Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth completes the 32nd first-class century of his career - and his third of the season.

It is also the third time he has raised his bat for a ton at Scarborough.

  2. wicket

WICKET Porter b Dawson 4published at 12:06 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Hampshire 120 v Essex 169-9

To everyone's surprise, Shane Snater is now doing his best Nathan Lyon impression - limping out to the middle with a runner after the fall of the ninth Essex wicket.

Liam Dawson thought he'd finished the innings off with that delivery that pitched and turned to bowl Jamie Porter - but the visitors might still be able to stretch their lead of 49.

  3. Bears battening down the hatchespublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60 & 89-3, Middlesex 199

Warwickshire starting to look a bit more like it. And the Middlesex lead is down to just 50.

Sam Hain looks set on 26, Dan Mousley has quickly forgotten his first-innings duck to move on to 11 - and the Bears appear to be battening down the hatches.

Even the pitch looks a more encouraging colour.

Less tinges of green than seemd the case this time yesterday when Warwickshire were already eight wickets down!

  4. wicket

WICKET Leech st Salt b Morley 13published at 12:01 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 329-7

    Stumped by miles!

After 70 balls of the most watchful batting, Dominic Leech charges down the wicket to Jack Morley.

The bowler sends it wider past Leech's bat and Phil Salt does the rest.

  5. wicket

WICKET Harrison c Compton b Evison 8published at 12:01 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 318-7 v Kent

Ben Compton spilled one in the slips yesterday, but he makes no mistake with this one, crouching to take it low and dismiss Calvin Harrison.

That's a second wicket for former Notts all-rounder Joey Evison - and there are still three available if he fancies a five-for!

  6. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Somerset 170 v Surrey 207-4

Another lovely shot from Tom Latham for four - he brings the touch to Jacks' power.

This partnership is worth 112 and Surrey are motoring this morning with 69 runs in the first hour.

To add to Somerset's woes, bowler Kasey Aldridge has had to limp off the field four balls into an over.

  7. 50 runs

for Will Jackspublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Somerset 170 v Surrey 203-4

Will Jacks with a flamboyant West Indian style shot for four off Shoaib Bashir down on one knee!

Then in Bashir's next over, he smashes another boundary in emphatic fashion.

That sees him get to 53 off 73 balls with 10 fours.

Jacks is such a good cricketer and on this display, he must be on the plane for the five Tests in India at the start of 2024.

  8. Postpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 316-6 v Kent

There's something of a cat and mouse feel at Trent Bridge at the moment, with neither side really appearing to take the initiative.

Nottinghamshire are hanging in there after the departure of Tom Moores, just content to keep the scoreboard ticking over through Lyndon James and Calvin Harrison.

Kent have bowled more consistently so far than they did on day one and will be looking to restrict their hosts to a sub-350 total if possible.

  9. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

A miserable start for Worcestershire, after losing the toss at Cheltenham College and being inserted by Gloucestershire.

    Three wickets down- all ducks.

After the loss of Jake Libby to the fourth ball of the game, to Matt Taylor, the Gloucestershire paceman then struck again in his second over to remove Azhar Ali - and then Kashif Ali followed in the sixth over - an all-Price affair, caught by Ollie off the bowling of brother Tom.

Yorkshire have lost a third wicket this morning at Scarborough, Durham's Ben Raine having removed Ryan Rickelton for 13, but Adam Lyth is still there approaching his century, on 92.

Glamorgan bat on at Derby. Tney have now moved on to 476-7, for the loss of only Chris Cooke for 70.

  10. Postpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Lancashire v Northamptonshire 317-6

James Sales has just struck the first boundary of the morning, straight driving George Balderson.

Northants have picked up only 15 runs from the 11 overs so far.

There are three overs left to get any bonus points, but they don't look in any hurry to reach 350.

  11. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Hampshire 120 v Essex 158-8

Jamie Porter is doing his best to hang around here for Essex - he's survived 17 deliveries so far and is yet to get off the mark, while Simon Harmer tries to eke out this narrow lead a bit further.

Hampshire have brought Mohammad Abbas on after that impressive opening spell from John Turner as they try to wrap up the innings and minimise the deficit they'll face.

  12. Postpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Somerset 170 v Surrey 187-4

A lovely shot from Tom Latham as he guides a ball from Kasey Aldridge down past backward point to the fence.

Latham is now on 83 and Somerset need to see the back of him and quickly.

  13. wicket

WICKET Moores c Albert b Quinn 94published at 11:32 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 301-6 v Kent

There's to be no century for Tom Moores, who lifts his eyes to the heavens in frustration as he departs for 94.

The left-hander falls to Matt Quinn, with the ball flying off an outside edge and straight into the hands of gully.

Both teams now have two bonus points as Calvin Harrison - who has just signed a new contract with Notts - comes to the wicket.

  14. Surrey into the leadpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Somerset 170 v Surrey 173-4

Three boundaries in an over off Matt Henry gets Will Jacks 12 runs and takes his team into the lead.

The last of those is a gorgeous shot through the covers as Jacks reaches 41.

Surrey now lead by three and have a lot of batting in the hutch.

Jim Dale: This pitch at the the Rose Bowl is spicy meatball. #bbccricket

Goodness knows how you would describe the pitch at Edgbaston which currently leads the Rose Bowl 23-18 in wickets?

  16. wicket

WICKET Cook lbw b Abbott 1published at 11:24 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Hampshire 120 v Essex 152-8

Now Kyle Abbott has three wickets as well.

The Hampshire seamer sends down a ball that jags back into Sam Cook and strikes him on the back leg.

It looked pretty plumb and the umpire agreed - so Essex now have last man Jamie Porter striding out with their lead at 32.

  17. wicket

    WICKET - Yates c Simpson b Bamber 26published at 11:19 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60 & 62-3, Middlesex 199

Here we go again! Ethan Bamber carries on where he left off yesterday,

Without further addition to his overnight 26, and having only just got past their first-innings total, Rob Yates edges to wicketkeeper John Simpson, who safely holds on - and Bamber has his second wicket - and seventh scalp of the match.

New man in is Dan Mousley - on a pair.

  18. wicket

WICKET Rossington c Brown b Turner 39published at 11:18 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Hampshire 120 v Essex 151-7

First breakthrough this morning for Hampshire - and John Turner has his third wicket of the innings!

Adam Rossington is on his way, nibbling at one outside off stump and edging behind.

As expected. Shane Snater - who was next in on the scorecard - has not come out to bat, so it's Sam Cook at the wicket and Essex are effectively eight down.

  19. Postpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Notts 281-5 v Kent

Steady start by Nottinghamshire this morning as they edge towards 300 and a second batting bonus point.

Six runs added in the first four overs, with Tom Moores moving on to 77 and Lyndon James with nine to his name.

  20. No wickets yet in Birminghampublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 26 July 2023

    Warwickshire 60 & 58-2, Middlesex 199

A less crazy start to the day in Birmingham.

This time yesterday morning at 11:11, the Bears were 11-3.

Nothing so dramatic this time though.

No wickets in the first three overs - and only one run, a nudge off his hips from Sam Hain.

The sun is out and the sky is blue, with only wisps of white cloud.

Lovely day for batting. As Hain then shows by moving into double figures with a glorious on drive off Toby Roland-Jones.
