  1. Floodlights now on at Edgbastonpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 43-4

The floodlights come on in Birmingham as some ugly looking dark clouds drift across from the city centre to loom over Edgbaston.

It coincides with a very big shout as Oliver Hannon-Dalby thinks he has Michael Burgess strangled down legside - but despite the bowler and his 10 fellow fielders a-whoopin' and a-hollerin' around the bat like madmen, umpire Hassan Adnan doesn't agree and adudges that it clipped the thigh pad.

  2. wicket

WICKET Clarke lbw b Quinn 22published at 14:44 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 159-3 v Kent

Joe Clarke's innings comes to an abrupt end as he walks into a straight one from Matt Quinn, who wins the lbw decision and earns Kent their first bowling bonus point.

Notts skipper Steven Mullaney, back in the side after missing the last two Championship games through injury, is out in the middle now alongside Ben Slater.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore b Lawes 59published at 14:43 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 140-7 v Surrey

And now they have removed Tom Kohler-Cadmore!

After so much good work, Kohler-Cadmore gives it away with an attempted drive that is all hands and no feet and he drags a wide one back onto his stumps.

A fourth wicket for Tom Lawes, who now has 4-28.

  4. wicket

    WICKET Aldridge c Latham b J Overton 20published at 14:39 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 138-6 v Surrey

Jamie Overton with the breakthrough against his old county.

He gets one to bounce a touch on Kasey Aldridge and it flies into the bread basket with Tom Latham gobbling it up at second slip.

Surrey are doing a good job here.

  5. Postpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 157-2 v Kent

Joe Clarke has made a lively start, hitting three fours and a six to reach 21 not out while Ben Slater is now in the nervous 90s... eight short of his hundred.

The pair have added 34 since Will Young had to 'leave right now'... a line we'll never tire of using, I'm sure.

  6. HAMPSHIRE ALL OUTpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 120 v Essex

An entertaining finish to the Hampshire innings, with Mohammad Abbas reverse sweeping Simon Harmer for four but then going for a drive over the top and picking out the long on fielder.

That gives Harmer figures of 3-26, while Jamie Porter finishes with 5-37 - and Essex will be more than happy with their work so far, having put the home side in this morning.

  7. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 118-3

Jack Morley gets Emilio Gay driving and the ball flashes to Keaton Jennings at slip.

It goes very quickly and the Lancashire captain cannot cling on.

  8. 50 runs

partnershippublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 113-3

It has been a good spell for Northants since lunch as Emilio Gay and Luke Procter have added 39 runs to take their fourth-wicket stand through to 54.

In their first innings this season, Northants' average score is 174 with a best of 255, so this feels like a crucial partnership.

  9. wicket

    WICKET Turner c A Cook b Harmer 4published at 14:20 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 106-9 v Essex

That's a second wicket for Simon Harmer, with John Turner obligingly prodding the spinner to slip, where Alastair Cook stoops to collect the catch.

Kyle Abbott is still there on 15 and now he's been joined by Mohammad Abbas. Might not be too long before the pair are opening the bowling, you feel...

  10. 50 runs

for Tom Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 121-5 v Surrey

Tom Kohler-Cadmore dabs one into the legside and runs quickly through to bring up his half-century.

It has come off 85 balls and is offering Somerset a ray of hope.

  11. wicket

    WICKET - Holden b Hamza 15published at 14:15 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 31-4 (10.0 overs)

Two wickets each now for Mir Hamza and OHD.

A real bit of misfortune for Max Holden who edges Hamza onto his thighpad and then the ball clips the off stump.

John Simpson is the new main following the fall of the day's 14th wicket.

How long before we start leafing the stat books for games that were all over in one day. This seems to ring bells . . .

  12. Postpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 119-5 v Surrey

Tom Kohler-Cadmore hits a front foot pull off Dan Worrall for a second four in the over.

Kohler-Cadmore probably thinks attack is the best foot forward with five wickets already down.

  13. Holden and Davies repairing the messpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 30-3

Max Holden and Jack Davies have now shared 19 for the fourth wicket, which now makes this the highest stand of the match.

That tops the 16 put on earrlier by Michael Burgess and Ed Barnard, with the last-wicket stand of 12 between Besrs last pair Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Mir Hamza just behind.

  14. 100 runs

up for Northamptonshirepublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 100-3

Emilio Gay nudges one away off Jack Morley to get his team to three figures.

This partnership is now worth a useful 41.

  15. 100 runs

up for Hampshirepublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 100-8 v Essex

A ripple of applause as Hampshire reach three figures - though the locals certainly wouldn't have anticipated seeing their side eight down at this point.

The fact they've actually got to 100 is down to Kyle Abbott, who came down the track to strike Simon Harmer over the top for two boundaries and is 13 not out as he tries to stretch this modest total.

  16. rain stops play

Rain stops play in 'Scarbados'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Yorkshire 113-0 (29 overs) v Durham

No play since lunch at Scarborough.

More Scafell than Scarbados today on North Yorkshire's East Coast.

  17. 100 runs

up for Somersetpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 105-5 v Surrey

Tom Kohler-Cadmore gets a couple off Jordan Clark and that brings up the three figures for Somerset.

They still have so much work to do, though.

Later in the over, Kasey Aldridge squirts one down to a vacant area at deep third for a welcome four.

  18. 50 runs

for Emilio Gaypublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 95-3

A nice drive for three brings up a half century for Northants opener Emilio Gay, the eighth of his first-class career.

It has taken 107 balls with six well-hit fours, but it is providing a good platform for his side to push on.

  19. for Jamie Porterpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 87-8 v Essex

Jamie Porter (Essex)Image source, Rex Features

That's an fifth wicket for Jamie Porter - and arguably his easiest today.

James Fuller takes a big swing, miscues and the ball soars into the waiting hands of Sam Cook at midwicket.

Can Porter pick up these last two Hampshire wickets now?

  20. wicket

WICKET Young c Finch b Arshdeep 21published at 13:55 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 123-2 v Kent

Arshdeep Singh breaks the second-wicket partnership, getting one to leave Will Young and the New Zealander can only nudge it into the gloves of Harry Finch.

Much-needed wicket for Kent, who put the hosts in this morning. Joe Clarke is the new Nottinghamshire batter.
