Fours overs lost to weather today, such a shame nearly 180 were lost across the opening couple of days two. Some very good players on show in this one.

The sun is out for Rishi Patel (69) and Lewis Hill (47) who are five shy of a century partnership. Zain ul-Hassan is bowling some medium pace to start the afternoon session.

    Lancs 145 & 140-1 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

The numbers are as follows...Lancashire need to score another 290 in 64 overs, that is a scoring rate of just above 4.5 per over, assuming no rain interruptions. Doable if they can keep wickets intact.

    Worcs 242 & 49-2 v Yorkshire 407

No surprise that play has not resumed after the early lunch was taken, though it has at least stopped raining and the mopping-up operation has begun on the very soggy outfield.

We will let you know when we might expect an inspection or indeed some play, just as soon as we know.

    Surrey 355 & 299-7 v Notts 399 - lunch

When will the declaration come at The Oval?

Brett Hutton picked up a couple of Surrey wickets during the morning but Notts have suffered further injury problems with Dane Paterson having to go off after only one ball of his second spell.

It leaves Hutton - who had cramp issues in the first innings - as the only front-line seamer still standing for Notts.

  12. 'We're here to win', says Durham coach Campbellpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Ryan CampbellImage source, Getty Images

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell has set the goal of becoming "one of the best sides in England" after they beat Gloucestershire in three days to go 60 points clear at the top of Division Two.

That number will come down a little following the finish of other games today, but the north-east county are in a very strong position to return to the top flight for the first time since 2016.

"We know how good a player Alex Lees is, scoring three hundreds in a row. He's showing the way again if there's an opening for an England opener," said Campbell.

"Our point of difference most of the year has been the quality of our fast bowling. Ben Raine, Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse and now (Migael) Pretorius. We're always going to back ourselves even on flat wickets to knock over teams. Potts in his first spell was outstanding and that's where the game was won. England's loss is Durham's gain."

  13. Coles shows 'beautiful timing'published at 13:28 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Sussex 4-2 & 322-8 v Derbyshire 407 - lunch

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A morning in which Sussex have juggled getting enough runs to set a declaration and not losing wickets too quickly to open the door to Derbyshire.

James Coles carried on where he left off yesterday with beautifully timed shots all around the wicket in going to a personal first-class best of 146 not out.

Off-spinner Alex Thomson has again been the pick of the Derbyshire bowlers with eight wickets in the match so far.

  14. Somerset still on course for victorypublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 380 & 78-5

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset's hopes of forcing a third Championship win are still very much alive, despite losing 35 minutes to an unforecasted shower, and once again, it's their 19 year olds they have to thank.

Alfie Ogbourne struck first, having Felix Organ taken in the gully, and then Shoaib Bashir weighed in with two wickets in an over, Fletcha Middleton bowled and James Vince smartly caught at leg slip by Kasey Aldridge for nought.

There are showers about and a combination of that and an increasingly unresponsive Kookaburra ball may yet frustrate Somerset's victory charge.

  18. Lunch at Merchant Taylors'published at 13:02 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 & 61-2 v Northants 219 & 380 - target 323

Double strike for the visitors by Ben Sanderson, removing Stoneman and Malan in successive balls.

Earlier, Eskinazi retired hurt after being struck on the hand by Jack White, exacerbating an existing hand injury.

At times the pitch has played tricks with the odd ball lifting or keeping low.

Middlesex need a lick under four an over to achieve their target, but wickets are the most important number for now.
