The sturdy figure of Colin de Grandhomme now doing a very tidy job for Lancashire. Just three runs yielded from three overs so far, two of them maidens. Essex will just be happy to see this through to lunch without any further loss.

Jacob Bethell has tucked into spin bowling with gusto this morning but he's mistimed this latest attempt to slog Jack Leaning over cow corner, top-edging to a sprinting Arshdeep Singh at mid-on who takes a fine catch over his shoulder.
Bethell hit five fours and a six in his 43-ball stay but Bears are four-down. Ed Barnard joins Rob Yates who is on 88* from 230 balls.
