    Notts 155 & 412-6 f/o v Warks 571-9d

Joe Clarke sweeps Danny Briggs to long leg for his 31st four and raises a maiden double-century!

What an effort this has been to repel Warwickshire under this mountain of scoreboard pressure.

But his 318-ball innings, also with a six, is leading Notts towards safety.

41 overs remain and now Notts just one run behind.

Bears doing everything they can to keep chipping away but it's been so tough on a dead wicket.

    Foakes c Quinn b Denly 124published at 15:26 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 437-4 (target 501)

The partnership is broken at 207.

Ben Foakes looks disconsolate as he heads to the clubhouse - he wanted to finish the job with Dom Sibley.

But he'd gotten a little bit too carefree, looking for a third six in the matter of a few minutes but only finding Matt Quinn, who takes the catch to give Kent the faintest glimmer of hope of a turnaround.

Milestones every minute at the moment at Canterbury.

The latest is the double-century partnership between Dom Sibley (121no) and Ben Foakes (120no).

The England pair have ripped the hearts out of Kent here.

for Surrey's Foakespublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 421-3 (target 501)

Wasn't wrong about Foakes opening up now.

Kent skipper Jack Leaning has brought himself into the attack - and he might not last long because Ben Foakes smashed him for a huge six.

Then a four a couple of balls later. And then another six to end the over - 20 runs off it!

Surrey only need 80 to win now - that will take just four overs at this rate.

  5. Target down to double figurespublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 402-3 (target 501)

Ben Foakes tucks away a single and the deficit is now down to double figures.

Almost a case of when not if now. Kent look beaten.

    Kent v Surrey 401-3 (target 501)

    Only 100 needed for Surrey.

Best that Ben Foakes tries to hog the strike now though. Not sure Dom Sibley will get it done in time unless they add an extra day.

  7. England choose Broad for first Ashes Testpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

England have preferred Stuart Broad over Mark Wood to join James Anderson and Ollie Robinson in their pace attack for the first Ashes Test.

    Notts 155 & 389-6 f/o v Warks 571-9d

The latest batter to man the barricades for Notts is Calvin Harrison.

He's been out there for 50 balls now for just 5.

Joe Clarke continues to be immovable at the other end and is closing in on a maiden double-ton. 190 to his name now.

Notts are still 27 behind and do need to eat up a big chunk of the remaining 46 overs.

Warwickshire still desperately hoping to find a way through this lower order. Just two wickets for them all day.

  9. Leics need 221 to winpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Gloucs 368 & 202 v Leics 350

Gloucestershire's Tom Price is the last man to go, but only after a really handy last-wicket stand of 26 with Zaman Akhter.

It means Leicestershire will need 221 in 47 overs - a tough ask.

Century for Foakespublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 393-3 (target 501)

Ben Foakes joins Dom Sibley in the century club.

His ton came up a bit quicker than his partner, from 198 balls.

Brilliant effort from Foakes after the disappointment of not being including in England's Ashes squad.

  11. Sibley beats his own record toopublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 390-3 (target 501)

Sibley has also passed the slowest first-class century on English soil in terms of time spent at the crease.

That record was previously 465 minutes - seven hours and 45 minutes - during a Test between England and West Indies at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester in 2020.

Any idea which England batter set that particular mark? Yes, Dom Sibley...

  12. Sibley breaks slowest recordspublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 390-3 (target 501)

Dom Sibley's 100 for Surrey is officially the slowest first-class century ever made in the County Championship - both in terms of balls batted and time spent at the crease.

He has taken 363 balls - comfortably passing the 331 deliveries Andrew Umeed used up to register a ton for Warwickshire against Lancashire in 2017.

And the 502 minutes Sibley has spent at the crease easily surpasses the 453 minutes Jason Gallian took to score a century for Lancashire against Derbyshire in 1994.

    It's like anti-Bazball.

Those of you enjoying the Ashes starting on Friday probably won't see much of the kind of old-school approach of Dom Sibley.

But it's been exactly what the doctor ordered for Surrey, his patient century leading them to within sight of what looked an unlikely victory when they were set 501 to win.

He guides one through a gap for four - only his 12th boundary in a stay at the crease that has now passed eight hours.

We're going to bamboozle you with more stats about it now.

  19. Division Two updatepublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

Worcestershire opener Jake Libby likes batting at Hove.

After making 215 there at the end of last season, he scored 198 in the first innings and now has 69. The Pears are 122-1 and still in with a chance of chasing that huge target of 386.

It's suddenly game on at Bristol! Gloucestershire have collapsed from 144-3 to 176-9 - that's a lead of 194 and perfectly gettable by Leicestershire in a session and a half.

Glamorgan's lower order are still doing a good job at Durham. Chris Cooke is unbeaten on 72 and has now found a bit of support in Timm van der Gugten. They're 304-7 and leading by 64.

  20. Race to the century markpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 371-3 (target 501)

With Kent toiling with the ball, the two main questions at Canterbury are: When will Surrey reach 501? And who will reach their century first - Dom Sibley or Ben Foakes?

Foakes has faced exactly half as many balls as Sibley - 176 to 352 - but has amassed 87 runs, with Sibley on 96. Who's gonna win the ton race?
