    That was ferocious!

  2. Aus 106-3published at 38 overs

The aggression against Moeen Ali continues.

The England spinner gives it a bit of air but Travis Head responds with an aggressive punchy drive back over his head and straight to the rope for four.

Moeen then drops it in too short, allowing Head to cut away square to the rope.

Change of bowling at the other end - here is Ollie Robinson.

It's such a slow pitch so you need someone with a bit of difference to get something out of it.

And I think that's why Stokes thought he was the only one who could get Stokes before lunch. So much of his captaincy is done on instinct.

Stuart Broad is absolutely steaming in, he is really up for it.

But Khawaja and Head look up for the challenge, too.

That's a very good bouncer from Stuart Broad, forcing Travis Head to take evasive action and sparking an excited murmur among the crowd.

Broad loves to be England's cheerleader at times like this and the fans respond.

By the way, Australia's run rate is a pretty tepid 2.6.

    No Bazball here.

Even though this series has only just started and they haven’t achieved anything yet, England have pleasantly surprised me again. I thought Australia might be one step too far for Bazball. England are making Test cricket sooooo exciting!

Travis Head follows Usman Khawaja the previous over by charging Moeen Ali, with the ball bouncing just before the rope for four.

See it, hit it, looks to be the Australia plan to Moeen.

Usman Khawaja just looks free. He is enjoying the moment, enjoying the opportunity and he looks very relaxed at the crease.

50 for Usman Khawajapublished at 35.3 overs

Usman Khawaja nudges Moeen Ali into the off side for a single that brings up his 50.

A brilliant batting effort from the Aussie opener, especially given the chaos of the morning session.

When Broad took his two wickets, I was in my green dress so maybe that was the lucky one.

I've had an outfit change since then.

England are going to test Travis Head with the short ball but there is so little pace in the pitch.

  14. Aus 88-3published at 35 overs

Ooohs and ahhhs from the slips as Usman Khawaja plays a false shot off a thick inside edge.

Stuart Broad then drops it back of a length, luring a rather awkward-looking pull from Khawaja for single, offering Broad another delivery at Travis Head.

Broad really bends his back to try and bang it into the surface, but there is not too much life there and Head can comfortably fend it off.

Moeen Ali has got a little bit of turn and bounce but there wasn't much swing or seam at all for the quicks.

It is still a very good batting pitch.

Who's Ben going to bowl after lunch, Ben Duckett & Zak Crawley? Why not, everything else seems to work.

  18. Aus 86-3published at 34 overs

    Head 8, Khawaja 48

A single nudges Khawaja to 48. It is early days I admit but a half-century would be a bit of riposte to those who tipped him to struggle this series.

    Aus 86-3published at 33.1 overs

Shot! Usman Khawaja has just lunched Moeen Ali back over his head for a huge six.

I think that's a not-so-subtle hint as to Australia's approach to Moeen this afternoon.

  20. Aus 79-3published at 33 overs

Usman Khawaja pushes a single off Stuart Broad to bring Travis Head on strike, immediately triggering a field change.

Head looked a bit vulnerable to the short ball against India last week and Broad obliges with some short stuff, much to the delight of the crowd.

Jonny Bairstow thinks Head has feathered one off his pads, but Ben Stokes resists the review.
