    Grim.

Only a matter of time before stumps are called here.

  3. Stumps at Cheltenham Collegepublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Worcestershire 265-7 v Gloucestershire

No more play on the first day at Cheltenham, where Worcestershire recovered from a shaky start to reach 265-7 before rain intervened.

Pears captain Brett D'Oliveira is 53 not out, having shared an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 83 with Josh Baker after earlier half-centuries for Gareth Roderick (53) and Matthew Waite (64).

Zaman Akhter picked up three wickets for the home side, with Matt Taylor taking two.

Weather permitting, they'll resume at 11am tomorrow.

WICKET Jones c Tattersall b Thompson 8published at 16:58 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Yorkshire 340 v Durham 42-1

The all-action Jordan Thompson breaks up this opening stand!

With just his second ball, he gets a bit of in-movement and catches the inside edge of Michael Jones, who is caught behind.

After a brisk 54 earlier with the bat, Thompson is one of those players who makes things happen.

  5. Lees is motoringpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Yorkshire 340 v Durham 42-0

Alex Lees is a man in form in 2023.

He has over 1100 runs in Division Two this season at an average 69 with a strike rate of 75 and he is chasing a century in a fourth successive Championship match.

The England selectors would be watching, but after playing all the home Tests in 2022, that ship may have sailed.

He hammers three fours in Matt Fisher's latest over and he already has 34 off 29 balls with six fours.

Wet EdgbastonImage source, Ged Scott - BBC Sport

A grim scene in Birmingham as the Edgbaston groundstaff get out the big covers.

The lights, which have been on since early afternoon, are positively shining now.

The rain is coming down properly, hunched Lowry-like people in hoods are heading home - and even the revered Edgbaston pressroom coffee machine has been switched off and set on its automatic cleaning cycle.

No official announcement yet - but this looks all over for the day.

  7. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 350 v Kent 102-2

And the pattern continues at Trent Bridge, unfortunately... the players won't be emerging just yet.

Dark sky developed into the inevitable rainfall during the tea interval, so no play for now, with Kent having reached 102-2.

  8. Durham don't hang aboutpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Yorkshire 340 v Durham 21-0

Two boundaries in this latest over from Matt Fisher, one each for Alex Lees and Michael Jones.

Durham are running away with Division Two and the main reason is their batting.

They have taken 41 points from ten matches, which is 14 more than the next best.

And the other thing is they bat positively with these openers setting the tempo.

  9. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Yorkshire 340 v Durham 12-0

Durham are up and running thanks to a lovely drive for four from ex-Yorkshire batter Alex Lees.

When Ben Coad offers up a bit of width, Lees helps himself to another boundary.

But he goes for a huge drive off the last ball and is rather lucky not to nick that one behind.

  10. rain stops play

  13. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 350 v Kent 102-2

A fairly even afternoon session, with Kent progressing to 98 for the loss of both openers.

Ben Geddes is still at the crease on 36, having shared a partnership of 59 for the second wicket with Toby Albert, who was caught in the slips off Luke Fletcher for 37.

Jack Leaning started slowly, with just two runs in his first half-hour, but struck two fours off Brett Hutton in the final over before tea to lift his side's total above 100.

  17. ouch!

Postpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 350 v Kent 88-2

Barely a County Championship match goes by without a Nottinghamshire seamer picking up an injury, it seems.

Unfortunately, Luke Fletcher has just hobbled off the field mid-over. It's unclear what the injury is, but he sent down two balls before accepting he'd have to make way for someone else to complete the over.

Brett Hutton, who found himself in a similar situation himself at the Oval earlier this month, takes on that responsibility.

YORKSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 340published at 15:58 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

Yorkshire 340 all out v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Yorkshire are all out in sunny Scarborough.

Jordan Thompson has blitzed his way to a half century off more than a run-a-ball with four sixes, but he holes out at long leg going for another big shot.

A fourth wicket for Matt Potts.

Yorkshire will be pleased with that total after being inserted. Division Two leaders Durham will be satisfied when Yorkshire were 212-3 at one stage.

Durham had taken four wickets in the space of 8.3 overs as they fought back on the second afternoon, after yet another rain delay.

The hosts have three batting points and Durham three bowling points. And after the rain it is now sunny and humid on the North Yorkshire coast.

  19. Tea at Derbypublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Glamorgan 521-8 dec, Derbyshire 95-0

Derbyshire openers Harry Came and Luis Reece are still unparted at tea - and the hosts have redcued the deficit on Glamorgan's first-innings score to 426.
