Looking at the radar image there are some bright colours which means heavy downpours and some thunderstorms mixed in. We have two distinct bands of showers. The first is what we have at the moment which are moving northwards and they should get through which means a delayed start. We will then have another band later on this afternoon. There may be the odd shower in between, but there will be dry periods.

In response to KDB at 09:58, if you reckon Cook only hit one Ashes six, the answer can't possibly be 525 as it would have to be an answer divisible by 14. Quik mafs.
Ned, Leicestershire
Fair enough, Ned. But how many Premier League titles have you won?

I spoke far too soon. It is hammering it down now.

Answer: 490 Tests.
Cook hit one six in 35 Ashes Tests (a slightly uncharacteristic cut over backward point off the bowling of Ryan Harris at Perth in December 2010). Based on there being two five-Test Ashes series every four years, it would take Alastair 196 years' worth of Ashes cricket to hit 14 sixes.
Stokes is currently level with Kevin Pietersen's 2005 record of 14 sixes in a single Ashes series.
It's time for the answer to today's ZaltzQuiz. George has rather spoilt the surprise... or has he?

ZaltzQuiz: answer can’t be infinite, so he must have hit at least 1 six. So I’ll guess 490 Test matches.
Hoodie
Zaltquiz - it's 490. Sorry, nothing witty to add, it's just the answer.
George
ZaltzQuiz. I think Alistair Cook only scored one six against the Aussies in 35 tests. So just the 490 tests needed to match Stokes’ tally from the last two games!

Tom has been back in touch. He spoke too soon, it's started spitting again.
It's going to be one of those days, folks!

Good news. It’s stopped raining and some of the outer covers are being removed.
Conflicting reports about the weather and what is or is not heading towards Headingley.
It is still raining now. We know that much.

John Jefferis: Zaltzquiz. Pretty sure Cook only ever hit one six against Australia. Seven Ashes series and I think he played in every game during those, so 35 x 14 = 490 I hope.
We'll have the answer for you at 10:30 BST!

We may have some time to kill if this rain persists and what better way to while away half an hour than being listening to the latest TMS Ashes Daily podcast.
You'll hear Jonathan Agnew, Sir Alastair Cook, Michael Vaughan, Glenn McGrath and Andy Zaltzman react to day two of the third Ashes Test at Headingley.
Moeen Ali speaks after he took his 199th & 200th Test wickets, and also Pat Cummins after he took six wickets.
Plus, Jonathan speaks to Yorkshire’s first female President in their 160 year history, Jane Powell.

Would it be 462 Test Matches v Australia for Sir Alastair to match Ben Stokes' haul of sixes in his last two innings?
Gary
Cook Sixes question - a round 500 tests.
Alex, London
Zaltzquiz. About 100 times as many Test matches: 205, which I'm hoping England can get Australia out for today!

I think today is the pivotal day. England will know today what they have to do to stay in the Ashes.
If Australia get too many and it proves beyond England then the Ashes are gone. That would be a real shame because there's been so much build-up, so much excitement about this series.
To go 3-0 would be a massive disappointment. But England have got it in them, they can do it. If they can bowl Australia out for another 100, that's not impossible and would set them a reasonable target to win.

Re Atilla the Hun @ 9.01 - "Attila" was actually a nickname. It meant "Little father" - or, more colloquially, "Daddy". Betcha didn't know that :-)
Andrew in Bristol
I did not, Andrew. Good knowledge. Every day is a school day.

There’s been a huge rumble of thunder as the rain starts to get heavy.
Fans are heading down to the concourses to take cover and the players are heading back to the dressing room.
Interestingly, while the covers are in place, it still doesn't appear to be raining at Headingley and some of the England players are out kicking a football around.
Scrap that, the football is still going on but a number of umbrellas have just popped up as well.

In answer to ZaltzQuiz, I think Cook only ever hit 1 ashes 6, so I’m going for 525 matches.

Nice to have you with us Mr De Bruyne... why are you in London, though? Time to get the gossip column updated.
Very frustrating for England. They'll hope the time lost is kept to a minimum - at this stage, we don't know if we'll lose any but it doesn't look great.
Let's take you back to a sunnier time yesterday evening while we wait for more news. Here is Chris Woakes removing Usman Khawaja to leave Australia four down...
