  1. Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 77-5

    As you'd imagine, plenty of pressure from Somerset and some aggressive fields set by Tom Abell.

    Five crowding around the bat as Nick Gubbins (11 from 47) and Ben Brown (14 from 22) try to deal with the dual spin attack of Shoaib Bashir and Dom Bess.

    The deficit is down to 93 with five minutes until lunch. There is a downpour on the way, Somerset will hope it hits during the interval and doesn't cost them more precious time.

    No early lunch. That was a short shower. Just four overs lost in the day. Leicestershire will be delighted.

  3. Lancs 145 & 129-1 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

    Another Simon Harmer over, another six by Luke Wells, superbly struck down the ground after a couple of steps down the pitch.

    After a slow start to his innings, he is now 65 not out and has so far added 71 with Josh Bohannon, who has 26.

    Looks like Lancashire think this chase is possible.

    Rob Keogh comes on to bowl some spin at Merchant Taylors'.

    A little bit of width allows Max Holden to steer the ball away for a single but Keogh responds by beating Sam Robson's bat.

    Holden charges down the pitch and clips Keogh's final ball through the leg side to bring up the hosts' 50.

    Nice and sunny at Northwood, in stark contrast to many of the other grounds today.

    Events at The Oval are becoming increaisngly interesting.

    Brett Hutton - who suffered from cramp on day one - takes his third wicket of the innings.

    Surrey lead by 237 as Sean Abbott comes out. He can give it some hammer and the Division One leaders could do with a few extra runs from someone at the moment.

    Jack Carson collects a single off Anuj Dal and Sussex's lead reaches 300. How many more do they want before declaring? Only Tom Alsop knows the answer to that question.

    Max Holden's heart will be going like the clappers.

    A breakdown in communication with Sam Robson almost led to a catastrophic run-out off Jack White... he just about made it home in time to beat the throw.

    That is precisely what the hosts do not need in their quest to reach 323.

    Heavy rain lingering over Worcester and an early lunch has been taken. We'll see what the weather is like at 13:10 or so.

    Worcestershire won't mind one bit, they need 116 to avoid an innings defeat.

    Yorkshire will, they need eight wickets to wrap up victory.

    Four runs to Luke Wells off Sam Cook and he reaches 50 off 83 balls. It's only his second of the season, which is a surprise, given his quality.

    Surrey lose their first wicket of the morning at The Oval.

    Will Jacks tries to come down the pitch to Brett Hutton but is struck on the pad as he plays across the line and the umpire says it was going on to hit.

    Jacks isn't especially thrilled by the decision but his 79-run stand with Tom Lawes is over.

    Jordan Clark is the new batter and the lead is 231.

    BBC Radio Lancashire's Scott Read tells us that a new generator has been summoned from Manchester - but it could take another hour before it arrives.

    James Vince has gone for a four-ball duck - falling to a 19-year-old for the second time in this match.

    Vince glances Shoaib Bashir off his hip but big Kasey Aldridge gets down well at leg slip to scoop the ball up millimetres off the grass.

    Bashir, for the second innings in succession, has career best figures. He has 3-4 off nine overs.

    Double wicket maiden. Somerset's future is bright, my word.

    Ben Brown joins Nick Gubbins with Hampshire still 112 behind.

  14. Tough day ahead for bowlers

    The Foxes can look forward to a day of steady accumulation in search of batting points on a benign pitch in Cardiff, after rain wrecked the first two days and talk of agreed declarations came to nothing.

    Leicestershire, resuming at 28-0, quickly lost Sol Budinger for five as he gloved a hostile short ball from batting hero Michael Neser to Chris Cooke.

    The prolific Rishi Patel played some stylish back-foot punches through the off-side on the way to his half-century, though he was dropped at slip off leg-spinner Mitch Swepson for 46.

    The Australian was then smashed for a couple of sixes over wide long-on by Lewis Hill, and with no assistance from the wicket it looks like a day’s toil for the home bowlers.

    Fletcha Middleton backs-off to 19-year-old spinner Shoaib Bashir, tries to whip the ball towards mid wicket but cannot connect and off come the bails.

    James Vince comes in at six (SIX!) with Hampshire 112 behind and edging closer to an innings defeat against an incredibly inexperienced (albeit promising) Somerset side.

    Essex must be slightly concerned about the number of boundaries at the moment.

    Josh Bohannon collects his first off Sam Cook and the Lancashire total reaches three figures in the next over as Luke Wells hits Simon Harmer for six.

    The home side need another 329 with 73 overs left in the day's play.

    Lewis Hill is seeing it like a pumpkin.

    He launches Mitch Swepson for his second six over cow and then cuts away square to the rope from the next ball to take the visitors into three figures.

    He has 37 off 55. Rishi Patel has 61. Batting bonus points incoming.

    Anuj Dal is in the attack now and Carson drives through cover off the back foot for four.

    He repeats the shot two balls later for four more.

    Coles sweeps Thomson for four more down square leg at the other end and Sussex are hurtling towards the innings 300.

    Max Holden gets away with a thick outside edge between the slips and gully for four.

    The batter is beaten outside off - and this pitch seems to be offering more to the bowlers than yesterday, with a bit of low bounce at times outside off stump.

    Shot! Sam Robson leans into an off drive and picks up a precious four runs off the bowling of Tom Taylor at the other end.

    Robson is squared up, playing and missing the third. An inside edge off the fifth but Robson squeezes the ball out safely on the off side.
