Went to school with Jeremy Guscott, Ralph Allen school in Bath. He was a terrible loser, I think he got expelled!

Here's how Josh Tongue took his first Test wicket.

    Great celebration.

James McCollum slashes, edges in the air but safely between slip and gully for a streaky four.

    Risky.

No foot movement there from the Irish skipper, he's had a long day on the field. He's had a late cut at it, a little flick outside the off stump and Jonny Bairstow completes the catch.

    Balbirnie c Bairstow b Tongue 2 (Ire 18-2)

    Two in the over!

Andy Balbirnie is furious with himself as he tries to cut a delivery that is not short enough and gets an edge through to the tumbling Jonny Bairstow.

Ireland sink deeper and deeper into trouble.

Well bowled Josh Tongue! He's a big unit isn't he, he comes in big chested and looks to bowl it into the surface and it thudded into the pad. Good start for Tongue.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.1 overs

    Moor lbw b Tongue 11 (Ire 16-1)

Crashing into the middle of middle stump!

Josh Tongue is rightfully delighted and is mobbed by his teammates in an eruption of hair-ruffling and high-fives.

The ball nips back in quite sharply to the right-hander and Moor is trapped on the crease. It was very much a review of desperation.

  8. Ireland reviewpublished at 6.1 overs

Josh Tongue has his first Test wicket! Or does he?

It looks pretty straight, but Moor reviews.

  9. Ire 16-0published at 6 overs

Shot! James McCollum thrashes a wide one from Matthew Potts past cover for four emphatic runs.

  10. Ire 12-0published at 5 overs

Peter Moor carves one through the covers for Ireland's first boundary, which will give him a boost.

It still looks like a lovely pitch to bat on.

It's an absolute mountain to climb for Ireland, but there's definitely runs in this pitch, the sun's been beaming down on it for a few days. Just go out there and enjoy, try and get yourself a few runs.

  12. Ire 8-0published at 4 overs

Matthew Potts has a big lbw shout on James McCollum, but they opt against reviewing it and reviews show a faint edge.

We learned last week that Potts and Jordan Pickford went to the same school. My colleague Matt Henry's most famous school alumni is former Manchester City footballer Michael Brown, while mine is the actor of Esme from Peaky Blinders.

Any of our readers got any famous schoolmates?

Ollie Pope will be absolutely delighted from today, you can never take away that double hundred. It's there in the record books, it doesn't matter who it's against.

  14. Ire 8-0published at 3 overs

There's no doubt that every England player out there is full of belief that they can win it tonight.

It's not going to be easy for Ireland, but it will be very positive for them if they can battle it out, and take the game as deep as they can.

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

Even though England have scored at over six runs an over, it's still felt quite boring today. Whatever style of cricket you play, it's got to have that competitiveness to make it entertaining. You feel like when Ireland go and play the West Indies, I feel like that would be a much more competitive game than when they play England.

  17. Ire 6-0published at 2 overs

Matthew Potts is sharing the new ball with Broad, and James McCollum dabs a single down to fine leg first ball to settle his nerves.

A couple of balls later, Ben Stokes gifts them four overthrows after the pair scamper a risky single.

They only trail by 346 now.

Roland: England scored 524 runs in 496 balls!! Test cricket like never before! We obviously won’t be able to do this to the Aussies every innings, but if we do it once or twice in the series it will be amazing!

John C Hughes: The problem with Bazball is that there are no dull periods to squeeze in an afternoon nap!
