  1. wicket

WICKET Murtagh run out 0published at 16:58 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 175 v Somerset 404

    Crafty work by Peter Siddle!

The bowler carefully deflects John Simpson's drive back onto the stumps with Tim Murtagh having strayed from his ground and that's the end of the Middlesex innings.

Simpson is left on 57 not out and Somerset, leading by 229, have sent the home side in again. There are 24 overs remaining.

He was dropped on 0 and 4 and now Matthew Montgomery has a 194-ball century.

He reaches three figures with a false shot as he tries to cover drive Sam Cook and it flies to the rope on the leg-side via the inside edge.

It's his second hundred in first-class cricket.

  3. wicket

WICKET Worrall b Agar 6published at 16:56 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 362 v Kent 278

Wes Agar reassembles Dan Worrall's timbers to finish the onslaught, and the innings.

Gus Atkinson is stranded on 55 after a sparkling cameo.

Surrey have hit 38 sixes in the Championship this season already.

They lead by 84 and have 20+ overs to bowl at Kent tonight.

Surrey added 151 for their final three wickets, almost exactly 24 hours after Kent's 8, 9 and 10 added 160. Some game, this.

  5. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 358-9 v Kent 278

Loads of them. Gus Atkinson has all the shots, pass it on...

The No10 gets down on one knee to sweep Michael Hogan - who can bat too, remember - for six over deep square. The ball is in tatters.

The replacement receives similar treatment from its first outing, bended knee, this time over deep midwicket, almost to the back of the stand.

He brings up the third batting point with a slash at a wide one which flies over the long deep extra extra cover boundary for another maximum and he gets the final ball of the set away for a one-bounce four through cover.

    Atkinson has 55 from 44.

    24 off the over.

Blast starts this week, did you know?

  6. Five-wicket haul for Matt Henrypublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 175-9 v Somerset 404

Matt Henry (Somerset)Image source, Rex Features

    Make that a five-for!

Middlesex are nine down now as Matt Henry has Ethan Bamber caught behind for a single.

Tim Murtagh on his way to the crease - something that is rarely dull.

  7. wicket

WICKET Abbott c Cox b Agar 78published at 16:42 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 329-9 v Kent 278

Shock all round as Sean Abbott edges one that bounces from Wes Agar to keeper Jordan Cox and has to go.

This has been a brilliant innings, highlighted with some classy strokes mixed in with some welly too. For all the world it looked like he'd register just his second career century in 77 first-class matches.

But no. Still, he's hauled Surrey into a strong position, adding 65 for the ninth wicket with Gus Atkinson, who is joined by Dan Worrall to try to chuck a few extra onto the tally.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Roland-Jones c Lammonby b Henry 39published at 16:40 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 173-8 v Somerset 404

Matt Henry claimed a four-fer against Lancashire last week and he's now got four again today.

Toby Roland-Jones, who continued his attacking approach after tea, is caught at mid-off trying to steer Henry over the top.

That ends his stand of 54 with John Simpson and Middlesex still need 82 to avoid the follow-on.

  9. for Joe Leachpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 180

    Joe LeachImage source, Rex Features

Joe Leach completes his 16th five-for in first-class cricket as Rehan Ahmed is stumped for seven and Leicestershire's second innings comes to a rapid end.

Leach's final figures are 5-41 and he was well supported by Matthew Waite, who was the chief destroyer following the rain delay with 4-21.

The visitors were 160-5 and lost their last five wickets for 20 in seven overs - but a target of 271 is a tall order for Worcestershire, based on what has happened so far in this game.

  10. wicket

WICKET Hammond b Raine 21published at 16:39 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Gloucs 139-3 v Durham 445

Another one for Division Two leaders Durham and that is a big error of judgement by Miles Hammond.

He decides not to play a shot, but doesn't lift his bat out of harm's way and ball deflects off the face into his stumps.

    That will be tea.

  11. Postpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 179-9

No hat-trick for Matthew Waite as Rehan Ahmed survives the first ball of a new over. Leicestershire's lead is 269.

  12. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 242-3 v Essex 298

Simon Harmer is fractionally short and Lyndon James gives himself room before cutting down to third man for four. He is 18 not out and Matthew Montgomery has 89.

  13. wicket

WICKET Scriven c Haynes b Waite 0published at 16:30 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 174-9

    Matthew WaiteImage source, Getty Images

Make that four in this spell by Matthew Waite - and now three in the over. He's on a hat-trick after Wiaan Mulder (8) and Tom Scriven are both caught by Jack Haynes from successive deliveries.

Will he get the chance to complete it, though? That is the end of the over and we are down to Leicestershire's final pair.

  14. 300 runs

up for Surreypublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 307-8 v Kent 278

Sean Abbott is starting to put his foot down, taking 10 off three deliveries from Grant Stewart to move to 73 and secure his side's second batting bonus point.

    The lead swells to 29.

  15. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Surrey 296-8 v Kent 278

Arafat Bhuiyan takes the opening over after tea.

He is seeking to become the first player since 1946 to take five wickets while making their first-class debut in a Championship match for Kent.

Go on then, as you're asking... Edmund 'Eddie' Crush took the first of just two career fivefers against Glamorgan in his home town of Dover in 1946.

Mr Crush was Major Crush at the end of World War II and received the Military Cross.

He also ousted Don Bradman during a tour game in 1946... but even he didn't get Pope and Foakes on the same afternoon.

Crush reportedly didn't appeal when he ousted the Don at Canterbury, admittingthat like the thousands of fans he was too eager to watch him bat on.

    Ahhh cricket...

  16. wicket

    WICKET Handscomb c D'Oliveira b Waite 26published at 16:25 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 173-7

Leicestershire equal their first innings score - but Matthew Waite takes his second wicket of this post-rain session.

Peter Handscomb is the man to go, to be replaced by England's Rehan Ahmed. The lead is 263.

  17. Postpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 219-3 v Essex 298

Good use of the feet by Matthew Montgomery carries him to the pitch of the ball and he is able to stroke Simon Harmer for four past mid-off. The Notts right-hander is now 83 not out.

  18. Glamorgan face 'uphill battle'published at 16:17 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Sussex 481 v Glamorgan 123 - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Sussex have continued to plie on the runs at Hove as a tired Glamorgan attack have been dispatched to all parts of the County Ground

James Coles has led the way, the 19-year-old making 138, his maiden first-class century and an innings full of fine shots all round the wicket but particularly through mid-wicket.

Fynn Hudson Prentice weighed in with 73 off 64 balls including 10 fours and two sixes, and Ollie Robinson rubbed salt in the wounds by hitting Michael Neser for three consecutive boundaries before eventually falling to the Australian.

There are 32 overs still to be bowled today and with a pumped up Robinson looking to add to his four first-innings wickets Glamorgan face an uphill battle to save this game.

  19. 'Spirited' counter-attack by Middlesexpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Middlesex 159-7 v Somerset 404

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset may have taken five wickets between lunch and tea, but their bowlers have been going at four an over and they've been on the receiving end of a spirited counter-offensive from the ever-reliable John Simpson and his captain, Toby Roland-Jones.

The longer their partnership continues, the less likely it becomes that Somerset would enforce the follow-on, or even be in a position to do so. This pitch doesn't offer very much once the ball has lost its shine.

  20. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Notts 208-3 v Essex 298

The final session of day two is under way at Trent Bridge.

Shane Snater bowls to Matthew Montgomery, who he saw dropped twice off his bowling early in his innings.

    It's a maiden to start.
