  1. wicket

WICKET van der Gugten c Coles b Robinson 5published at 12:56 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 79-8

This is an exhibition of seam bowling from Ollie Robinson!

He has got himself into a lovely rhythm as he hits the right area once again just on and around off-stump.

Timm van der Gugten is squared up a touch, has to play and it flies comfortably into the hands of James Coles at third slip.

Robinson has 4-18 and eyes another five-wicket haul.

  2. wicket

WICKET Handscomb lbw Waite 0published at 12:56 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs v Leics 80-4

Two in one over for Matthew Waite as Peter Handscomb departs for a five-ball zero.

A little bit of away swing there for the Worcestershire seamer and Handscomb paid the penalty for playing slightly across the line.

  3. Northants recover from 'shaky start'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hants 88-3 v Northants

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Hampshire got away to a very fast start and a drier pitch at the Ageas bowl has done little this morning.

That’s in contrast to the trend recently in Championship matches in West End where batting has been a little more tricky in the first session.

The Northants bowlers, though, have hit back after a shaky first half hour.

Perhaps there might be some encouragement later for the two leg- spinners playing in the game, Northants’ Alex Russell and Hampshire's Mason Crane.

  4. Latest from Division Twopublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Gloucestershire debutant Zaman Akhter is learning how tough it can be at first-class level. David Bedingham flicks the paceman away for four and he has 0-34 from five overs so far. Durham are 109-2 in the 26th over.

Leicestershire have just lost their third wicket of the morning at New Road, with Lewis Hill lbw to Matthew Waite for 14. The visitors are 80-3 and Australian Peter Handscomb is the new man at the crease.

  5. Postpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 76-2

Ryan Higgins strays too close to leg and George Bartlett flicks it straight down to the legside fence.

This Somerset pair will want to make sure they can enjoy a sumptuous Lord's feast while both not out.

  6. wicket

WICKET Gubbins lbw b White 13published at 12:45 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 88-3 v Northamptonshire

Northants have hauled themselves back into this one superbly.

Jack White pins Nick Gubbins infront with a sharp delivery and the tide continues to turn. The runs have dried up in the last half-dozen overs and the visitors have another wicket too. Another in the 15 minutes before lunch and it's overwhelmingly their session, you'd have to say.

    Ben Brown joins James Vince.

  7. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 72-1

Stuart Broad returns for a second spell and starts with a maiden to Tom Westley. Steve Mullaney has now brought himself on, the fifth seamer tried by Notts this morning. A single each for Westley and Alastair Cook from his opening over.

  8. wicket

WICKET Neser lbw b Robinson 2published at 12:40 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 69-7

Make that three for the morning and 18 for the season!

Michael Neser has to go as Ollie Robinson traps him absolutely bang in front. He barely needed to appeal for that decision.

    Robinson is in the zone.

  9. Robinson ticking along very nicelypublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 69-6

Ollie Robinson is now into his eighth over of the morning as new bat Michael Neser gets off the mark with a couple.

He has 2-12 to make it 17 wickets for his Championship season in his fifth innings, averaging just over 12.

Robinson took 14 wickets in his last game against Worcestershire a fortnight ago and he looks certain to join up with England in excellent spirits.

It shows that county cricket still performs a very important job.

  10. wicket

WICKET Lees c Gohar b Shaw 41published at 12:34 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 89-2

Not so very long ago, Alex Lees was opening for England, but a poor shot has cost him his wicket at Bristol.

He tried to drive a ball from Josh Shaw but didn't fully commit to it and Zafar Gohar took the catch at point.

Lees has made two fifties this season, without converting - he's going to have to wait for a third.

  11. Pears attack need more consistencypublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs v Leics 61-2

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Worcestershire captain Brett D’Oliveira will feel his side are only half-way to what they’d like in this final hour before lunch.

After sticking the Foxes in he’d have wanted a bit more consistency from his bowlers on a pitch with a greeny tinge.

Sol Budinger slapped six boundaries in his stand-and-deliver knock before he edged a Joe Leach peach to slip.

