Well, that's it from us after a pretty staggering day. It's crazy how quickly we've come to just expect these record-breaking days from England.

We will be back with you from 10:45 tomorrow as England try to get the remaining wickets as quickly as possible.

For now, treat yourselves to Stephan Shemilt's match report, and we look forward to you joining us tomorrow!

History of the game tells you you have to leave the ball well. This England side are ripping up the history of the game.

Ben Duckett will try and play the way he has played against Australia. I can't see how you will be consistently successful if you are not going to leave one in every hundred but Ben Duckett will have a go.

He looks in a fantastic state of mind. He looks so compact.

England opener Ben Duckett on Today at the Test: "It was very good. It genuinely hasn't sunk in. I'll have some food and reflect on it. it's been a crazy six months and to start the summer like that and make a century at Lord's was something I dreamt of as a kid.

"Even 12 months ago I thought I'd never play Test cricket for England again. Even with other captains I probably wouldn't have but Stokesy and Baz wanted me to open the batting and play the way I've played throughout my career and a lot of thanks to them."

On the Ashes: "For me is about playing to my strengths and the way I've played through my career. I would be disappointed if I went away from that. I know how difficult that challenge will be, especially at the top of the order, they are probably one of the greatest attacks ever."

It was difficult viewing. I give credit to England. They are ruthless. Runs are hard to come by most of the time in Test cricket.

Ollie Pope hasn't always had it easy, this environment, coach and captain is perfect for him.

By the time Jonny Bairstow or Ben Stokes could have gone out to bat it would have been irrelevant. Half an hour trying to launch it out of the ground would have been great fun but I don't think it would have been preparing you for two weeks' time. Ireland were knackered.

Ben Duckett will be happy if Australia bowl wide at him. The cut shots are his bread and butter.

The slight worry is. when the ball gets to 88mph and it zips away a little, when you're playing everything, does he follow it with his hands.

Duckett is looking to score off everything. He scored 180 but is not flamboyant. He has worked on his leg-side game to get off strike.

For Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, it was certainly a memorable day.

Duckett's century was his second overall and his first on home soil, eventually out for a staggering 182 from 178 balls.

Ireland slipped to 18-2 in reply to England's mammoth total before their position looked even more perilous with a nasty-looking injury to James McCollum, who twisted his ankle and was barely able to walk by the end.

It looked bad, so he is unlikely to return tomorrow, meaning England will only need another six wickets.

  9. 'Tongue could be around for a while'published at 18:42 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

England, over the last year, have got selection spot on.

Josh Tongue arrived this week, bowled a few in the nets and Chris Woakes was moved out of the way.

This England set-up is doing things slightly differently.

Team is a positive but Tongue was the real standout for me. He looks like he could be around a while if he could stay fit.

England will feel they can win this game tomorrow. It has been a long and chastening day for Ireland.

That concludes a pretty brutal day for Ireland.

We always knew there was going to be a big gulf between the two sides but it has been stark.

England racked up 524-4 in just 82.4 overs (yes, you read that right) as Ireland's bowlers toiled and toiled on a good Lord's pitch.

Ben Duckett hit 182, Pope 205 and half-centuries for Joe Root and Zak Crawley.

That was a good little stand from Tector and Tucker. It was a good effort.

England's short-ball tactics, in my humble opinion, went on too long on such a docile pitch.

  13. Close of play - Ire 97-3published at 26 overs

    Trail by 255

Ben Stokes has men gathered round the bat for Jack Leach's last over, which means four of them have to leg it when Harry Tector clips one down to a vacant fine leg.

Credit to Tector and Lorcan Tucker there in a tough situation, and having lost opener James McCollum to a nasty injury.

England are in a truly dominant position, but the game will go to a third day.

Through mid-wicket like a tracer bullet!

That's not the way you bowl, Stuart.

  15. Ire 92-3published at 25 overs

After that knock to the helmet from Josh Tongue, Lorcan Tucker has just been pinned on the shoulder by Stuart Broad but responds with a thumping pull shot for four.

    Lovely stuff.

Ben Stokes sends another review upstairs for a strangle down the leg side.

Broad liked it, but he usually does, doesn't he?

Ireland tick one over closer to seeing out the day.

I was at school with Coldplay's Chris Martin. Decent medium fast bowler as I recall.

At this stage, Tucker doesn't need to be taking on these shots if he doesn't want to. With less than 15 minutes left, he'd be kicking himself if he got called out now.
