  1. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 123-2 v Glamorgan

That'll be lunch. You have to say that's the hosts' session, especially seeing as how they were put in. They started brightly and then recovered well after losing a couple of quick wickets.

Colin Ackermann is on 33 and Lewis Hill has 35 and, were the weather not a factor, might be looking to take this 71-run partnership a lot further this afternoon.

  2. Postpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 66-4

Unsuccesful celebrappeal from Ryan Higgins who beats Sam Billings, pushing forward in defence. Was there a noise? Bat on pad perhaps. The Kent skipper remains there on 12.

  3. wicket

WICKET Bedingham c Madsen b Chappell 4published at 12:52 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 89-3 v Derbys

Another one for Derbyshire and the visitors have perhaps levelled up this session now.

Full length from Zak Chappell and he draws David Bedingham into a big drive and he edges to second slip for another catch for Wayne Madsen.

  4. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 61-4

I've put the mockers on Ethan Bamber there, his line abandons him for a couple of minutes and he drifts a couple towards Sam Billings' leg stump. 11 off the over for the visitors who will be desperate to reach lunch without any further damage.

  5. wicket

WICKET - Hain lbw Lawes 10published at 12:46 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 47-4 v Surrey

Big wicket for Surrey! Sam Hain goes!!!

Terrific ball from Tom Lawes to get the in-form Bears run machine.

Hain's two previous innings this season were 119 and 165 not out.

This time he has gone for just 10, trapped in front.

Ed Barnard is the new man in to join Dan Mousley.

  6. wicket

WICKET Borthwick c Madsen b Chappell 9published at 12:43 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 79-2 v Derbys

Derbyshire have a second before lunch.

Zak Chappell squares up Scott Borthwick and he nicks to second slip.

    Comfortable catch for Wayne Madsen.

  7. 100 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 100-2 v Glamorgan

Andrew Salter is into the attack for the visitors but Lewis Hill takes him to the rope to move to 25 and take his side into three figures.

This partnership is already at 48 with Colin Ackermann on 21.

  8. 50 runs

up for Kentpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 50-4

Ben Compton clips one off his hip to bring up the 50 on what has been an uncomfortable 97 minutes for the visitors at Lord's.

Compton has 29 from 73, his teammates have 19 from 61 combined. What a signing he's been for Kent over the past year and a bit.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Cox b Bamber 0 (Middlesex v Kent 48-4)

Oh dear. Jordan Cox shoulders arms to Ethan Bamber. Big mistake. Bamber has been electric all morning and gets his line perfect to jag one back to send Cox's off-stump cartwheeling. The hosts are well on top.

Skipper Sam Billings enters the fray. Big job on for him. Bamber beats the edge straight away.

Kent are being Bamberboozled at Lord's. He has 2-6 from six overs.

  10. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 41-3 (22 overs) v Surrey

It's not a warm morning in Birmingham - and there is very little respite on the field, where Warwickshire are still being given the cold shoulder by relentless Surrey.

But Edgbaston museum Phil Britt is currently in the BBC commentary box - and he has pointed out that the radiators are all on in the museum - and he is inviting all and sundry to come in and have a warm at lunchtime.

It's worth a visit in its own right anyway. But it's clearly warmer in there than out in the field, or even in the BBC comm box.

  11. Postpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 71-1 v Derbys

The scoring rate has dropped out significantly since the loss of Alex Lees but Durham still go very nicely.

Scott Borthwick - in his 199th first-class game - has joined Michael Jones.

Derbyshire have some control back but only one wicket having lost the toss.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leaning c Robson b Higgins 1 (Middlesex v Kent 47-3)

Another good catch in the slips. Just the third ball of Ryan Higgins' opening over finds the edge of Jack Leaning's bat and draws a good low catch from Sam Robson at second slip.

Jordan Cox is the latest to join Ben Compton. Kent need him to stick around for a while you'd think.

  13. Postpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 83-2 v Glamorgan

Glamorgan skipper David Lloyd has given himself four overs to give this Leicestershire duo something else to think about, but they seem only to be thinking about cashing in.

He's gone for 26 so far and has offered up several half-volleys which have been cracked towards a fence at long-off bearing the name of his namesake leisure company.

  14. Lees out after speedy startpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 68-1 v Derbyshire

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Alex Lees looked set to mark his 150th game in first-class cricket with at least a half century. But he was bowled by Ben Aitchison when on 45. The ball, which straightened on him late, took out two stumps.

He and Michael Jones had added 63 runs by the time the wicket came at the start of the 15th over. Things have slowed a bit since then.

It's chilly in Durham, with a south-easterly breeze and we have grey skies. But there are plenty here to see the game opef.

Hopefully the sun will burn through the murk soon and warm things up a touch.

  15. Testing morning for Warwickshirepublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 35-3 (17 overs)

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

Warwickshire's strong start to the season with the bat was always likely to be tested by Surrey's formidable attack and that has been accentuated by the champions putting the Bears in on an overcast, dull morning.

Kemar Roach and Dan Worrall bowled excellent opening spells during which they saw off Rob Yates, Will Rhodes and Alex Davies.

That's brought the in-form Sam Hain to the crease. The Big Bash finalist has two centuries in two innings so far this season, and has started with effective defence scoring 5 from his first 20 balls.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Bell-Drummond c Eskinazi b Bamber 6 (Middlesex v Kent 44-2)

What a catch at first slip by the skipper.

Ethan Bamber has been on the money for all of his four overs and the final ball draws a flash from Daniel Bell-Drummond offering a sharp chance to Stephen Eskinazi, high up just above his right shoulder.

Great catch and a second wicket for the hosts, ending a fairly uncomfortable 28-ball stint.

Jack Leaning joins Ben Compton, unbeaten on 27.

  17. 'Plenty of work ahead'published at 12:11 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 68-2 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan captain David Lloyd, on his 100th first-class appearance, made it a hat-trick of winning the toss and inserting the opposition on a cool and cloudy day.

Sol Budinger made his usual aggressive start for the Foxes with a quick-fire 26 before having his off-stump uprooted, driving at Timm van der Gugten. Rishi Patel, ultra-defensive early on, looked to be getting into his stride before he edged a van der Gugten delivery to keeper Chris Cooke on 19.

But with Leicestershire in decent batting form and with a strong batting line-up, there is still plenty of work ahead for the visitors, who field specialist spinner Andrew Salter for the first time this season.

  18. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Bristolpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Glos v Sussex 47-1

There's a nasty band of weather heading up from the south today and it's reached Bristol first.

Look out in Birmingham and Leicester for later.

It may sweep across to interrupt things at Lord's too.

  19. Postpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 43-1

Another gutteral cry at Lord's where Tom Helm raps Ben Compton's pads.

Did it pitch outside leg to the left-hander? The umpire thinks so. Not everyone is so sure. Helm's deep in thought. One for the Tolkien fans, there!

  20. wicket

WICKET Lees b Aitchison 45published at 12:01 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 63-1 v Derbys

Big relief for Derbyshire as Alex Lees' charge is ended.

Ben Aitchinson brings one back slightly from a full length and a flat-footed Lees plays all round it to lose his middle and leg stumps.
