for James Rewpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 431-5 v Nottinghamshire 186

A fourth century of 2023 for James Rew!

This 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is surely an England player of the future!

He gets there with an edge between the wicketkeeper and first slip, but he won't care and it won't show up in the scorebook.

Rew put on 89 with George Bartlett and now 111 with Kasey Aldridge and he is showing a real appetite for batting.

  2. Dickson pays tribute to Daniel Bell-Drummondpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Northants 237 & 66-3 v Kent 621

Somerset's Sean Dickson, who scored 318 for Kent against Northamptonshire at The County Ground, Beckenham in 2017, has paid tribute to the third and newest member of Kent's 300 club.

Dickson said: "It’s fantastic to see 'Deebs' get to 300. I still stay in contact with Daniel on a regular basis. It’s so well deserved - with the amount of time and hard work he puts in, I’m over the moon for him.

"I know he’s a very popular guy in the Kent dressing room so this will be celebrated sufficiently!"

  3. 50 runs

for Ryan Higginspublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 150 & 125-4

Ryan Higgins is not afraid of spin bowling on this Ageas Bowl pitch, that much is clear. He's played an array of attacking shots and chased away the dual-spin attack of Felix Organ and Liam Dawson.

He brings up his 16th career half-century from 59 balls with seven fours.

The stand is up to 74 with John Simpson and the deficit is down to 144.

  4. 50 runs

for Dan Mousleypublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 235-6

A fine cut shot from Dan Mousley brings him Warwickshire's first 50 of the match.

Mousley has hit some nice shots after lunch, including taking 18 off this latest Simon Harmer over.

  5. Postpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 227-6

Dan Mousley goes four, six off Simon Harmer and he and Dom Bess have put on 54 for the seventh wicket in just 51 balls.

Some nice intent from these batters, if a little too late in terms of the overall game.

  6. wicket

WICKET Whiteman c Qadri b Denly 28published at 14:20 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Northants 237 & 63-3 v Kent 621

Ill-judged sweep attempt from Sam Whiteman sees the Northants skipper send the ball down the throat of Hamid Qadri to give Joe Denly a second scalp.

    Yorkshire 550-9 dec v Gloucestershire 238-5

Miles Hammond takes one ball to get his eye in as play begins.

Then second ball, he dances down to Dan Moriarty's slow left-armers and hits it for six.

We like that approach as Hammond moves to 90! Very Bazball!

  8. 200 runs

up for Warwickshirepublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 157 & 200-6

Dan Mousley hits another six off Matt Critchley to help his team reach 200. It's so big that it has sailed out of the ground - although Chelmsford is one of the smallest on the circuit.

    Warwickshire now trail by 99.

  9. 400 up for Somersetpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 404-5 v Nottinghamshire 186

James Rew and Kasey Aldridge are really making the Notts bowlers work very hard.

Their partnership is worth 82 and a declaration is looking a lot more likely than Notts taking these last five Somerset wickets.

  10. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 183-6

A juggling act from Nick Browne at silly point as he tries to hold on to a firm drive from Dan Mousley.

But after three goes at clutching it, the ball pops onto the floor and Mousley survives.

  11. Postpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Northants 237 & 55-2 v Kent 621

No news is good news from a Northants perspective. Luke Procter has made four from 17 balls while Sam Whiteman has gone onto 25.

The deficit is 329 but all these numbers don't really matter, it's the time that does. Northants need to be batting in 28 hours from now if they are to avoid defeat.

  13. wicket

LEICESTERSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 422published at 14:03 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Durham 517-6 dec, Leicestershire 422

Lunch clearly was not a success at Leicester.

Three wickets have gone down in five overs for just six runs - and the hosts are all out for 422, a deficit of 95.

It began with on-loan Matt Parkinson (who will not be with Durham next season) getting out Leicestershire centurion Colin Ackermann (who will!).

Then unused England returnee Matty Potts finished off the Foxes with two wickets in two balls, Parky's twin brother Callum Parkinson followed by last man Matt Salisbury.

Time for Durham openers Alex Lees and Michael Jones to have a second dig.

  14. Postpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 150 & 99-4

Ryan Higgins is playing very positively for Middlesex, though he's had the physio out to have a look at his hand after a rap on the glove.

He sweeps Liam Dawson for four through the vacant backward square leg position to move to 33 from 37 balls.

The deficit is down to 170.

  15. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

James Rew launches Matt Carter into the stands for his second six since lunch.

Rew is now up to 81 and his partnership with Kasey Aldridge is worth 72.

Somerset now lead by 369, so how many runs will they want before declaring?

  16. new ball

Surrey take the new ballpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Lancashire 274 & 206-5, Surrey 360

Sam Curran has a brand new Kookaburra in his hand.

    What will happen next?

He has Phil Salt dropped by Jamie Smith at second slip, that's what!!!

    A second life for Salt!

    Scott Read (BBC Radio Lancashire):

"The Kookaburra is king when the ball is new and Lancashire know that the threat is around the corner.

"Only one wicket falling in the morning session, the nightwatchman reaching a maiden first-class half-century and batting looking a lot easier.

"It’s a credit to the skill of the Surrey attack that, even with a soft older ball, they’ve bowled with great discipline and offered few scoring chances for Lancashire."

  17. wicket

    WICKET Burgess c A Cook b Critchley 2published at 13:55 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 173-6

Two wickets in four balls for Matt Critchley!

Michael Burgess goes for a big drive off only his third ball and succeeds only in a flashing edge.

But it's brilliantly snaffled by Sir Alastair Cook, diving to his left at slip.

What a start to the afternoon for Critchley and Essex.

  18. wicket

WICKET Bethell c Browne b Critchley 36published at 13:52 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 171-5

Matt Critchley has bowled a few loose ones, but he lands this leg break in exactly the right spot.

It spins and bounces off the edge of Jacob Bethell's bat and is pouched sharply at short leg.

Essex need five wickets for victory with Warwickshire 128 runs adrift of an innings defeat.

  19. 6 runs

Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 166-4

Dan Mousley dances down the wicket to his third ball of the afternoon session and smashes Matt Critchley for six.

It is the first of the innings and only second of the match for Warwickshire.

Mousley won't die wondering with this approach.

  20. Back under waypublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 & 156-4

A familiar feel at Chelmsford for the start of the afternoon session.

    A Simon Harmer maiden.
