Glenn Maxwell (79 from 63) has played the leading role in a century partnership inside 20 overs for the sixth wicket. Rob Yates has 120 from 288 balls at the other end and is providing perfect support for a succession of Bears teammates.

  2. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 161-5 v Northants 219

Maiden from Taylor. Middlesex are 60 behind.

59 now as White bowls a ball that takes off a bit off a length and Holden does well to ride the bounce and push the ball way for one.

One more to Higgins pushed through backward point. The partnership is worth 34.

WICKET Bess c Brown b Dawson 54published at 14:21 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 362-7 v Hampshire

    Fifty... and gone.

A back-foot punch through cover was Dom Bess's aim, a feather to Ben Brown's glove was the reality. His eye-catching 68-ball stint is over. Somerset is seven down.

James Rew is joined by another 19-year-old, debutant Alfie Ogborne - another of the home side's changes, with Finals Day looming on Saturday.

His first ball in first class cricket is defended expertly.

John: "#bbccricket, external Tom Westley gets another 50 and is the leading run scorer in the country. Is he a solution to England's problem at #3?"

Actually, James Rew is the top scorer in the Championship at the moment, but Tom is having a really good season.

    Durham 121-4 v Glos 316

Goodman is building up his pace here and bowls a well directed bumper.

Clark sways out of the way.

The last ball is much fuller and firmly blocked. Durham have stopped the rot for now.

  6. 50 runs

for Dom Besspublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 359-6 v Hampshire

Brought up with a neat clip for four to deep square leg boundary of Kyle Abbott. Seven fours and a six in his 66-ball stay. Playing with James Rew at the other end must be fun. That's the 14th first class half-century of his career and his second in as many games after registering one for Warwickshire in their second innings at Chelmsford last time out.

    Their partnership is 91.

  7. Division Two updatepublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

Derbyshire have lost Luis Reece at Hove, caught at first slip by Tom Alsop off Henry Shipley for 23.

Brooke Guest has now been joined by Wayne Madsen and they are 76-2 in the 29th over, replying to Sussex's 402 all out.

They are still off the field in Cardiff, where more rain arrived just as the umpires were about to head to the middle for an inspection.

  8. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 159-5 v Northants 219

The sun is out here after a largely gloomy day yesterday.

A good over from White, bowling a tight line back of a length.

The last ball is squeezed away down to fine leg for a leg bye.

  9. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham 117-4 v Glos 316

Graham Clark is off the mark with his 12th ball, a very short one from Goodman, which is slapped in front of square on the off side for four.

He picks off two more through the off side as Durham try to rebuild.

  10. 6 runs

For Dom Besspublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 353-6 v Hampshire

... he clearly likes being back at Taunton. A couple of steps down the track and he swivels to pull a short ball from Keith Barker away for six over long leg to bring up a third batting bonus point.

    The hosts were 80-5, remember...

  11. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 158-5 v Northants 219

Shot! Holden pounces on a bit of width from Taylor and smashes the ball behind square on the off side for four.

Runs are coming quite quickly in this session - and Taylor oversteps again with the third ball of the over.

Holden swings and misses the next ball, trying to cut through point.

    Surrey 355 v Notts 100-1

    Will YoungImage source, Rex Features

Will Young hits the first ball of a new Dan Worrall over for four and now has 7,000 first-class runs to his credit, a nice little milestone.

Surrey really are being very slow on the uptake as far as keeping the ball away from his pads is concerned.

The Notts total reaches 100 as Young punches into the covers off the back foot and adds two runs.

  13. Postpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 346-6 v Hampshire

James Rew's highlights are going be worth a look. His technique is very nice to watch.

Rew (143) and Dom Bess (41) have continued to find the rope and their partnership is already worth 78 in 20 overs.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Rickelton c Roderick b Waite 6published at 14:07 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Yorkshire 234-3

Ryan Rickelton pays the price that so many previous batters have done before him, of hitting a boundary off one ball, then getting out the next.

He slashes for four then promptly plays forward and gets an edge to fellow South African Gareth Roderick.

George Hill is the new man.

  15. 50 runs

for Glenn Maxwellpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 301-5

A half-century from just 47 balls for Glenn Maxwell. He brings it up with his seventh four to go with his six, a thickish edge off Matt Quinn.

Two off the next ball brings up the 300 and secures a second batting bonus point for the visitors, who now lead by 132.

  16. Postpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 150-5 v Northants 219

Taylor bowls a really good ball to Holden, jagging in sharply off the seam - but he's overstepped.

That no ball brings up the Middlesex 150 in the 39th over.

  17. 50 runs

for Tom Westleypublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 114-4

    Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

Tom Westley has now passed 800 runs for the season for Essex, no question that he is leading his team by example.

He reaches 50 for the sixth time this season - two of the previous five were converted into hundreds - off 117 balls with a boundary through mid-wicket off Will Williams.

He and Paul Walter also have a 50 partnership.

  18. wicket

WICKET Robinson c&b Goodman 7published at 14:00 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham 109-4 v Glos 316

Goodman is getting a bit of movement through the air - and quite a bit off the bat as Robinson drives the bowler down the ground for four.

Got his this time! A very full ball squares the batter up and he's pushed the ball straight back to the bowler.

That ball might have stuck a bit in the pitch, actually.

Great tumbling catch taken on the follow through.

    Graham Clark is in next.

  19. Postpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 289-5

Glenn Maxwell is making his first class debut for Warwickshire, but that's not stopped him going along at a strike rate of 100.

He timed a delightful straight drive perfectly to send Grant Stewart back down the ground for his sixth four to move to 45.

He and Rob Yates are in some nick here.

  20. Postpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 147-5 v Northants 219

Sanderson offers width outside off stump and Holden cuts the bowler through backward point for four.

A near identical ball is slapped just wide of the slips but the ball lands safely.
