Well, in this day and age, that is almost unheard of . . . a day's County Championship action all wrapped up by just after six o'clock.

It took a reduced programme of five matches - and bad weather at four of our grounds - to achieve it.

And it will now no doubt mean a few extended sessions in the days to come, to make up some lost overs.

But please do make sure you're back with us at about 10:30 tomorrow morning.

Ten To The Top with Ooh Gary Davies on Radio 2? Or county cricket?

Come on, it's no contest, surely?

    Division Two:

  3. Stumps at Grace Roadpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 241-5 v Glamorgan

This match has swung back and forth more than some of the deliveries under the lights in the afternoon session.

Leicestershire began strongly, Glamorgan pegged them back with a couple of quick wickets from Timm van der Gugten, Lewis Hill (53) and Colin Ackermann (45) wrestled back control, TVDG collected another couple to stem the flow, and then Reham Ahmed (38*) and Peter Handscomb (31*) may have edged the hosts slightly ahead again at the close.

Set up nicely for the next few days, weather permitting.

  4. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 410-8 v Derbys

And that's the close. What a day at the Riverside.

Durham won the toss and Alex Lees set the tone with a run-a-ball 45.

The hosts were in trouble at 126-4 but that was as good as the day got for Derbyshire.

A stand of 106 in 18 overs between Ollie Robinson and Graham Clark got Durham ticking again.

Robinson went on to make 114, his first century for Durham and first since 2021.

Derbyshire again thought they had a sniff at 296-7 but Durham came again with Brydon Carse and Paul Coughlin, who shared 100 in 20 overs.

Carse walks off 77 not out and will hope to try and steer his side to maximum batting points in the morning.

  5. Bad light stops play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 410-8 v Derbys

A second very sweet on-drive from Matty Potts for four.

This time off Luis Reece that runs towards the health club.

    Four overs until the close.

But the umpires are taking them off for bad light.

  6. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 241-5 v Glamorgan

I think it's rain and not the light, either way if they get back out there again tonight I'd be flabbergasted. It's gone 6pm.

  7. Postpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 240-5 v Glamorgan

Poor Michael Neser, he's had a funny old day. He's bowled one of the balls of the season so far to out-fox Mulder - the in-swinger really was out of this world, if you'll permit me to continue the X-Files theme!

He has also struggled to stop the flow of runs, 73 coming from his 19 overs, and he just ended up on the deck with the effort of trying to oust Peter Handscomb, only to see his lbw appeal rejected.

  8. Postpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 404-8 v Derbys

Six overs to go now at Chester-le-Street.

Having been belted for over 400 in the day, can Derbyshire at least take these final two wickets before the close?

  9. 400 for Durhampublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    400-8 v Derbys

First ball to the new man Matty Potts is too full and straight and gets driven wide of mid-on for four to raise the 400.

    Eight overs left tonight.

  10. 50 runs

partnershippublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 218-5 v Glamorgan

That's the 50 partnership between Peter Handscomb and Rehan Ahmed, who has breezed along to 27 from 43 balls. Timm van der Gugten has 4-40 with the ball.

A few spots of rain are falling as the aformentioned doughnut hole of dryness is dissipating rapidly over the East Midlands.

  11. wicket

    Durham 396-8 v Derbys

Ah, the partnership is over and there is palpable relief for Derbyshire.

Paul Coughlin goes to force Ben Aitchinson off the back foot and edges to Wayne Madsen, the solitary catcher standing at second or third slip.

    A great knock.

  12. 100 runs

100 partnershippublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 396-7 v Derbys

There have been two killer partnerships today for Durham.

The first between Ollie Robinson and Graham Clark and now this between Brydon Carse and Paul Coughlin, now worth 100 in only 20 overs.

A fourth batting point looms for Durham and this pair are running Derbyshire ragged.

  13. 50 runs

for Paul Coughlinpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 393-7 v Derbys

Paul Coughlin flicks Zak Chappell just wide enough of long leg for two and that brings him fifty.

68 balls, eight fours, a little luck but we all get it sometimes.

  14. Tristan Stubbs now not joining Durhampublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Bad news for Durham coming out of South Africa.

Tristan Stubbs, Durham's big overseas signing for this year's T20, is now no longer available.

He is to play for South Africa's A team instead.

So the search is on to find a replacement.

  15. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 386-7 v Derbys

Brydon Carse tries to go high and leg side again but skews Ben Aitchinson away towards deep square leg.

Luis Reece runs in, dives, gets there but can't cling on.

Great effort but Carse survives and is onto 67.

Paul Coughlin then swings outside off and gets a thick outside edge that flies over slip for four more.

  16. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 143-8 (51 overs) v Surrey

As suspected, that is now it for the day in Birmingham.

Surrey will resume at 11 in the morning looking to take the final two Warwickshire wickets quickly - and allow Dom Sibley a return to his former stage.

  17. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 379-7 v Derbys

I'm afraid Zak Chappell has been a bit all over the place today.

Tall and blessed with pace, he can be a handful but not when he loses control.

He goes too full and straight and Paul Coughlin whips him through midwicket.

Then next ball he's too wide and gets whacked over cover.

And when he does get one right the delivery after, Coughlin is able to open the face and steer an off-stump ball to third man for a third consecutive boundary.

  18. Back underway at Grace Roadpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 211-5 v Glamorgan

There's obviously something very special about Leicester. There is a massive ring doughnut of rain sat over England and the glorious hole in the middle is above Grace Road.

Whether we get all 16.3 overs in, who knows, the light isn't great and there are clouds everywhere, let's just enjoy what we have!

Andrew Salter, the Glamorgan spinner, finishes his interrupted over. Peter Handscomb (18) and Rehan Ahmed (26) are in the middle.

  19. Postpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 363-7 v Derbys

And they'll get there pretty quickly with strokes like this.

Brydon Carse plants a foot down the pitch and plants Ben Aitchinson over long-on for six.

The field spread wide and Derbyshire really feeling the pain of this eighth wicket stand that has taken the day away from them.

  20. 350 up for Durhampublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 351-7 v Derbys

Brydon Carse presses Zak Chappell down the ground for three and Durham have another batting point.

Still plenty of time to get the maximum haul but only the tail to come.
