    Gloucs 110-2 v Durham 445

Marcus Harris reaches 50 from 118 balls with a reverse sweep for four off Ajaz Patel.

Two balls later, the Australian is gone, as he rocks back to cut and edges to keeper Ollie Robinson, who takes a good catch.

  2. Tea at Lord'spublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 163-7 v Somerset 404

Five wickets for Somerset in that afternoon session, with two apiece for Lewis Gregory and Jack Leach.

John Simpson has defied the bowling to reach 55 not out, with Toby Roland-Jones alongside him on 30. Still 92 needed for Middlesex to save the follow-on, however.

  3. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 481

Sussex have finally been bowled out on the stroke of tea, with Ollie Robinson the last man to go following an entertaining cameo.

Robinson hammered three fours in a row off Michael Neser before trying for a fourth and holing out to mid-on for 13 from 8 balls.

Jack Carson finishes on 19 not out and Glamorgan will begin their second innings 358 adrift.

  4. wicket

WICKET Hill b Waite 49published at 16:04 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83, v Leics 173 & 160-6

It had all become a bit of a crawl for Lewis Hill and now he has gone, one run short of a half century.

He was 44 not out when rain arrived during lunch, but added just five runs in 12 overs following the resumption.

Nevertheless, he added 71 with Peter Handscomb, who is 21 not out and has now been joined by Wiaan Mulder. The Leicestershire lead is exactly 250.

    Surrey 296-8 v Kent 278

    Deja vu at the Oval.

Barely 24 hours after Kent picked themselves off the canvas to provide some staunch tail end resistance, adding 160 for their final three wickets, their hosts are seeking to do likewise.

Surrey were 180-6 but will go and tuck into tea on 296-8, leading by 18.

Sean Abbott is on 63 not out from 72 balls.

    Middlesex 150-7 v Somerset 404

John Simpson (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

Excellent knock by John Simpson - a beacon in the gloom of this hapless Middlesex innings.

The left-hander punches Craig Overton to the short boundary to bring up a half-century from 92 balls, his second of the season.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Karvelas c & b Carlson 0published at 15:56 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 463-9

Suddenly Kiran Carlson's off-breaks have brought him figures of 2-4 - and the second is a routine return catch to dismiss Ari Karvelas for a duck.

Ollie Robinson comes out to join Jack Carson and, unless the last Sussex wicket goes down in the next couple of overs, the tea interval will be delayed.

  9. It's raining at Southamptonpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 56

They were off for bad light anyway, but the covers are on and the heavens have opened at the Ageas.

These clouds have been hovering around the south coast for a couple of hours and don't seem to be budging. Might be off for a while.

  10. Postpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 282-8 v Kent 278

Gus Atkinson produces two eye-catching cover drives for four in succession off Wes Agar to take Surrey into the lead.

This is a No10 flashing shots that wouldn't look out of place in a Marcus Trescothick textbook.

211-7 has become 282-8. They are following Kent's first-innings blueprint to a tee.

  11. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 208-3 v Essex 298

Another good session for Notts, with 106 added for the loss of Ben Slater and Joe Clarke, who both made half-centuries but couldn't convert.

Matthew Montgomery is still there with 73 not out from 162 balls and he and Lyndon James each add a single off Simon Harmer in the final over before the interval.

Sam Cook has 2-35 for Essex, but it was Matt Critchley who took the wicket of Joe Clarke in the session's penultimate over - one that will make their tea taste a lot better.

  12. Postpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Gloucs 87-1 v Durham 445

Not the square cut technique you'd have expected to see from Gordon Greenidge or Robin Smith.

Instead of moving his back foot towards the ball, Marcus Harris steps backwards and slaps a wide one from Matthew Potts away for four.

  13. wicket

    WICKET Hudson-Prentice c van der Gugten b Carlson 73published at 15:49 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Glamorgan 123 v Sussex 455-8

Fynn Hudson-Prentice has never made a first-class hundred and he's not going to break his duck today.

The Sussex all-rounder is caught at deep mid-off after a sizzling 73 from 64 balls and that's a wicket for Glamorgan's Kiran Carlson - his first in more than a year.

Ari Karvelas is in now and Sussex must surely be eyeing a teatime declaration, you'd think.

  14. Bad light stops play at Southamptonpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Hampshire 367 v Northamptonshire 56

Some respite for the visitors. Heavy cloud across the Solent region means play cannot resume after the early tea.

  15. wicket

WICKET Clarke c Porter b Critchley 57published at 15:44 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 205-3 v Essex 298

    Joe ClarkeImage source, Rex

A good opportunity for a really big score goes begging as Joe Clarke tries to hit Matt Critchley against the spin and lobs a catch to Jamie Porter at mid-off.

Essex will be pleased to see the back of him as his partnership with Matthew Montgomery ends on 97.

  16. Postpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 204-2 v Essex 298

Joe Clarke pushes Matt Critchley for one and the Notts total reaches 200. Simon Harmer is still wheeling away at the other end and Clarke rocks onto the back foot and forces the ball through the covers for four to reach 57 not out.

  17. wicket

WICKET Lawes c Compton b Agar 20published at 15:42 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 264-8 v Kent 278

Third ball with the new cherry and Wes Agar has produced an absolutely impossible delivery, Tom Lawes edges off the glove up near his chin to Ben Compton at first slip.

Breakthrough for Kent. That's Agar into double figures for wickets in his fourth and final appearance.

Gus Atkinson joins Sean Abbott who is ensconced on 55.

  18. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 82 v Leics 173 & 150-5

We have had six overs at New Road since play resumed, with just two runs added.

Whatever the game plan Lewis Hill and Peter Handscomb have in mind, it certainly doesn't involve rushing and Hill is still on 44 not out - his score when rain arrived during the lunch interval.

  19. Smith overshadowed by Colespublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Sussex 436-7 v Glamorgan 123

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Sussex batter James Coles made the most of a bumper crowd in to watch Australia star Steve Smith as he reached an impressive maiden century to help the home side to four batting points.

Coles was strong on anything off target on either side of the wicket, hitting 21 fours as he took his career-best score from 74 to 138 before being trapped leg-before by James Harris.

The experienced seamer had earlier got rid of Smith the same way for a near-faultless 89.

Sussex have turned the screw on a tiring Glamorgan attack with Fynn Hudson-Prentice helping himself to a cheerful 50 off 47 balls as the fielding started to look ragged as well.

A thousand schoolchildren enjoyed the first half of the day and the chance to watch Smith bat in the flesh - though there was an excited buzz for any sort of action at all.

  20. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 132-7 v Somerset 404

Toby Roland-Jones is doing his best to lead some kind of counter-attack for Middlesex - he's thumped Peter Siddle for two cleanly-struck fours while John Simpson digs in at the other end.

Roland-Jones is 11 not out, with Simpson on 45 - but they trail Somerset by a daunting 272.
