If the pitches are like this and the ball continues to behave like this, then I think we will be seeing a lot of Steve Smith in the next few weeks.
Ha! In the slot from Broad and Mark Adair clubs it T20-style over mid-wicket for four.
He follows it with a gloriously timed late-cut down to third man for another boundary.
Stokes hangs his head in frustration. Broad certainly won't like that...

This is more like it from Ireland.

Mark Adair's half-century is the 16th against England at Lord's scored at faster than a run a ball.
Others on the list include Chris Gayle and Mohammad Azharuddin. Kapil Dev is the quickest, taking just 35 balls.
Jack Leach's line is all over the place. As I say that, he draws an appeal as McBrine is struck on the pad but he's charged a long way down the pitch, so there's no review.
McBrine's dab past the slips brings three runs and the 100 partnership between this pair.
Great effort.

Rich Harle: Don't understand England's tactics here. If Leach bowls like this for the rest of the summer, he'll be smashed out of the attack in a matter of overs. Broad bowling well but not really threatening. Not sure what the plan is.

Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
Adair will be absolutely delighted with that. He has made it look easy.

Back-to-back!
Stuart Broad drifts one down the leg-side and gifts Adair four more to fine leg, followed by some width outside off that he flashes down to third man!
Ben Stokes rubs his chin in frustration.
England's lead is now less than 100.

What a way to get your fifty!
Ire 251-6
An upper cut over the keeper's head to get to your first Test 50!
Not a bad way to do it.
Well batted, Mark Adair. He moves to 53 from just 47 balls.

Andy McBrine is playing really well.
He got his foot to the pitch of the ball and absolutely nailed it through the off side.
Mark Adair dabs a single into the leg side to move to 49 before Andy McBrine climbs into another half-volley from Leach and dispatches it to the boundary.
Any top order batter would be proud of that one.
Broad responds with a beauty that just nips past the outside edge and draws a loud 'ooooh' from Jonny Bairstow, who has been particularly chirpy during this Test match.
He's clearly delighted to be back.

Not a lot of pace from Stuart Broad. Mark Adair saw it early and had all the time in the world.
Well played.
A short ball from Stuart Broad sits up so nicely for the batter that it's practically begging to be hit for four.
And Mark Adair obliges. He's on to 47 from 39.

Andy McBrine is playing very nicely outside his off stump.

McBrine responds with a glorious cover drive for four. That's a contender for shot of the day.
He then drills one straight back at Leach's outstretched right hand that goes for four. There may have been a fingertip on it but it would be very harsh to call it a drop.
It was travelling like a rocket.

It will be a quick game if you start giving lefties out with shots like that.
Ire 229-6
Oooh! McBrine survives on umpire's call on impact.
That was closer than we thought.
