And now we are off for a quick break to refuel cricket stat energy levels in the concrete bunker, hopefully to resume when the players do . . .

  2. Prospects now bleak in Bristolpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

Gloucestershire will be pleased with their morning‘s work after Miles Hammond and Ajeet Dale added a further 50 runs.

Dale was eventually LBW to Tom Haines, leaving Hammond 87 not out. But Sussex didn’t help themselves with that dropped catch by Sean Hunt, a routine chance in the second over of the day when Hammond was on 55.

Asked to follow on, a combination of bad light and rain have prevented Gloucestershire starting their second innings and prospects are now looking bleak for a resumption.

  3. Lunch at Leicesterpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 65-1 v Glamorgan 465 (Leicestershire lead by seven runs)

That's lunch in Leicester and the hosts have established a narrow lead thanks to Rishi Patel's unbeaten 42 which started slowly before he began hitting boundaries at will.

Earlier on, Glamorgan added 19 to their overnight total with Chris Cooke (132) having a swing before having his stumps clattered by Chris Wright who bowled well and picked up 5-89.

Glamorgan's Michael Neser then removed Leicestershire's Sol Budinger early on but that was the only home wicket to fall as Patel and Lewis Hill (21*) plotted a safe course to lunch.

    Leicestershire 407 & 58-1 v Glamorgan 465

Leicestershire knocked off a first innings deficit of 58 with just one wicket down as the match at Grace Road moved towards a probable draw, barring even more remarkable events than Glamorgan’s final-day charge to victory last year.

Glamorgan resumed at 446-8 but soon lost Andrew Salter, bowled by Chris Wright for 13, leaving Chris Cooke hitting out at everything and soon becoming Wright's fifth victim, bowled for 132.

Leicestershire were always likely to face an opening onslaught from the Glamorgan seamers and Sol Budinger soon edged Neser to slip for one.

As Glamorgan tried to flog some life out of the pitch with short-pitched bowling, Rishi Patel smashed Timm van der Gugten over square-leg into the Milligan Road, while both he and Lewis Hill survived vociferous appeals for caught behind.

  5. Lunch at Nevil Roadpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 248 and 0-0

As expected, they are now taking lunch in Bristol.

After being invited to follow on, Gloucestershire openers Chris Dent and Marcus Harris were yet to take guard in their second innings when Mark Newell and Billy Taylor took the players off after consulting their light meters almost 20 minutes ago.

An early lunch was immediately mooted - and that is now exactly what they have done.

When they do hopefully get started again after lunch, the hosts will start with a 207-run first-innings deficit against Sussex.

  6. 50 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 50-1 v Glamorgan 465

A couple more fours from Rishi Patel reduces the deficit to single figures.

He's hit five fours and one six so far this morning, and Lewis Hill at the other end is on 16.

They are now trailing by eight.

    A weather delay at Bristol.

Gloucestershire openers Chris Dent and Marcus Harris did emerge from the pavilion to start the seond innings after being asked to follow on by Sussex, 207 runs behind.

But umpires Mark Newell and Billy Taylor immediately took a light reading - and back off they trooped again.

The prospect of taking an early lunch has been mooted. We will endeavour to keep you informed if that is, in fact, the case.

  8. Postpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 27-1 v Glamorgan 465

A big shout goes up from Glamorgan who think they have Lewis Hill...but umpire Neil Bainton remains unmoved.

They must have heard something because they were convinced Hill got a touch - it looks like it was probably a glance off the thigh pad.

The scoring has slowed a little with a four from Hill in that over the only thing stopping it being three consecutive maidens.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE BOWLED OUT FOR 248published at 12:05 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 248 (91.2 overs)

Gloucestershire are bowled out - and will follow on at Bristol.

After a 61-run last-wicket stand with Miles Hammond (87), Ajeet Singh-Dale is trapped leg before wicket by Tom Haines for 10.

Frustratingly, the hosts fell just two runs short of a batting bonus point.

