  1. wicket

WICKET Bedingham c Akhter b Taylor 40published at 14:14 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 149-4

Following a stand of 63, Scott Borthwick and David Bedingham are gone in successive overs.

Bedingham clips Matt Taylor to mid-wicket but doesn't get over the top of it and Zaman Akhter takes the catch.

That will make Akhter feel a whole lot better after taking some punishment with the ball during the morning.

    Hampshire 123-3 v Northamptonshire

Jordan Buckingham bangs in a bouncer at James Vince that is so high it's called a wide. Ricardo Vasconcelos, taking the gloves for this match, looks thoroughly unimpressed.

His next ball is whipped away through square leg for four by Vince.

The umpire then has a word with Buckingham and skipper Sam Whiteman - perhaps the bowler is straying too far down the track in his follow-through? Now it's Buckingham who looks thoroughly unimpressed.

Vince onto 20 with Ben Brown on 10 at the other end.

  3. 50 runs

for George Bartlettpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 120-2

George Bartlett brings up his 50 with one of the very few false shots he has played.

Toby Roland-Jones squares him as Bartlett tries to work it to leg and it flies between wicketkeeper and first slip down to the boundary.

Bartlett has batted for exactly 100 balls for his first half-century of the summer and eighth of his career.

His partnership with Tom Abell is now up to 110.

    Surrey v Kent 107-6

Dan Worrall thinks he's trapped Grant Stewart all ends up, but the umpire doesn't agree. It's hard to see what the problem is, pitched in line, straightened up, no bat involved... maybe a touch high?

Worrall stalks off unimpressed. Stewart turns away to get his pulse back in check.

Surrey are turning the screw at the Oval.

  5. wicket

WICKET Cooke c Smith b Karvelas 20published at 14:10 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 113-9

And now Steve Smith gets into the action!

Chris Cooke tries to force one off the back foot from Aristides Karvelas and Smith grabs it at second slips.

Not as spectacular as the catch at Grace Road last week, but a decent one nonetheless.

  6. wicket

WICKET Borthwick c Hammond b Dale 53published at 14:08 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 149-3

The text commentator's curse strikes again.

Scott Borthwick flicks a ball off his hip to Miles Hammond at leg-gully and cannot believe what he has just done.

The Durham batter taps his bat on the side of his helmet two or three times before starting the long walk.

Ajeet Singh Dale now has 2-33 for Gloucestershire and Ollie Robinson is the new batter.

  7. Robinson back into attackpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 108-8

This brief flurry from James Harris and Chris Cooke after lunch sees Ollie Robinson thrown the ball.

He returns for his third spell with figures so far of 4-23, chasing that five-for.

  8. wicket

WICKET Ahmed c Pollock b Waite 7published at 14:05 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs v Leics 98-6

Quite some spell of bowling this by Matthew Waite.

Rehan Ahmed is unable to deal with the right-armer's away swing and Ed Pollock takes a low catch at first slip.

Waite now has 3-10 from seven overs, five of them maidens.

  9. 50 runs

for Tom Abellpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 114-2

A lovely way to bring up the half-century for the Somerset captain.

Ethan Bamber drops short and Tom Abell sends it to the fence for his seventh boundary of the innings off his 108th ball

It's his first 50 of the season and 33rd of his career. The previous time he reached 50 this season, he went on to make a career-best 151 v Lancashire at Taunton last month.

  10. wicket

WICKET Cox b Clark 18published at 14:02 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 105-6

Ben Foakes and Jordan ClarkImage source, Rex Features

Jordan Clark that is a beauty. He gets one to nip back a mile to beat the edge and smash into Jordan Cox's off stump.

A huge wicket for Surrey who have a second bonus point. Cox had creamed Clark through midwicket earlier in the over and had looked in better nick that he has of late.

Clark has 3-23 and is getting the ball to boomerang around like there's no tomorrow.

Grant Stewart comes in to join Joey Evison. Best of luck, Grant.

  11. 100 runs

for Glamorganpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 105-8

James Harris sends one to a vacant third off Fynn Hudson-Prentice for four to bring up his team's 100.

It is fair to say they have fairly limped to three figures.

And then Harris gets four more with a nice shot off his back foot through the offside.

The pressure has been lessened with Ollie Robinson not in the attack at the moment.

  12. 50 runs

for Alastair Cookpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 108-1

    Alastair CookImage source, Rex

Alastair Cook reaches 50 for only the second time in 10 innings this season as he pushes Brett Hutton through mid-wicket and picks up three runs.

A boundary follows later in the other, deflected down to third man via a thick edge. No chance for the fielder at second slip as it ran past him along the ground.

Cook is now 55 not out and Tom Westley has 32. Notts need a wicket.

  13. Postpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 105-2

That is a quality cricket shot!

Ethan Bamber drops only a fraction short and George Bartlett is up on to his toes to cream it to the point boundary.

He moves ahead of Tom Abell in the race to reach 50. He needs one and his skipper, five.

  14. 100 runs

up for Kentpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 100-5

Jordan Cox brings up three figures with a single off Jordan Clark to move to 13.

How his side could do with something special from this young duo. They have only earned two batting bonus points from their opening five matches, you'd get good odds on them adding to that today.

  15. 50 runs

for Scott Borthwickpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 143-2

Scott Borthwick reaches 50 for the third time this season with a boundary, punched through the covers off the back foot, at the start of a new Ajeet Singh Dale over.

It's the ninth boundary of the left-hander's 73-ball innings and he and David Bedingham have also posted a half-century stand for the third Durham wicket.

Borthwick will now be hoping to equal or surpass his unbeaten 108 against Worcestershire in mid-April.

  16. Postpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 99-5

Glimpse of a chance of a caught and bowled for Dan Worrall as Joey Evison tries to strike him straight down the pitch.

The timing is off and the ball drops a few inches short of the bowler who contorts his frame down to get a good hand on the ball. Doesn't hold on, mind. A sharp chance, it would have been, and not sure he'd have taken it. Incredibly flexible though, these seamers. Impressive.

for Somersetpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 100-2

George Bartlett moves across his stumps and flicks a Toby Roland-Jones delivery down to fine leg for four to bring up his team's 100.

Somerset will fancy a good score from this position.

  19. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex v Glamorgan 88-8

No Ollie Robinson first up after lunch for Sussex.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Tom Haines share the ball straight up after the interval.

Wicketkeeper Chris Cooke somehow has to guide the Glamorgan tail towards some kind of total.

  20. Latest from Division Twopublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Back to back fours for Durham's David Bedingham off Matt Taylor, both driven through the off side, as they progress to 135-2 at Bristol. Bedingham is 35 not out.

Worcestershire's Matthew Waite starts the afternoon with a maiden to Colin Ackermann, but Leicestershire lose their fifth wicket in the next over as Wiaan Mulder is caught at backward point off Joe Leach for a duck and are now 83-5.
