    Raine trapped Australia star Marnus Labuschagne lbw for 17 and followed up dismissing Billy Root the same way for one.

    Meanwhile, a hostile spell from England hopeful Brydon Carse saw Sam Northeast, on eight, fending a short ball to short-leg just after Kiran Carlson nearly played on.

    Carlson and Chris Cooke dug in, between stoppages for bad light, to give the home side a fair chance of saving the game with the likelihood of the weather playing a further part.
