Before the start of yesterday's action Glamorgan's Eddie Byrom said it was going to be a fighting day for his team to recover as they started 243 runs behind, with five wickets in hand.

Well fight they did, losing only three wickets and a club record eighth-wicket stand of 211 between Chris Cooke and Michael Neser put Glamorgan into an unlikely first-innings lead.

Cooke, who will resume today on 121 not out, admits he enjoys playing at Leicester, after his record-breaking stand with Sam Northeast there nine months ago.

“You do rock up at grounds and get good vibes from some," he said, "Whereas others you arrive thinking ‘how I am going to score runs?’

“The first aim was to get past that follow-on mark. I wasn’t sure if we were going to get to that point because it was real hard going. So when we did get past it was a bit of a weight lifted and we could play a bit more expansively from there. It was a good fight, a good scrap.".

Leicestershire have to regather themselves after a disappointing day in which they failed to seize the advantage having been in a promising position after hitting over 400 in their first innings thanks to Peter Handscomb (95) and Rehan Ahmed (90).

Chris Wright, who took 3-82 from 33 overs, credited Glamorgan for their resurgence but said his side would be looking to take the final two wickets early and get on with building a score to defend.

“We’ve still got to get two wickets. So, assuming they go out and bat, we’ve obviously got to get those last two out. And they’ve got a good bowling attack, so we will have to establish a score.

"If I was a betting man I’d say it is going to take a lot for either side to get a positive result, but you never know," added Wright.

  4. Who can win on final day?published at 10:52 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

Gloucestershire v Sussex, Leicestershire v Glamorgan

If the weather holds, there maybe more of a chance of a result at Bristol, where Sussex skipper Cheteshwar Pujara hit a fine 151 to help his side declare on 455-5 before a run-out and Nathan McAndrew’s 5-53 triggered a Gloucestershire collapse.

The hosts must resume still trailing by 257 runs - and looking merely to bat out a draw once they have followed on.

The Sussex aim is to take 11 wickets to force a win.

At Leicester, Chris Cooke and Michael Neser shared a new record Glamorgan eighth-wicket stand of 211 to reach 446-8 - 39 ahead.

If a few more runs could be added and some cheap Leicestershire wickets taken, it could force sufficient home panic to offer Glammy hope.

  5. The Weather Outlookpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

The general BBC Weather forecast for the UK today says: "Heavy showers or spells of rain pushing eastwards today and tonight. Turning drier in behind."

On a more localised basis, it is currently sunny in Leicester, but apparently not in Bristol - although the players are warming up as usual at Nevil Road and they are stil expected to start on time.

And then there were two , , ,

All we have left today are the couple of remaining Division Two fixtures after yesterday‘s three three-day finishes at Lord‘s, Edgbaston and Chester-le-Street.

The weather might have a part to play, certainly in Bristol, where the forecast does not in fact look that promising.

But, although in both Div Two games the respective first innings are not yet over, there is still a chance of a result in each.
