England continue to deal in singles.

There is still plenty of swing for Mitchell Starc - who also tests Moeen Ali out with a bouncer - but he strays too straight last up.

Moeen whips it away fine, it goes quickly but Scott Boland does well to stop it at fine leg. Just one.

Bairstow has unfortunately been a calamity this series. Made mistakes that have cost us in every test. How secure is his place in the team if he doesn't score many runs and drops catches as wicketkeeper?

    Richard

Is it dramatic to say that the Bairstow selection (lack of runs & dropped catches) has cost us the Ashes?

    Connor, Lancashire

How much longer can we persist with Bairstow? Shedding runs both batting and keeping compared to Foakes. Something has to change.

Quite a lot of you have text in saying that Joe Root seems to have a poor record when resuming the next morning after reaching close not out.

CricViz are looking into that for us at the moment, but his average by session is the lowest in the morning.

    Morning: Averages 44.69

    Afternoon: Averages 51.29

    Evening: Averages 60.82

Watchful batting from England at the moment as Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali try to regroup.

Stokes drops and runs into the covers for one, it was also a no-ball - another bonus run for England - but Moeen does the same a few balls later.

That's four overs so far this morning for Pat Cummins. One, maybe two, more left in his spell?

Can we just all admit now that Australia World No 1 and World Test Champions, FOR A REASON! They just know how to win at the moment. Nothing much wrong with us, its just Australia are just that good at the mo.

    Jamie from Brighton

It's time to call it. Australia are just a far better side. What's worse is it's becoming likely that McGrath's 5-0 is on the money.

Moeen Ali comes in at seven and gets off the mark with a clip to deep square leg for one.

After a very tight leave outside off stump, Ben Stokes follows suit.

Mitchell Starc joins Pat Cummins in striking in his first over of the day.

This is the 10th time that Mitchell Starc has dismissed Jonny Bairstow and he has got Ben Stokes out seven times.

Starc has been superb against those two players specifically.

What a start for England. Poor shot from Bairstow, he lost his shape and it's another good catch from Australia. All I know is what I spoke about last night, Root and Bairstow were key.

    Edged and gone!

It's a very wide delivery from Mitchell Starc, Jonny Bairstow goes after it with a big drive and the edge goes quickly to second slip.

It's just above head height but Steve Smith holds on to a very sharp catch.

    England are in big trouble.

There is still plenty of pace and bounce in this pitch and Pat Cummins is getting some good carry through to Alex Carey behind the stumps.

We saw one scuttle through quite low in his previous over but nothing of that sort this time.

Australia haven't had the boundary riders out so far this morning as they look to press home their advantage.

They do have a fine leg in place, though, so Jonny Bairstow flick off his pads just brings him a single.