In-form Rishi Patel looked great again before a rash pull sent a steepling top edge into Gareth Roderick’s gloves off the swift Adam Finch, whose extra height and pace is helping him at last find the zing in the pitch D’Oliveira was after this morning - but he'll want a couple more before lunch.

  12. wicket

WICKET Billings c Foakes b Lawes 0published at 12:32 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 80-4

Sam Billings' tough start to the Championship season continues.

The Kent skipper slashes at a wide one from Tom Lawes, nicking behind where Ben Foakes dons his Superman cape to fly to his right to claim the catch, pretty much at second slip. All four Surrey seamers now have a wicket.

Jordan Cox is the latest to join Jack Leaning in the middle.

  13. wicket

WICKET Carlson b Robinson 8published at 12:29 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 65-6

    Ollie RobinsonImage source, Getty Images

    Bowled him!!

Ollie Robinson is brought back into the Sussex attack and needs only three balls to get his second wicket.

A fatal error from stand-in Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson as he decides to leave one from Robinson.

It does not move away but rather moves in a touch and crashes into the stumps.

  14. 50 runs

partnershippublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 62-2

Tom Abell guides Ethan Bamber away for a couple to bring up a half-century stand between him and George Bartlett.

Their stand is now worth 52 after coming together at 10-2.

Abell has 29, four more than junior partner George Bartlett.

  15. wicket

WICKET Middleton b Sales 40published at 12:27 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 86-2 v Northamptonshire

The youngster has made his innings look easy but now he's given his wicket away too easily.

Fletcha Middleton fails to convert a good start again, he plays across the line, trying to work a full delivery from another youngster, James Sales, in his opening over, into the leg side off his ankles, but only succeeds in being yorked.

Steep learning curve at 21. He departs for 40, which matches his average eight matches into his career.

James Vince and Nick Gubbins both posted huge tons in the innings and 270-run win at Northampton last month. They are reunited in the middle now.

  16. wicket

WICKET Root b Haines 17published at 12:24 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 61-5

Don't leave the straight one Billy Root!

One ball after cracking his fourth four in quick time, he decides to leave one from Tom Haines that goes on to knock his poles as Haines comes round the wicket.

Root's counter attack comes to an abrupt end and Glamorgan are in the mire.

  17. Postpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 57-1

Obviously not a lot of pace in this patch because Alastair Cook has loads of time, when Dane Paterson drops short, to go back and pull it away through mid-wicket for four.

The former England skipper advances to 37 not out.

  18. Steady start for the leaders in Bristolpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 71-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham decided to bat on a warm morning in Bristol and reached the 50 mark inside 14 overs - but they were a man down by that point.

Michael Jones left a straight one from Ajeet Singh Dale and it hit off stump. It was certainly a poor decision by the batsman, who was on 13 at the time, and somewhat fortuitous from a Gloucestershire point of view - an observation one or two observers here are not happy with.

Gloucestershire are without skipper Graeme Van Buuren, Tom Price and Marchant De Lange. Zaman Akhter has made his county debut, while Josh Shaw has been given his first start too.

Akhter should have had Scott Borthwick on 20, but an edge was shelled at second slip by Chris Dent.

Borthwick has 28 and Alex Lees 29, having added 56 so far. It will be interesting to see how this one develops because Durham haven't won a Championship match in Bristol.

  19. wicket

WICKET Muyeye c Foakes b Atkinson 22published at 12:21 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 71-3

A bit of mustard on that one from Gus Atkinson and the extra bounce tempts Tawanda Muyeye into a prod forward which only succeeds in feathering an edge to the keeper Ben Foakes.

Muyeye showcased some beautiful strokes but has been undone by another of Surrey's battery of top-class bowlers.

    Sam Billings joins Jack Leaning.

  20. Postpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 71-2

Tom Lawes is into the attack at the Oval and has produced what I can only describe as a banana ball.

Ben Foakes expects this one to swing away from Jack Leaning but it swings in, narrowly missing off stump but then continues swinging further and further onto the leg side, evading Foakes' full-stretch dive to his left.

Incredible. More movement than toe-punting one of those cheap plastic footballs you can buy at the beach.

13 off the Lawes over in the end as Leaning ends up with a couple of streaky fours.
