  10. Rew's composure a hallmark of qualitypublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 329-6 v Hampshire - lunch

Is there a brighter prospect in English cricket than James Rew?

The 19-year-old only came into the Somerset side a year ago and already has six centuries to his name, including five this season.

His 132 not out is his highest first-class score and takes him to 863 runs for the season, but it is his composure as much as his skill which marks him out as a very special cricketer.

A word too about 22 year old Kasey Aldridge, who helped Rew add 188 for Somerset’s 6th wicket, a club record against Hampshire. He’s another bright prospect, and they’re both local Somerset boys. Ciders all round!

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 271-5 - lunch

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

Can we play you every week? Rob Yates is too polite to mutter that over lunch, but he might be forgiven for thinking it, having raised his second century of the Championship season – both against Kent – five minutes before the interval.

It has been a patient effort, although at a slightly higher cadence today after three early boundaries. He may sense that his job is not done yet, with a second new ball - just four overs old - to help to see off.

It is possible that Glenn Maxwell may be the man to help soften the fresh Kookaburra a little more quickly than normal, the Australian making an unexpected appearance in the Championship following his stint in the T20 Blast.

There was no big score from the Big Show in the short competition, but his innings so far has suggested it might come today, with one ball already struck towards the top deck of the new flats.

Jack Leaning has been has made him the most successful Kent bowler so far. He lured Jacob Bethell and Ed Barnard into faulty strokes in the same over, and even allowed himself an over with the new ball. His efforts may help to limit Warwickshire’s lead, but the visitors are already 100 in front with considerable power to add.

Kasey Aldridge fell 12 short of a century, having been dropped by Vince on eight yesterday.

Hampshire have toiled away but Dom Bess has a quickfire 34 and a third batting bonus point is only 23 runs away. Somerset are bossing this.

    Yorkshire 219-1 v Worcestershire

Yorkshire go to lunch well set, within 31 runs of a first batting bonus point.

  18. Postpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham 100-2 v Glos 316

Lunch will be taken at 1310 BST so this should be the last over before the break.

Zafar gets a bit of turn and beats Bedingham's outside edge.

He gets a single off the fourth and a sweep from Lees brings one more and the Durham 100 in the 22nd over. We have time for one more Goodman over.

  19. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Sussex 402 v Derbyshire 56-1

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A solid reply from Derbyshire with Brooke Guest and Luis Reece steering the visitors to lunch after the early loss of Harry Came.

Earlier, George Scrimshaw cleaned up the Sussex tail, finishing with 5-49 as the last three wickets fell for just 27, leaving Fynn Hudson Prentice marooned on 63

This looks a good track and having negotiated 21 overs, the visitors will be looking to push on after lunch and make use of the short boundary on one side of the ground

  20. Postpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham 99-2 v Glos 316

Extended session of play here because of the loss of 22 overs yesterday.

Not much sign of turn yet for Zafar, but he's bowling a good line here with some flight to Bedingham, conceding only three singles.

Dom Goodman bowls to Lees - and the third ball is pushed away to backward square by Lees for one.

Bedingham pulls a short ball to square leg for one.
