  1. wicket

WICKET Rew c Foakes b Clark 5published at 13:51 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 91-5 v Surrey

That is the wicket Surrey wanted!

Jordan Clark bangs one in and rather than help it legside, James Rew gets it high up in the air.

Ben Foakes can catch pigeons so this is meat-and-drink for him and Rew's pre-lunch resistance is for nothing.

  2. wicket

WICKET - Stoneman lbw b Hamza 9published at 13:51 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 11-3

Jack Davies somehow survives a run-scare (replays showed he was out) and then next ball Mark Stoneman is leg before wicket to Mir Hamza.

That leaves Middlsex 11-3, just as Warwickshire were, two and a half hours ago.

    The carnage continues.

  3. wicket

WICKET Organ lbw b Porter 7published at 13:49 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 86-7 v Essex

Second over after lunch and Jamie Porter picks up where he left off!

Porter claims his fourth wicket as Felix Organ is trapped in front.

Kyle Abbott is the new man in the middle for Hampshire.

  4. wicket

    WICKET - Eskinazi b Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 0published at 13:44 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 9-2

Oh Cripes! Here we go again . . .

Just five balls after the restart, we have our first wicket of the session and 12th of the day as Oliver Hannon-Dalby strikes again.

    Stephen Eskinazi is caught behind.

  5. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 123-1 v Kent

Will Young was clearly impatient to get out there again after lunch at Trent Bridge - he belts the first delivery of the afternoon session, from Bhuiyan Arafat, to the cover boundary.

Young is 21 not out, while Ben Slater has moved on to 80 and must be eyeing the chance of his first century this summer.

  6. Postpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 85-4 v Surrey

The sun is out as the batters return to the crease in Taunton.

Jordan Clark has the ball in hand as Surrey prepare to resume bowling at Division One's leading run-scorer James Rew.

  7. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 9-1

Well what a morning that was!

Ethan Bamber and Toby Roland-Jones were delivered the type of surface they would love to roll up and carry around with them as Warwickshire we skittled inside 23 overs. The ball seamed around but with pace and bounce to add to the dramatic spell.

It's Bamber's best with the ball and the number bowled will be a particular thrill no doubt.

The amount of grass on top will keep it lively for the first day at least so Middlesex, who have had more than their own fair share of batting woes this season, will have their work cut out.

Memory indeed turns to 2011 when Kent were rolled for 87 in the morning and we're back in that evening when a one day finish at one point wasn't an impossibility.

  8. Bazball it isn'tpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 74-3

It has been slow and steady progress for Northamptonshire this morning on the same pitch used for the Ashes Test.

Northants have scored at 2.38, which contrasts sharply with England's thrilling 592 off 107.4 overs at a little over 5.5 runs per over.

To get 592 going at Northants' current scoring would have taken 248 overs, or more than two-and-a-half days' play!

  9. Lunch at Scarboroughpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Yorkshire 113-0 (29 overs) v Durham

Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth (57) and Fin Bean (46) go to lunch unparted.

Their second century partnership in three matches.

  10. Lunch in Derbypublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Glamorgan 107-1 v Derbyshire

    Nick Webb
BBC Radio Wales at the Incora Ground

Glamorgan's Derbyshire-bound captain David Lloyd lost the toss and had to bat on a very green surface.

But he still got the day off to a bright start by smashing sixes over fine leg and square leg in Sam Conners' second over, before edging edged Zak Chappell behind for 19 off 14 balls.

South African batter Colin Ingram, who has been in and out of the side, started with a streaky four but looked assured after that as he reached his first Championship 50 of a stop-start season off 79 balls, while Zain Ul Hassan was his usual steady self at the other end.

Their stand was worth 88 by lunch, when Leus du Plooy must have been wondering about his decision to bowl or whether his seamers ought to have rewarded it more.

Derbyshire are without their prolific batter Wayne Madsen, who was out for a golden duck playing for Italy- the land of his grandmother- in a T20 World Cup qualifier.

  11. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 85-4 v Surrey

Surrey will be very happy with how the morning has gone, claiming four wickets after being forced to field with three for Tom Lawes.

But with Tom Kohler-Cadmore and James Rew at the crease, Somerset have fought hard from 57-4.

With those two together, they will hope to put the pressure back on the leaders.

  12. Lunch at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 79-6 v Essex

Essex are a bowler down after Shane Snater had to be helped from the field with what looked like an Achilles or hamstring injury - but his team-mates have made sure the visitors are very much in control.

Jamie Porter has 3-30, with Sam Cook, Paul Walter and Simon Harmer all picking up a wicket apiece as Hampshire struggled after being put in.

  13. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 74-3

We reach the lunch break at Old Trafford where Northamptonshire have had to battle hard.

They have lost three wickets after winning the toss, and opener Emilio Gay on 35, holds the key to his side's innings.

  14. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Notts 116-1 v Kent

Ben Slater has now shared his second 50 partnership of the morning, steering Joey Evison through the slips for four to reach 78 not out at the interval.

Will Young is alongside him on 16, with Haseeb Hameed the only wicket to fall, leg before to Evison for 18 after Kent won the toss and opted to bowl first.

  15. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

Warwickshire 60 all out, Middlesex 9-1

An extraordinary morning session in Birmingham.

    11 wickets have fallen.

On a greenish track which cannot have been easy to prepare, given the extraordinary amount of bad weather have had of late, Middlesex have made the most of winning the toss.

They have bowled well, and Warwickshire have batted badly.

How much easier the wicket will prove to play on this afternoon following 40 minutes of what looks like lunchtime sunshine remains to be seen.

  16. Rew off the markpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Somerset 85-4 v Surrey

James Rew may be the man of the summer, but he has been patience personified this morning.

He faces 31 balls before he finally gets off the mark off the 32nd one with a lovely clip to deep midwicket for four.

  17. wicket

WICKET Dawson c Porter b Harmer 4published at 12:56 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hampshire 72-6 v Essex

Simon Harmer comes on for the obligatory pre-lunch spell of spin - and does what Simon Harmer tends to do.

Liam Dawson is the sixth Hampshire wicket to fall, top-edging a sweep that sails into the hands of Jamie Porter at long leg.

Very much Essex's morning, to say the least.

  18. Good call, son!published at 12:55 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 66-3

Left-armer Jack Morley has a big appeal as Emilio Gay pads up to a ball that spins from outside off.

The great David Lloyd on BBC Radio Lancashire is certain the umpire made the right call.

And said umpire? That would be Bumble's son and ex-Lancashire batter Graham!

  19. wicket

    WICKET - Robson c Yates b Hannon-Dalby 0published at 12:55 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60, Middlesex 3-1

The 11th wicket of the morning session as Sam Robson departs first ball, edging Oliver Hannon-Dalby to Rob Yates at first slip

It was only OHD's fourth ball of the first over.

Left-armer Mir Hamza to have a crack from the Cannon Hill Park End.

  20. wicket

BEARS BOWLED OUT BY MIDDX FOR 60published at 12:44 British Summer Time 25 July 2023

    Hamza c Simpson b Higgins 6 (Warwickshire 60 all out (22.5 overs) v Middlesex)

Hamza Mir is the last to go, cauight behind, haivng a yahoo.

And this is the lowest Warwickshire total since 1982 - when they were bowled out for just 43 by Sussex in thr second innings, at Edgbaston.

Imran Khan, Garth Le Roux and Chris Waller shared the wickets against a Bears side who were a man short and had Bob Willis batting number eight.
