  1. wicket

WICKET Gay c Middleton b Abbas 9published at 12:42 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 10-3

Oh boy. Emilio Gay skies a pull off a short ball from Mohammad Abbas and it's down the throat of Fletcha Middleton at deep square leg.

Disarray. Ricardo Vasconcelos joins Rob Keogh to try and negotiate the 20-odd minutes until lunch.

  2. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 125-5

Old-fashioned accumulation going on now at New Road, with Lewis Hill and Peter Handscomb content to knock it around and extend Leicestershire's lead.

Adam Finch's latest over is a maiden, but the Foxes lead by 215.

  3. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 9-2

So close to a third. Liam Dawson got two hands to the ball but he's put Emilio Gay down at slip after he nicked off Mohammad Abbas.

Tricky spell for the visitors to endure. Well, that's an understatement. They were skittled for 72 just last weekend don't forget.

  4. 50 runs

partnership for Nottspublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 89-1 v Essex 298

Only the brave - or foolhardy - try to reverse sweep Simon Harmer.

Matthew Montgomery makes good contact, though, and four runs brings up a half-century partnership with Ben Slater.

He advances to 25 not out while Ben Slater remains becalmed on 50.

  5. Postpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Gloucs 34-1 v Durham 445

There is a short mid-on in place for Marcus Harris - but Ben Raine is wide of off stump and he steers it away for four.

It's the Australian's final game for Gloucestershire before international duty calls and he'd love a big score to sign off with.

  6. wicket

WICKET Whiteman lbw b Barker 0published at 12:36 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 8-2

The Northants skipper is not happy but he's got to go.

Sam Whiteman is trapped infront pushing forward and Keith Barker has a wicket after opening with 17 straight dot balls.

I think Whiteman thinks he got an inside edge, but either way, his side are well and truly up against it once again. They'll be desperate to reach lunch without further damage.

Rob Keogh survives a strangled appeal to finish Barker's third maiden over.

  7. Postpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 9-0 v Somerset 404

Tricky period for Middlesex openers Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson as they try to get through to lunch unscathed.

So far the pair have negotiated two overs apiece from Matt Henry and Craig Overton and taken nine runs off the deficit. A long way to go as they reply to Somerset's 404.

  8. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

It's not the County Championship, but we just have to let you see this.

Presumably, it wasn't Phileas Fogg in the basket.

for Dom Sibleypublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 134-3 v Kent 278

The returning hero's first half-century back at the Oval and his second of the season.

He clips Grant Stewart off his pads for three to bring up his 37th first-class 50 from 147 deliveries. Six fours in that time too. Doing his own thing.

  10. dropped catch

Let-off for Slaterpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 81-1 v Essex 298

Another one goes begging at Trent Bridge and this time it's Alastair Cook, at first slip, who is the guilty party. Penny for bowler Doug Bracewell's thoughts.

Ben Slater survives on 50 not out, and Matthew Montgomery has 17.

  11. Postpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 122-5

Leicestershire are now turning the screw at New Road.

Lewis Hill comes down the pitch and swats Ben Gibbon away for six and then repeats the trick, this time adding four to his score.

Adam Finch bowls the next over and is punched away off the back foot for four by Peter Handscomb, before Hill adds a streaky boundary via the inside edge.

    The lead is 212.

  12. wicket

WICKET Smith lbw b Harris 89published at 12:24 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 274-5

James Harris (Glamorgan)Image source, Getty Images

    No hundred for Steve Smith!

It was looking on the cards, especially after he flayed James Harris over midwicket for a huge six just now.

But Harris gets the last laugh with a ball that seams away and pins Smith in front. A much-needed breakthrough for Glamorgan, who already trail by 151 as Oli Carter emerges to join James Coles.

  13. wicket

WICKET Smith c Leaning b Bhuiyan 8published at 12:22 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 125-3 v Kent 278

That six was as good as it got for Jamie Smith.

Smith pushes at a higher, wider delivery and edges Arafat Bhuiyan to Jack Leaning who takes a low catch at second slip to give the debutant his second scalp. Great celebrations there from the SACA graduate.

    Ben Foakes joins Dom Sibley.

  14. Postpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 268-4

A personal landmark for Sussex's James Coles, who now has his highest first-class score.

The 19-year-old has looked in good form, picking up another boundary with a sweet cover drive off Timm van der Gugten to move on to 78.

Steve Smith is on 83 at the other end and Glamorgan will be scratching their heads as they strive to break this partnership.

  15. wicket

WICKET Hassan Azad run out (Crane) 0published at 12:18 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 0-1

Oh my. A direct hit from Mason Crane and Hassan Azad is run out without facing a ball.

Emilio Gay dabs Keith Barker towards cover and calls for one that probably wasn't ever on.

Some superb fielding from Crane makes the breathrough. Northamptonshire's batters clearly feeling the pressure already.

Sam Whiteman is in at three. Ricardo Vasconcelos is keeping in this match, remember.

  16. Postpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

Keith Barker takes the new ball for the hosts.

Emilio Gay and Hassan Azad open up.

  17. 50 runs

for Ben Slaterpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 76-1 v Essex 298

Ben Slater is tucked up by Doug Bracewell but the ball flies off the edge for a single and brings up his 50 from 66 balls.

That will come as a great relief as the left-hander's best score previously this season was 43 - and he made 2, 8 and 5 in his last three innings.

  18. Postpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 125-2 v Kent 278

Jamie Smith has made a pretty patient start but he's had enough after 11 balls and picks up a fuller Arafat Bhuiyan delivery off his legs for a six over deep square.

Exquisite timing. No thought of running. Easy game when you can do that.

The deficit is 153. They might just avoid the follow-on, you know...

  19. Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 75-1 v Essex 298

Ben Slater is looking in tidy nick at Trent Bridge.

The left-hander strokes Jamie Porter through the covers for his seventh four - he also has a six - and three runs later in the over leaves him one run short of 50.

  20. wicket

WICKET Gregory c Simpson b Higgins 42published at 12:11 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Somerset 404 v Middlesex

Lewis Gregory misses out on his half-century - but it's job done as far as Somerset are concerned, scrambling to a fourth batting bonus point.

Ryan Higgins finishes with 4-74 after picking up the wicket of Gregory, caught behind attempting an untidy hook.

Gregory, along with Peter Siddle, Matt Henry and Craig Overton, will be getting his bowling shoes on now.
