I didn't want to be saying this so early but we're told Ollie Robinson will bat if needed today, having gone off with a back spasm yesterday.

It's understood Robinson is feeling better this morning and is hopeful the spasm isn't as serious as those he suffered last year, in Hobart and in the West Indies.

If England can just bat themselves in today the weather looks ideal for batting.

Width on offer from Scott Boland and Jonny Bairstow thrashes the ball through point for four.

One hand comes off the bat as he played that but the ball still raced away.

Pat Cummins is looking dangerous, he's getting good swing. He's got such an easy action too and hits the area so well.

Pat Cummins has already got one big wicket this morning - three in the innings - and he is looking very dangerous.

The Australia skipper is getting the ball to swing nicely both ways and Jonny Bairstow is grateful for an inside edge as an in-ducker nearly gets through the gate.

Bairstow survives, though, and pinches a single to cover last ball.

If you're just joining us, it's not great news for England. Joe Root was dismissed second ball of the day.

Caught at first slip off Pat Cummins.

It's fine, Stokes can just score another 155 and this time Bairstow can get the runs stolen from him in the last Test and we'll have a nice lead!

  8. Eng 80-4published at 21 overs

Superb delivery from Scott Boland to end the over. It's full enough to draw Ben Stokes forward but it then nips away to beat the edge.

Stokes had added two with a flick through square leg before a no-ball helps England's total tick over again.

Currently waiting to do a skydive so I’ll miss the start of play. Hope to god that we don’t lose any wickets before I come down…if I come down.

    Jonny Charles

Did you even get up before that Jonny?

  10. Eng 77-4published at 20.1 overs

England won't care how the runs come and they get four more as Ben Stokes sends an edge between the slips and gully.

Good ball to start by Scott Boland but, on this outfield, it's four the moment the ball beats the in-field.

    England would have dropped that.

That's better! After Ben Stokes gets off the mark with a single, Jonny Bairstow punches the last ball of the Pat Cummins over through the covers.

It runs away over the practice pitches for four.

Something for the home fans to cheers but a less than ideal start for England with Joe Root gone already.

You thought Joe Root was the man that was going to get England their lead. You just thought the two Yorkshireman knew the wicket and they could do it but now they'll have to try with Captain Fantastic.

    Here we go.

Jerusalem is ringing out across Headingley as Australia make their way onto the field to the typically friendly Yorkshire welcome...

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are a little bit behind them and are greeted by huge cheers as they stride (or sprint in Root's case) towards the middle.

    We're almost ready to go...

Sam Drury for the love of god don't find wicket taking form. Carry on being unthreatening with the ball please!!!!

    Anon

Don't worry, Anon, I've not been a threat with the ball since I was about 13 (if I'm being very generous to myself).

The worry is that I'm no great shakes with the bat either...
