    Compton b Harmer 46 (Kent 162-1 v Essex 451-5 dec)

    Ben ComptonImage source, Rex Features

    A breakthrough for Essex!

Simon Harmer is the man to do it, although he has a bit of luck on his side as he removes Ben Compton.

Compton has allowed Zak Crawley to flow at the other end but when he tries to block out Harmer's ball, the shot bounces under his bat, creeps onto the stumps and nudges off one of the bails.

A success for Harmer, who won't have enjoyed the onslaught from Crawley.

  8. Old rivals and new friendspublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 546-8

Jimmy Anderson gets off the mark with a single off Peter Siddle. The pair then exchange a word in the middle at the end of the over.

It's a lot more friendly than many of their exchanges in Ashes series gone by.

Now it's Anderson against England team-mate Jack Leach!

He tries and fails to pull off a reverse sweep. But there is nothing wrong with the next, sending it through the covers for four to take the lead over 100!

And he pulls off a conventional paddle sweep to pick up a couple more.

    Robinson c Lyth b Edwards 1

Ollie Robinson is stuck in the crease and plays an ugly swing and a miss outside off.

    Got him this time!

Robinson is back and squared up as he edges Edwards wide to Lyth at first slip.

A fine catch, leaning to the right and taking the ball just above the turf. Sussex are 126-9.

  10. On again-off again-on againpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Glamorgan 104-5 v Durham 471-9 dec

They are back out in the middle again in Cardiff.

Let's hope this burst of action will last longer than one over.

Kiran Carlson clips Paul Coughlin away for three runs and brings up Glamorgan's 100. A pleasant dive by Chris Cooke brings him two and he ends the over with a single to retain the strike.

"When the tea interval is is anyone's guess, really," says BBC Radio Wales Sport's Nick Webb.

    Kent 141-0 v Essex 451-5 dec

    Zak CrawleyImage source, Rex

Simon Harmer drops a touch short, Zak Crawley is onto it quickly and he pulls it to the fence for four.

This century has almost felt inevitable from very early on in this innings.

Essex allowed Zak Crawley to get going and from then on, he has dominated the bowling.

That is his 19th four to go with one six and it has only taken him 96 balls - he really is a fine batter to watch in full flow.

Remarkably, it's his first ton for Kent since one in the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020.

Somerset have done a good job of picking up wickets to keep the score in check.
