The issue is that Ben Stokes has been unable to bowl. The seamers have bowled a lot of overs and there is no turn out there for Jack Leach.

So they are going to have to have a real think about the balance of the side going into the Ashes.

    Thanks Ffion.

Well, like most people I am surprised that the match has gone this far but credit has to go to Ireland for battling hard - they were 18-2 and 63-3 at one stage on Friday evening don't forget.

The next target will be for Andy McBrine to get 15 more runs and secure a place on the honours board.

That was a remarkable session. Mark Adair and Andy McBrine added 163 for the seventh wicket, before Adair fell for 88 - but McBrine is still going strong on 85.

England persisted with their short-ball tactic, with some interesting results, but absolute credit has to go to Ireland for their resilience. Most of us thought we'd be on our way home by now.

Anyway, to take you through the next session will be Tom Mallows.

Tim Rick: Why does the headline say Ireland have avoided the follow on? They’ve avoided an innings defeat.

Blame my boss, Tim. All corrected now though!

It really is a bizarre sport at times. There has been no announcement to the crowd about anything.

Finally, here's Stuart Broad with the new ball - and it's a maiden.

    And that'll be tea.

We have checked the rules and we are pretty sure that James McCollum could have a runner because his injury occurred during the game. But he could barely stand yesterday, so I can't imagine that will happen - but who knows!

Simon: Surely McCollum could get strapped up enough to give McBrine a chance of getting on the honours board… if it came to that.

Graham Hume extends Ireland's lead by nabbing a single from the final ball and keeping the strike.

Interesting move when McBrine is on 85.

England have been made to work hard by Ireland today, but this was a lovely moment as Josh Tongue picked up his five-wicket haul on debut.

Listen to the roar. Ireland are in the lead and England will have to bat again.

Joe Root shares the new ball with Josh Tongue which is... something.

Number 11 Graham Hume helps himself to two fours through the covers and Ireland lead! England will bat again!

The Irish contingent at Lord's goes absolutely wild!

There is more movement for Josh Tongue with the new ball, as he zips one through Andy McBrine's defence, but he responds with a hack into the leg side that just evades Matthew Potts at mid-wicket.

    He's on to 84.

England are happy to spread the field and give Andy McBrine the single to bowl at the new batter, but Graham Hume is up to the task and blocks out the rest of Joe Root's over.

Now England have taken the new ball, and we're also going to have a delayed tea break.

Graham Hume is the last man for Ireland.

England have the new ball available but opt not to take it, with Joe Root getting another over.

With one wicket left, there is the option to take tea half an hour later. We haven't had it confirmed whether that will happen yet.

Josh Tongue may be delighted but the Manchester City fan opposite me (he has a name, but I'm just sticking with this now) isn't quite as pleased any more.

Josh Tongue has ball in hand saluting the crowd.

What a performance on his debut and what a conundrum he has given the England selectors ahead of the Ashes

It's five for Josh Tongue! What a performance on debut.

England are one wicket away from a win.

It's full, draws a drive from Hand and Zak Crawley takes a smart catch low at slip.

Tongue is beaming, waving the ball to the crowd as his team-mates surround him. Lovely scenes.

The first sign of intent from Fionn Hand as he slog sweeps aerially, but it lands safely between two fielders.

Joe Root follows it up with a bouncer, which is interesting to say the least. Andy McBrine deals with it easily.

Just the one from the over, as Josh Tongue probes at a good length outside off stump and beats Fionn Hand on a couple of occasions.

It feels like Ireland are just playing until tea now, and England are just waiting for the new ball in two overs' time.

It has been solid from Fionn Hand so far. He doesn't look like getting out.
