Jamie Overton is thrown the ball for the first time this morning to bowl against his old county.

With brother Craig in the Somerset team, which brother will come out on top?

In the recent T20 Blast semi-final, Jamie was caught in the deep by Craig as Somerset won by 24 runs.

  2. wicket

WICKET Gubbins c Rossington b Porter 25published at 12:41 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 72-5 v Essex

Hampshire are in real trouble now.

Jamie Porter is back for his second spell, switching ends, and immediately collects his third wicket as Nick Gubbins drives and is caught behind off a thick edge.

Felix Organ emerges to join Liam Dawson and they'll be desperate to at least make sure they get through until lunch.

  3. OHD into double figurespublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60-9 v Middlesex

Oliver Hannon-Dalby now into double figures with a guided four through first slip.

Postpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 60-3

Northants captain Luke Procter is struck a painful blow on the arm as a delivery from Will Williams gets up more than he anticipated.

The physio comes on to treat him because that looks a sore one.

  5. Postpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 66-4 v Surrey

We have an intriguing battle here with Will Jacks bowling to Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

TKC has hit one six off the spinner but any aggression will have to be controlled with Somerset in a spot of bother.

  6. wicket

WICKET Brown c Harmer b Cook 7published at 12:34 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 68-4 v Essex

That's a great catch by Simon Harmer!

He flings himself to his left at second slip and pouches the edge from Ben Brown one-handed, just above the turf.

Deserved wicket for Sam Cook, who's bowled extremely consistently this morning and Essex are on top.

  7. wicket

WICKET Whiteman st Salt b Morley 20published at 12:30 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 59-3

    The spinner strikes!

Jack Morley has a wicket in his second over, but goodness me, Sam Whiteman!

Being positive is one thing, but Whiteman launches a pre-meditated charge down the crease, misses the ball and is stumped by miles.

    That is poor, poor cricket.

  8. 50 runs

Bears get the 50 uppublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 50-9 v Middlesex

Ironic cheers in Brum as Oliver Hannon-Dalby brings up the 50, with a miscued steer for two down to third man.

200 more to go for a first batting point.

  9. 50 runs

Ben Slater completes his third half-century of the campaign, drilling Matt Quinn to the cover fence and then adding three with a straight drive to reach the landmark from 70 balls.

Good knock from the Notts left-hander, who shared that opening stand of 65 with Haseeb Hameed.

  10. What can Rew do today?published at 12:26 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 57-4 v Surrey

The fall of George Bartlett has seen James Rew walk to the crease.

Rew has been the star batter of 2023 with 974 runs, including five centuries.

The wicketkeeper-batter is still only 19, but what a prospect he looks.

  11. wicket

    WICKET - Brookes c Helm b Higgins 1published at 12:26 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 48-9 v Middlesex

Ryan Higgins takes just five balls to get in on the act.

Henry Brookes is the latest to offer catching practice - and Tom Helm takes it safely in the cordon.

Also, at nine down now, this technically delays lunch by half an hour!!!

  12. Bowling changes in Birminghampublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 48-8 v Middlesex

Both the new-ball attack have now been seen off by Warwickshire's ninth-wicket pair.

After seven overs of Toby Roand-Jones, Tom Helm came on - and now Ryan Higgins has ended Ethan Bamber's nine-over stint.

  13. 50 runs

up for Northantspublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 53-2

With two spinners in the side, Keaton Jennings has little option but to turn to them.

Jack Morley is the first to bowl and a short loosener is cracked to the boundary by Sam Whiteman.

That brings up the 50 in the 20th over of the innings.

  14. wicket

WICKET Vince c Rossington b Walter 16published at 12:21 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 59-3 v Essex

Essex have come back well here since the blow of losing Shane Snater to injury.

Sam Cook is back on, bowling a tight line to stem the flow of runs, and left-armer Paul Walter has now picked up the visitors' third wicket of the morning.

Walter slants the ball across Hampshire captain James Vince, who has a nibble and Adam Rossington snaps it up behind the stumps.

  15. wicket

WICKET Hameed lbw b Evison 18published at 12:19 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 65-1 v Kent

Former Notts all-rounder Joey Evison is back at Trent Bridge with Kent and bowling his first over of the match.

Evison's first delivery is a full toss that Haseeb Hameed clouts for four - but he responds three balls later by trapping the opener leg before as he shuffles across.

Will Young comes to the crease to join Ben Slater.

  16. wicket

WICKET Bartlett c Jacks b Lawes 6published at 12:18 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 57-4 v Surrey

This is turning into a dream morning for Tom Lawes and Surrey.

Lawes puts the ball in the right spot again, tempting the drive and George Bartlett's edge flies to third slip.

Bartlett never looked comfortable and he has been put out of his misery.

  17. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 47-0 v Kent

Ben Slater has certainly stepped it up a gear after those first nine meagre overs, when Nottinghamshire managed just nine runs.

The left-hander has advanced to 36 not out, although he just survived an appeal for caught behind off an inside edge against Matt Quinn.

Haseeb Hameed is alongside Slater, with nine to his name.

  18. Postpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 40-3 v Surrey

After seeing Somerset win the toss and deciding to bat, Surrey must be thrilled with this position.

They have two batters on nought and a string of close catchers.

  19. wicket

    WICKET - Barnard b Bamber 14published at 12:07 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 43-8 v Middlesex

Ethan Bamber's fifth career 'five-fer'Image source, Rex Features

Five wickets for Ethan Bamber, for the third time in his career - and four of them have have hit the stumps!

Ed Barnard goes too as the ball moves away and nips the outside of the off stump.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is the new man in, ahead of Mir Hamza in the order. Not sure what that says about either.

But if either of them are still there at lunchtime, then the Bears will have done well.

The Bears’ lowest total against Middlesex is 55 at Lord's in 1955, when they were bowled out inside 26 overs by Alan Moss and JJ Warr. it would actually be a bit of a comparative triumph now getting past that!

  20. wicket

WICKET Dickson c Latham b Lawes 25published at 12:03 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 40-3 v Surrey

The leaders are in big business here!

Sean Dickson had hit the previous two balls for four, but when Tom Lawes produces a bit more bounce, it takes the edge of Dickson's bat.

It flies to second slip where Tom Latham takes it expertly over his head as that was travelling.
