  1. wicket

WICKET Carter c Neser b van der Gugten 28published at 14:14 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 331-6

A bit of all-Australian slip juggling brings about the downfall of Oli Carter and earns a first wicket of the match for Timm van der Gugten.

Marnus Labuschagne knocks the ball up for Michael Neser to complete the catch and Glamorgan have broken this partnership of 57.

James Coles is still there on 102 and Fynn Hudson-Prentice has joined him at the crease.

  2. Postpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 115-1 v Essex 298

A new Sam Cook over and Matthew Montgomery cracks the opening delivery through the covers for four.

He is now into the 40s, with new partner Joe Clarke on two.

  3. wicket

WICKET Taylor c Middleton b Abbas 0published at 14:11 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 376 v Northamptonshire 27-7

The procession continues. Another fine catch, this time from Fletcha Middleton, as Tom Taylor edges Mohammad Abbas to fourth slip.

  4. wicket

WICKET Foakes c Leaning b Bhuiyan 17published at 14:04 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 179-5 v Kent 278

Arafat Bhuiyan is collecting scalps today. Three on debut and it's Ben Foakes he gets to edge behind now.

Foakes flashes a drive at another shorter, wider delivery and feathers a far more routine chance to Jack Leaning at second slip.

Arafat has 3-43 and Jordan Clark joins WIll Jacks who has 23, with four fours and a six. Hates running, that chap.

  5. Postpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 376 v Northamptonshire 22-6

4-5 off eight overs for Keith Barker. Evergreen doesn't do it justice. Fine wine, perhaps?

204 needed to avoid the follow-on with four wickets in hand.

  6. wicket

WICKET Sales b Barker 0published at 14:01 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 376 v Northamptonshire 22-6

Oh dear. You feel for young James Sales. A rabbit in the headlights with a cricket bat there as he just opens the gate and ushers Keith Barker's delivery through onto middle and off.

He looked very short of confidence, and you can see why, given the context in which he's been asked to come in.

Tom Taylor is next in the middle.

  7. wicket

WICKET Slater c Rossington b Cook 57published at 14:00 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 108-2 v Essex 298

Adam Rossington was the guilty party when those two chances were put down off Shane Snater during the morning (see 1:57 entry), but partly redeems himself to send Ben Slater on his way.

That was a pretty easy chance for the Essex keeper and Slater is cross with himself as he begins the walk back to the dressing room.

He hit a six and seven fours in his first half-century of the season, adding 71 with Matthew Montgomery for the second wicket.

  8. Postpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 108-1 v Essex 298

Tidy maiden from Shane Snater to Matthew Montgomery.

In case you've forgotten, Snater had the Notts right-hander dropped on 0 and 4 during the morning session.

  9. wicket

WICKET Keogh c Weatherley b Barker 5published at 13:57 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 376 v Northamptonshire 22-5

Yikes. Rob Keogh's vigil comes to an end, edging to Joe Weatherley who takes a smart catch infront of his knees at third slip.

Three wickets for Keith Barker - the first time he's done that this season. He has 3-5 in his eighth over.

James Sales is next in the firing line, and has to dig out a fine yorker from wily old Barker first-off. Welcome to the madness.

  10. wicket

WICKET White lbw b Gregory 0published at 13:57 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 49-4 v Somerset 404

Robbie White has had to wait since last July for a Championship innings.

Sadly for the Middlesex batter, this one lasts just two deliveries as he departs for a duck, plumb leg before to Lewis Gregory.

Somerset are turning the screw here at Lord's...

  11. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 170-4 v Kent 278

Will Jacks opens the face to drive past deep backward point for four and then stays back in his crease to cart Joey Evison for six over deep midwicket.

Three balls later he fills in another number on the clockface with a drive through the covers for four.

Jacks started the over with none off seven balls, he finishes with 14 off 13.

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 309-5

What a moment for 19-year-old James Coles - his maiden first-class hundred and well deserved!

Coles gets to the landmark from 158 balls with a sweet cover drive for four off Jamie McIlroy, his 16th boundary so far.

  13. wicket

WICKET Holden lbw b Henry 17published at 13:51 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 48-3 v Somerset 404

It looks as though Matt Henry took exception to Max Holden dispatching him through the covers for two boundaries just now.

Henry brings one back at the left-hander, who is given out leg before not playing a shot. May have been a tad harsh on Holden, but the umpire's finger went up and Henry has his third wicket.

Robbie White joins Sam Robson in the middle - for the Middle, who desperately need a partnership.

  14. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 108-1 v Essex 298

A short hold-up at Trent Bridge as Essex's Sam Cook appears to have a problem with his right ankle mid-over. He tells the physio he's ok to carry on.

  15. wicket

WICKET Vasconcelos lbw b Barker 3published at 13:47 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 19-4

He's got to go, but... that might have been sneaking down leg side from Keith Barker, who now has two wickets.

Ricardo Vasconcelos played across the line, trying to clip it fine off his pads but didn't get bat on ball. He is well across the crease in fairness. The umpire had a better view than any of us.

Saif Zaib is the new batter, joing Rob Keogh.

  16. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 19-3

There are a few showers floating around early this afternoon, which Northants won't mind at all if it buys them a spell in the pavilion. The lights might be needed before too long.

  17. Postpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 28-2 v Somerset 404

We had to wait around 45 minutes to see whether Matt Henry could complete his hat-trick - and the answer was in the negative.

Henry's first delivery of the afternoon session whistles past Sam Robson's outside edge and he and Max Holden have plenty of work to do as Middlesex attempt to rebuild following that double blow just before lunch.

  18. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 104-1 v Essex 298

No hold-ups at Trent Bridge, where Sam Cook opens up for Essex after lunch.

Ben Slater tucks the seam bowler down to square leg for the first runs of the afternoon and moves to 55 not out.

  19. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 156-4 v Kent 278

Will Jacks strides out with Ben Foakes to start the afternoon session after that Dom Sibley dismissal signalled the arrival of lunch.

Foakes picks up where he left off with a cover drive for four off Michael Hogan.

    Worcestershire 83 v Leicestershire 173 & 148-5

    New RoadImage source, Rex

Bristol and Worcester are 60 odd miles apart but both have been hit by the wet stuff during the lunch interval.

The resumption will be delayed at New Road, where Leicestershire lead by 238 with five wickets standing.
