And that's where we'll finish things up for today.

Thankfully the forecast is looking better for tomorrow, although we've still had plenty to talk about today!

We'll be back from 10:50 BST. Hope you can join us.

  2. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Durham 42-2 v Yorkshire 254

A terribly late finish in the north east, where they have avoided the bad weather.

Apart from their over rate, Durham have enjoyed a good day.

After winning the toss there were some concerns as Yorkshire reached 132-2 but Dawid Malan, after making 36, and Jonny Bairstow, 27, fell in the space of seven balls.

Yorkshire then slid from 181-4 to 218-9 before some late hitting rescued a batting point.

There were some very poor dismissals among those wickets.

Durham lost Michael Jones and Alex Lees in reply but will sleep the happier.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Davies c Lawrence b Porter 5 (Warwickshire 17-2 v Essex 126)

Remarkable! Alex Davies has just one ball left in the day to survive, but can only edge Jamie Porter to Dan Lawrence in the slips.

It's a lovely delivery, angled in before seaming away, and Davies is drawn forwards into the shot when he would have been desperate to leave it alone.

Will Rhodes cannot believe it at the other end, and Essex have a slight spring in their step as they walk off.

A couple more wickets in the morning, and they are right back in this.

  4. Stumps at Cardiffpublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Glamorgan 177-6 v Worcs 109

A day dominated by the bowlers as 16 wickets fell at Sophia Gardens.

But it'll be Glamorgan the happier as they look set for a handy first-innings lead.

  5. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Kent 95 v Hampshire 89

Joe Weatherley and Fletcha Middleton make it to stumps unbeaten, having put on an excellent 89 for the first wicket, reducing the first-innings deficit to just six runs.

It's been a dream day for the visitors, with their impressive bowling attack proving far too good for Kent today.

James Fuller was the main destroyer with 5-21, Kyle Abbott took three, and Keith Barker and Mohammad Abbas claimed one each.

Kent have been unable to replicate those bowling efforts, as Hampshire's opening pair ticked along at over four an over this evening, putting them firmly in command.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Lees lbw b Hill 15 (Durham 38-2 v Yorkshire 254)

A second wicket for Yorkshire just before the close.

George Hill is full from round the wicket to the left-handed Alex Lees who plants the front foot and plays all round it. Dead.

  7. Postpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Durham 31-1 v Yorkshire 254

Still, outrageously, three overs remaining at Chester-le-Street.

Scott Borthwick and Alex Lees trying to get Durham to the close without further damage having lost Michael Jones.

  8. Close of play at The Ovalpublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Surrey 21-0 v Middlesex 209

That is indeed the close at The Oval.

And what a remarkable day it's been.

Surrey won the toss and began very poorly with the ball.

Middlesex raced away with Sam Robson, who made 76, and Pieter Malan, 66, to 166-1.

But that pair fell in the space of two overs and then suffered a truly extraordinary collapse of 9-43 as Surrey came alive with the ball.

Dan Worrall with 5-48 and Gus Atkinson 3-18.

No alarms for Surrey in five overs of reply and they will hope to build in the morning.

  9. Bad light stops play at The Ovalpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Surrey 21-0 v Middlesex 209

The light has closed in at The Oval and that could well be it for the day.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Yates lbw b Porter 0 (Warwickshire 0-1 v Essex 126)

    First ball of the reply!

Jamie Porter is straight into his work, and Rob Yates misses a straight one.

It's absolutely plumb - Essex couldn't have wished for a better start with the ball.

  11. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Kent 95 v Hants 76-0

Nothing is going right for Kent today.

Jordan Cox pushes a healthy outside edge from Joe Weatherley round the post, and Hampshire take two runs to rub salt into the wound.

Hampshire could well take the lead this evening...

  12. Postpublished at 18:31 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Surrey 12-0 v Middlesex 209

Confident start here from Rory Burns.

He's walked down a couple times to Tim Murtagh to negate his very medium pace, once to flick handsomely through midwicket.

And now he flicks a full ball from Toby Roland-Jones smartly through square leg for the innings' first boundary.

Eight overs still scheduled but the light getting a little gloomy.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Jones c Bairstow b Thompson 2 (Durham 12-1 v Yorkshire 254)

Yorkshire with a great start with the ball.

Jordan Thompson angles one into Michael Jones, straightens it a fraction and finds a edge through to Jonny Bairstow with Jones playing a fraction across it.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Snater b Hannon-Dalby 9 (Warwickshire v Essex 126)

Essex are rolled for 126 at Edgbaston, having been 76-2 earlier in the afternoon.

Shane Snater is the last man to fall, clean bowled by Oliver Hannon-Dalby, who finishes with 4-21.

The pitch is doing a bit, but Warwickshire will fancy a big first innings lead here.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Cook lbw b Ali 7 (Warwickshire v Essex 124-9)

Essex continue to struggle at Edgbaston.

Sam Cook is given out, I'm assuming lbw, attempting to swing Hasan Ali away to leg.

The ball was then caught by Rob Yates at slip, but I don't think there was any bat involved there.

  16. Yorkshire will feel disappointedpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Durham 7-0 v Yorkshire 254

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham have given themselves 13 overs to face at the end of day one after bowling Yorkshire out for 254. The final wicket came three deliveries after the new ball was introduced at the end of the 80th over.

Yorkshire will no doubt feel disappointed with their total, given their decision to bat. Nobody made a half century with Shan Masood the top scorer on 44. But how he wasn't out lbw to debutant Bas DeLeede on 15 is a mystery. And too many players gave their wickets away cheaply against some good bowling.

Ben Raine took the final wicket as Mickey Edwards threw the bat at the ball moments after Yorkshire gained their first batting point. He was caught behind on 13. Matthew Fisher was not out on 27.

Matthew Potts was the pick of the bowlers with 4-49. He now has 20 in the season, while Ben Raine took 3-59.

  17. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Kent 95 v Hants 42-0

Hmapshire have started their first innings superbly, making Kent's batting efforts earlier look all the more abject.

Michael Hogan has bowled nicely, but runs have flowed readily from the other end off Wes Agar and Joey Evison.

Fletcha Middleton has 18; Joe Weatherley has 16.

  18. Durham begin their replypublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Durham 2-0 v Yorkshire 254

Durham have enjoyed a decent day with the ball.

But for my money, they should be starting their reply with penalty runs against them.

Because their over rate has been outrageously slow.

10 minutes after the advertised close, and no delays today there are still 11 overs remaining.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Westley c Davies b Hannon-Dalby 47 (Warwickshire v Essex 112-8)

Tom Westley falls to the live texter's curse!

Looking to up the rate, he can only chip one to Alex Davies at mid-on, who takes an excellent diving catch.

  20. wicket

MIDDLESEX ALL OUTpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 11 May 2023

    Hollman c Foakes b Atkinson 5 (Surrey v Middlesex 209)

Surrey were messing around a little but they've now wrapped it up.

Gus Atkinson with a bumper and Luke Hollman swats at it and gets a feather edge behind.

    What a comeback from Surrey.

Middlesex were 166-1 with Sam Robson and Pieter Malan going superbly.

But they fell within two overs of each other and and no-one else has managed double figures.

Dan Worrall finished with 5-48 but Gus Atkinson was the pick with 3-18.

13 overs left for Surrey to face if the light holds and rain continues to stay away.
