    Russ: It was nice of Kent to give me some hope on Monday, but this chase looks inevitable. Surrey are (upsettingly) a class above most of the Div 1. The only joy I'm getting from this is Sibley's old school run rate, proper batting that is.

    Josh: As much as Bazball is really fun, I do miss a player like Dom Sibley. He is currently 82 not out off 300 balls for Surrey. I adore his style.

    Should there be space for a batter like Sibley even in England's ultra-attacking approach? Hit the thumbs...

    A third wicket for Simon Harmer and the end is nigh for Somerset at Chelmsford.

    Craig Overton is removed by a fantastic catch from Matt Critchley and Essex are two wickets away from a second Division One win of the summer.

    Dom Sibley has now passed the 300-ball and 400-minute mark at the crease for Surrey.

    He's on 82 runs as Surrey just keep grinding out runs.

    He might be 38 but Alastair Cook's slip catching shows so signs of dimming.

    James Rew tries to cut the spin of Simon Harmer away but gets too thin an edge and the former England captain takes a wonderful diving catch to snare a ball that had already almost gone past him.

    Deserved reward for Harmer as well - he's bowled a gruelling 37 overs in the sun yesterday and today, conceding 102 runs but now taking a crucial second wicket to edge Essex closer to what now looks an inevitable victory.

    Joe Clarke continues to lead Notts' resistance at Trent Bridge.

    He's past 150 for the fourth time in his career - and this is also now his highest score for Notts.

    It continues to be very hard work for Warwickshire, who still lead by 96.

    I suggested an hour or so ago there would no doubt be partnerships down the batting order today.

    Despite Durham claiming the wicket of Kiran Carlson with the fifth ball of the day, there hasn't been another wicket for more than an hour.

    Chris Cooke and Billy Root have so far put on 59 for Glamorgan's sixth wicket and batting doesn't look too problematic. The ball is also 62 overs old. It's a bit of a waiting game.

    Ooh, Josh almost had to eat his words there as Dom Sibley edged a nervy one from Arshdeep Singh towards the slip cordon.

    But, luckily for the Surrey opener, it didn't quite carry.

    Sam Cook beats Kasey Aldridge's attempted defence to completely blitz the stumps for a golden duck.

    Cook's on a hat-trick and, ooh, it's close, but the delivery just whistles past the leg stump of Craig Overton.

    But it's a wicket maiden - and, more importantly, it's swung the pendulum totally in Essex's favour.

    Big wicket for Essex.

    Tom Abell nicks Sam Cook behind to wicketkeeper Will Buttleman and departs for the pavilion 17 runs short of his century. Credit to Abell, who was walking before the umpire even raised his finger.

    A fine knock from the Somerset skipper but could that be the beginning of the end? Well...

    Dom Sibley drives a single towards cover and scampers down the track to bring up Surrey's 300. He's unbeaten on 75 runs off 278 balls after more than six hours at the crease.

    Just 201 runs more needed for the Division One leaders - in what, we will keep reminding you, would be the second biggest run chase in Championship history and the biggest since all the way back in 1925.

  12. LANCASHIRE BEAT HAMPSHIRE BY SIX WICKETS

    Lancs 374 & 142-4 v Hants 142 & 371

    Rob Jones sweeps Felix Organ for consecutive fours before smearing him down the ground for another boundary.

    Dane Vilas then hits the winning runs to finish unbeaten on 64.

    The hosts always had control of the game after skittling Hampshire on the first day.

    They then built a big lead with Phil Salt's first Lancashire hundred.

    Hampshire fought well in their second innings with captain James Vince making 87 but no-one could play the big innings needed to post a tricky enough target.

    Lancs lost both openers last night but Vilas has guided his side to victory.

    It's Lancashire's first win of the season after five straight draws.

    Surrey will be pretty pleased with that first hour - they started at 263 and are up to 298.

    They've seen off the new ball too.

    Sussex captain Tom Alsop reaches his century at Hove and they declare immediately.

    Worcestershire will need a mammoth 385 for victory.

    Only 19 more needed but Lancashire lose Daryl Mitchell to a leg side strangle.

    Very unfortunate. The New Zealander won't be there at the end.

  16. YORKSHIRE BEAT DERBYSHIRE
    Breaking

    Yorkshire (353 & 215-7) beat Derbyshire (111 & 453)

    Dom Bess smacks a full toss from Alex Thomson to the mid-wicket fence and secures a first victory of the season for Yorkshire.

    Bess finishes on 41 off 41 balls, with captain Shan Masood 95 not out.

    Derbyshire were favourites after removing Dawid Malan with the first ball of the day to leave Yorkshire seven down with 65 still needed.

    But Bess and Masood's stand of 68 has seen their side home.

    Yorkshire move off the foot of the Division Two table and Derbyshire, still without a win this season, drop to the bottom.

    Dom Bess flicks one from Mark Watt out to deep mid-wicket and the batters run three.

  18. Kent v Surrey 291-3 (target 501)

    The 6ft 3in, wavy-haired Australian paceman Wes Agar is an intimidating figure for any batter as he thunders in to bowl but Dom Sibley and Ben Foakes are generally coping with the challenge well.

    The runs have dried up a little bit, admittedly, but Surrey have several hours to get the 210 runs needed to complete a club-record run chase.

  19. Yorkshire require four more runs

    Dom Bess scuffs a sweep shot off Mark Watt and the ball trickles fine to the boundary.

    What a gem of an innings this has been from Bess as he goes to 34 off 39 balls.

    Four more needed.
