McBrine went to his fifty in a pretty nice way, too!

A boundary each in the over for McBrine and Adair off Jack Leach, who is offering very little.

The ball is just sitting up nicely for them to clobber into the leg side.

    Adair is on to 87.

Oh! A short ball almost gets a wicket, which is a surprise.

But Adair's pull shot lands safely in the outfield.

Great credit to Ireland and these two in particular. It has been great entertainment and the crowd are really appreciative of it.

They have been under the pump for two days and now it is their turn in the sun.

Some of the shots we've seen in this partnership wouldn't look out of place in Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope's stand yesterday.

Number eight Andy McBrine guides one effortlessly down to third man for four more.

    300 up for Ireland.

It's been some innings from Mark Adair, whose 80 have come from just 70 balls.

And check out the shot that got him to fifty! Class.

Mark Adair's 80 is the highest score by a number nine at Lord's since Stuart Broad's 169 in 2010.

That shot sums up this partnership really. They have played with a real freedom and the crowd are loving it.

    Ire 297-6

What a shot! And what an innings so far!

Andy McBrine reverse-sweeps for four to reach his second Test half-century.

It's time for a drinks' break, and England have some thinking to do. But this has been brilliant entertainment from the Irish, who are now only 53 runs behind.

I know Ben Stokes' captaincy gets all the plaudits and is exciting everyone but I think he gets his declarations all wrong. Plenty of time left in the game yesterday. Bat on and post a crushing total, the part of total that Ireland could bat for two days and win the match. Bairstow etc get a bat before the Ashes and the bowlers know they have plenty of time and Ireland know they will face three new balls. The crowd would not be less entertained.

We have well and truly gone to England's classic plan of bowling short to the tail that always brings a frustrating lower-order partnership.

England's fielders sprawl about in the outfield to save a few boundaries as Mark Adair, who is now on 79, pulls and cuts with relative ease.

This is now Ireland's highest partnership in a men's Test...

England are trying to change the ball but the umpires are having none of it.

Back-to-back fours again from Andy McBrine! He's moved to 49.

Is this a worry for England yet?

Ben Stokes is clearly unfit to bowl, because if he was he would have been on a long time ago.

Funny how as soon as England have one bad session there’s ‘no plan’ or ‘tactics’. We’ve had nearly 18 months of the most entertaining cricket ever.

Matthew Potts replaces Stuart Broad as England's search for a wicket continues.

He starts well, beating the outside edge, before the last ball is guided for a nicely-timed four by McBrine.

England are without Ollie Robinson, James Anderson and Mark Wood, remember.

This is what happens when your all-rounder cannot bowl 10-15 overs in an innings.

If Ben Stokes can't bowl then the seamers have to bowl more overs, which brings down their intensity.

I think someone needs to remind the England players that the FA Cup final is kicking off slightly earlier than useful this year.
