  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

Patel c Cooke b van der Gugten 19 (Leicestershire 52-2)

Timm van der Gugten strikes again. Injudicious shot from Rishi Patel who feathers an edge to Chris Cooke for a routine catch with the gloves.

Colin Ackermann strides in to try to get things back on track. Lewis Hill has one from 12 balls at the other end.

  2. Postpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 34-1

Big shout from Ethan Bamber as he crashes the ball into Daniel Bell-Drummond's pads. I think the umpire and I are in agreement that it hit him outside the line thanks to a big stride forwards by the Kent man.

Still, good to get the lungs working in the opening hour though, I suppose.

  3. 50 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 51-1 v Glamorgan

... in the 14th over. Rishi Patel's drive squirms through Sam Northeast, still nursing a broken little finger, to move to 19. The run-rate has appreciably dropped since Sol Budinger's departure.

  4. Postpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Glos v Sussex 38-1

Sussex moving well now after the early loss of Tom Haines.

Ali Orr has twice whipped Tom Price over the leg side, first for six, then four.

He's also angled two boundaries to third man off Ajeet Singh Dale.

  5. wicket

    WICKET - Davies c Foakes b Roach 17published at 11:45 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 23-3 v Surrey

And another one goes. Horrible top edge off Alex Davies.

Not the ideal shot in the circumstances - but that's the way he plays.

A second wicket for Kemar Roach.

And Dan Mousley comes in to join Bears star man Sam Hain.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

Budinger b van der Gugten 26 (Leicestershire 43-1 v Glamorgan)

Fun while it lasted. Sol Budinger's bright start is ended in emphatic style by the third ball delivered by Timm van der Gugten, who has taken over from Michael Neser.

VDG rearranges Budinger's timbers with the Leicestershire opener trying to show off the maker's name.

Lewis Hill joins Rishi Patel in the middle.

  7. 50 runs

up for Durhampublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 51-0 v Derbys

The home side have rattled along in the opening 40 minutes and bring the fifty up in just the 10th over.

Alex Lees adds a fifth boundary with a square drive to a length delivery that offered a hint of width.

Full confidence in this wicket it seems.

  8. wicket

    WICKET - Rhodes c Pope b Worrall 6published at 11:41 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 23-2 v Surrey

    Second Bears wicket.

Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes also goes caught at second slip off Dan Worrall.

New man in is in-form Sam Hain - but the Bears are on the back foot here.

  9. Postpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 43-0 v Glamorgan

Glamorgan coach Matt Maynard has reshuffled his attack for this game and is desperate to tighten up the number of runs his side are allowing.

Leicestershire are 43-0 from 10 overs. 28 of those have come from Michael Neser's five overs. Not an ideal start for someone trying to prove a point to the Australian selectors.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Crawley b Murtagh 11 (Middlesex v Kent 29-1)

Murtagh gets his revenge. The wily Middlesex veteran gets one to nip back through the gate up the slope and Zak Crawley has to go.

A couple of sumptuous early boundaries but Crawley is unable to follow-up his 170 from Kent's game against Essex last weekend.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is the new man.

  11. Postpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 29-0

Ben Compton breathes another sigh of relief, another thick edge, this time off Tom Helm, drops a couple of inches short of third slip before skidding all the way to the rope. He's onto an uncharacteristically breezy 18.

Tim Murtagh is dispatched to the long-off rops by Zak Crawley to begin the next over.

  12. Postpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Durham 31-0 v Derbys

Bright start for Durham and Alex Lees, who's reeled off four early boundaries.

A thumping straight drive, a firm back-foot punch through cover, a nudge off his hip through square leg and a guide wide of point.

All rather positive and suggesting there's not too much in it for the bowlers so far.

  13. Postpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 28-0 v Glamorgan

Dare I say Budball? Sol Budinger is showing some serious intent, moving to 21 at better than a run a ball with his third four.

Rishi Patel then carves one away to the deep point boundary, the ball teasing the sprinting Andrew Salter before arriving at the rope, for his first boundary.

28 off the first seven overs, 11 of them coming from that last over from Michael Neser.

  14. Tough going for Bearspublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

Warwickshire 8-1 (six overs) v Surrey

Six overs gone, just eight runs scored.

One wicket gone already, lots of oohs, aaahs, phews and cors too. Even the odd "What a Beauty".

Tough going out there for the Bears.

  15. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 13-0

Tom Helm bangs one in off a length to Ben Compton and the eyes of half a dozen fast bowlers scattered around the field and on the Kent balcony light up as the ball spits up at the opener before being claimed above his head by keeper John Simpson.

A good over from Helm, though Zak Crawley produces a trademark cover drive off Tim Murtagh to begin the next over.

  16. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Leicestershire 10-0 v Glamorgan

Sol Budinger gives himself a little shot of adrenaline as he goes aerial to drive Michael Neser past the diving Andrew Salter at mid-on to find the rope.

A swashbuckling start from the Leicestershire opener at a murky Grace Road, taking seven off that over.

  17. wicket

WICKET Haines c Hammond b de Lange 3published at 11:10 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Glos v Sussex 9-1

An early one for the Glosters.

Tom Haines goes to cut Marchant de Lange but picks out Miles Hammond at slip.

The big South African strikes in just his second over.

  18. wicket

    WICKET - Yates c Steel b Roach 0published at 11:09 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 0-1 v Surrey

Rob Yates goes for an eight-ball duck, well caught low down at second slip by Cameron Steel.

Good ball from Kemar Roach. It brings to an end Yates’ run of hundreds in successive Championship home matches, having got one in the final game of last summer and then also in the first game of this season.

A great start for reigning Surrey county champions.

Bears skipper Will Rhodes is the new man in.

  19. Roach starts with a maidenpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Warwickshire 0-0 v Surrey

A lively first over for Warwickshire opener Rob Yates to negotiate against West Indies quickie Kemar Roach, who starts with a maiden.

Dan Worrall to bowl the second over to Alex Davies, who immediately survives a big LBW shout.

  20. Postpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 4-0

Kent opener Ben Compton gets off the mark in the opening over with a thick edge off Tim Murtagh which squirts past the slips and down to flop over the rope at deep backward point.