But they have taken up an extra hour - and that might just prove crucial to Sussex hopes of forcing a result. Maybe that task would have been a bit easier if Sean Hunt had not put down Hammond at mid-off in the second over of the day.

  10. 6 runs

Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 22-1 v Glamorgan 465

Rishi Patel has had a fairly quiet start but out of nowhere he sends a huge six out of the ground!

Stewards are dispatched to try to locate the missing ball!

Patel then sends Timm van der Gugten for four with the next ball - he's got his eye in now.

That quick burst of boundaries sees the hosts now trail by 36.

  11. wicket

WICKET Budinger c Lloyd b Neser 1published at 11:54 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 4-1 v Glamorgan 465

    Early wicket!

Easy as you like as Michael Neser finds the edge of Sol Budinger's bat and it's a straightforward catch at first slip for skipper David Lloyd.

New man Lewis Hill isn't hanging around though as he slaps Neser for two fours in three balls!

  12. 50 runs

Half-century partnership for Gloucestershirepublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 239-9 (89 overs)

Miles Hammond and last man Ajeet Singh-Dale have now taken this irritating (for Sussex) last-wicket partnership past the fifty mark.

They now trail Sussex by only 216 runs.

67 more to make it past that follow-on avoidance figure.

  13. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 & 2-0 v Glamorgan 465

With no time to waste we're already back under way in Leicester.

The hosts started 58 runs behind Glamorgan and it's Rishi Patel and Sol Budinger kicking things off.

They need to work on eroding the deficit and then seeing what sort of score they can build with the time we have left.

  14. Hammond‘s half hourpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 226-9 (85 overs)

Half an hour gone - and still no Sussex breakthrough yet.

Not even with the new ball.

Just one chance. A dropped catch by Sean Hunt at mid-off when Miles Hammond almost holed out in only the second over of the day from James Coles.

Gloucestershire have added 28 runs in seven overs - and the deficit is now down to 229.

Just 80 more and Sussex will have to bat again.

GLAMORGAN ALL OUT FOR 465published at 11:30 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 465

    Chris CookeImage source, Getty Images

Chris Cooke's fine innings comes to an end as he is bowled by Chris Wright - who does get a well-deserved 'five-fer'.

Cooke began taking on everything this morning as Glamorgan looked to move the game on and he finishes on a magnificent 132.

That innings cannot be underestimated as to its importance to Glamorgan. It got them back in the game, alongside the contribution of Michael Neser, and they have the rest of the day now to try to force a win.

  16. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 464-9 (Glamorgan lead by 57)

A missed chance for Leicestershire to finish off Glamorgan - but in fairness it was a tough one.

Chris Cooke is trying a few more expansive shots now - with varying degrees of success - and Tom Scriven does well to get across when the ball goes skywards but can't keep hold of the ball and gets it all wrong in the end as the chance goes down.

  17. wicket

WICKET Salter b Wright 13published at 11:19 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 460-9

Chris Wright has been the Leicestershire danger man and he's struck again!

It's a curious dismissal which even seemed to fool the commentary team as the ball nipped back in and struck Andrew Salter in the midriff before dropping onto the stumps and removing the bails.

So a little delayed reaction but Salter's gone and that brings last man Jamie McIlroy into the fold.

Wright has 4-89 now and will be eyeing a five-wicket haul to wrap the innings up.

  18. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 455-8

First boundary of the day in Leicester as Andrew Salter sends Tom Scriven for four.

Chris Cooke has also added a few to his overnight total and is now on 124.

    Glamorgan's lead is 48.

  19. 50 runs

Miles Hammond reaches his half-centurypublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 207-9 (79 overs)

Miles Hammond lofts spinner Jack Carson for another four over long on to reach his half-century.

Thrn a single to keep the strike for the first over from James Coles at the other end.

New ball due after this over.

  20. Ever so slightly delayed start at Bristolpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 202-9 (78.4 overs)

Only two minutes late. But they are off and running now.

Maybe the clock in the umpires room had stopped!

It is grey, overcast and the floodies are on but Miles Hammond quickly gets the scoreboard moving with a four to the cover boundary.
