    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 248 & 41-4 (9.4 overs)

Sussex could not get Miles Hammond out in the first innings. But they have second time round.

After finishing on 87 not out earlier, this time he has edged behind for 21.

It is a third wicket for Sean Hunt.

Maybe only the weather can save Gloucestershire now.

  2. Patel targeting career-best score in final sessionpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 216-2 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 158 runs)

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

We’re into the closing stages at Leicester with the only issue being whether Rishi Patel can get past his career-best of 125 set a few weeks ago, as the Foxes opener resumed after tea on 113.

The labouring Glamorgan attack claimed just one wicket in the afternoon session, with David Lloyd bowling rival captain Lewis Hill for 82 off the inside edge.

But Patel’s exciting innings, dominating a stand 203 with Hill, had already assured the draw with no demons in the pitch.

The match will be remembered for Chris Cooke and Michael Neser's record eighth-wicket stand for the county, following Cooke's involvement in a county sixth-wicket record stand with Sam Northeast at the ground in 2022.

As well as Patel's effort, England's Rehan Ahmed played the other most entertaining knock of the match in a reminder of his huge potential.

  3. wicket

WICKET - Harris lbw b Hunt 5published at 15:56 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 248 & 16-3

Sussex take their third wicket. from the first ball of the sixth over and Gloucestershire, following on, are in trouble.

Marcus Harris is pinned by Sean Hunt.

Captain Graeme van Buuren comes in on a King Pair - and, although he gets off the mark second ball, it is only with a frantic single that so nearly brought a run-out.

38 overs left in the day after this one. With the weather improving, Gloucestershire may have got a real job on to save this game now.

  4. Tea at Leicesterpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 211-2 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 153 runs)

Well Leicestershire didn't quite survive the session without losing a wicket, with David Lloyd dismissing Lewis Hill in the penultimate over before tea.

Before that it had all been plain sailing with Hill making it to 82 and Rishi Patel completing a fine century before moving on to 113.

Glamorgan's innings ended with them leading by 58 but they are now 153 behind ahead of the game's final session.

  5. wicket

    WICKET - Bracey c Carter b Hunt 0published at 15:41 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 248 & 5-2

Hang on. What is happening here?

England‘s James Bracey has gone now too, for a fifth-ball duck.

Sean Hunt has him well caught behind by Oli Carter off the last ball of the second over.

First-innings half-centurion Miles Hammond comes in for the second time today to join Marcus Harris.

Sussex are fired up here. And the weather is also warming up too. It is definitely brightening in Bristol.

  6. wicket

    Leicestershire 407 & 207-2 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 149 runs)

    We have a wicket!

One captain does for the other as David Lloyd finally makes the breakthrough to remove Lewis Hill who played well for 82.

That breaks up a partnership Rishi Patel which was worth more than 200.

There were 47 overs of toil for Glamorgan between wickets!

up for Leicestershirepublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 205-1 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 147 runs)

Lewis Hill moves to 80 with a boundary which also takes Leicestershire over 200 in their second innings.

Still no luck for bowlers David Lloyd and Andrew Salter - it's not much fun for the Glamorgan bowlers at present!

Rishi Patel is on 112 not out as he looks to beat his best score of the season which is 125.

  8. wicket

WICKET - Dent lbw McAndrew 0published at 15:32 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Well. What do you know!!!

Nathan McAndrew strikes second ball with a full-length ball.

Chris Dent had to wait an age before umpire Billy Taylor raised his finger.

But it is unquestionably a bad start for the hosts - as James Bracey walks to the middle.

Nevil Road, BristolImage source, Rex Features

Now then. Here is some unexpectedly good news from Bristol.

After a three-hour bad light/rain delay, it seems we are going to get some cricket again at Nevil Road.

An early tea is being taken in readiness for a 3.30 start, with 44 overs for Sussex to send down.

It took the visiting attack just over an hour this morning to prise out Gloucestershire last man Ajeet Singh-Dale, so you might not rate too highly their chances of now taking all 10 in two and a half hours.

But at least it is the prospect of some sort of action. And it would only take one or two early wickets to get the Nevil Road nerves jangling.

  12. 50 runs

for Lewis Hillpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 170-1 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 112 runs)

Shortly after Rishi Patel makes it to 100, his batting partner and skipper Lewis Hill reaches a half-century.

Marnus Labuschagne is getting a bit of treatment from the two batters and Leicestershire look very comfortable.

The hosts were 4-1 at one point earlier but for Glamorgan that wicket of Sol Budinger seems an awfully long time ago.

  13. 100 runs

for Rishi Patelpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 162-1 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 104 runs)

He's batted very impressively and the 17th four of Rishi Patel's innings brings up his century from 137 balls.

That makes him the fifth-highest run-scorer in Division Two this year (Lewis Hill isn't far behind in sixth).

He's batting at an average of 69.5 and will now be looking to get his highest score of the season by bettering the 125 he got earlier in the campaign.

In the process he has also passed 1,000 first-class runs.

    Milestones everywhere you look!

  15. Postpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 130-1 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by 72 runs)

It's an all-Australian bowling attack for Glamorgan now with Marnus Labuschagne joining Michael Neser.

Lewis Hill has been quietly acquiring runs with Rishi Patel the main aggressor in terms of run-scoring but the captain is now approaching a half-century on 39.

Patel is now just 12 runs short of a century.

After Sol Budinger fell in the third over, Glamorgan have not been able to make any further breakthroughs.

England‘s Ollie Robinson had match figures of 1-81 against Yorkshire at Hove in April

Not much sign yet of any restart in Bristol, where we understand that the bad light break prior to the Glloucestershire second innings has since metamorphed into a rain break.

It is getting a taller order with every lost minute for Sussex, But one positive outlook is that their bowling attack will be significantly strengthened at New Road, Worcester this Thursday.

Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace has told BBC Radio Sussex in a lunchtime interview that England fast bowler Ollie Robinson will play in their next three County Championship games, as he warms up for this summer‘s Ashes series.

The means away trips to Worcester and Leicester, followed by a home game against Glamorgan.

Bearing in mind that Sussex already have one warmer-upper booked to play in these three upcoming matches, former Australia Test captain Steve Smith, that should make Farbrace‘s fearsome foes.

Robinson has made one Championship appearance for Sussex so far this summer, when he sent down 23 overs and took 1-81 against Yorkshire in the weather-hit game which ended up costing Sussex four points for a slow over rate.
