    Stokes b Starc 3 (Eng 193-5)

    Bowled 'im! Brilliant delivery.

Ben Stokes was shaping to clip the ball to leg, Mitchell Starc got the ball very full and it nipped away from the left-hander to uproot off stump.

Superb bowling and the England captain is gone.

There has not been one series where a team has not been bowled out for under 220 in the Ashes.

An hour dominated by Moeen Ali.

He got injured, went into T20 mode for a few overs and was then bowled by Todd Murphy.

  4. drinks break

    Eng 193-4published at 38 overs

England deal in singles early in the Todd Murphy over, three of them from the first four balls.

Harry Brook then pushes the ball through extra cover for two - and that's drinks.

  5. Eng 188-4published at 37 overs

After nine dot balls to start, Ben Stokes gets off the mark with a single to leg and immediately signals to the dressing room. He's broken his bat.

The over ends with an edge from Harry Brook but he played with soft hands and the ball falls well short of Steve Smith at second slip.

Change of bowling now. Mitchell Starc comes on to replace Pat Cummins.

His five-over spell cost 31 runs, 29 of them came in just two overs.

For those of you familiar with Heather Knight's bowling action, Todd Murphy's is similar. Flicking his back leg up, a bit like a horse doing dressage.

  8. Eng 186-4published at 36 overs

Todd Murphy gets away with a filthy drag-down to start his over as Harry Brook can only pull it to long leg for one.

The off-spinner then beats Ben Stokes as the England left-hander goes back to cut.

Stokes is down the pitch later in the over but can't get the ball past mid-wicket with his flick. Just one from the over.

  9. Eng 185-4published at 35 overs

A painful one for Ben Stokes to end another testing over from Pat Cummins. The ball nips back and hits the England skipper on the inner thigh.

Had Brook been caught on for five, England would have been 78-4, with England adding a further 106 before losing their fourth wicket.

Moeen Ali might be gone now but he provided plenty of entertainment after he sustained that injury.

It all started with this outrageous six off Pat Cummins...

The fun is over. It's a strange innings. Moeen was initially circumspect, playing a good number three role.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.3 overs

    Moeen b Murphy 34 (Eng 184-4)

    Four and out!

Much better from Todd Murphy, much fuller and with a bit of flight. Moeen Ali tries to swipe it leg side, misses and the ball clatters into leg stump.

Moeen Ali's innings of two halves comes to an end. England will now hope that the physio can get to work on his groin injury and make sure he's OK to bowl.

  16. Eng 184-3published at 33.2 overs

Moeen Ali won't have any problems if Todd Murphy keeps serving those up.

Far too short and the England left-hander swats it through mid-wicket for four.

Interesting move with the floodlights just coming on at The Oval, Todd Murphy is coming on to bowl his off-spin.

Moeen Ali is known to really dominate the spinners in white-ball cricket but will his lack of mobility restrict his ability to score quickly?

That's a terrific shot, it's gone over the keeper's head. He's just guided it for four. It's a stroke of genius, nearly a six. Way above his head. Moeen has bought some joy to this series.

  19. Eng 179-3published at 33 overs

    Brilliant from Moeen Ali!

Short from Pat Cummins again, Moeen arcs his back and ramps the ball over Alex Carey's head - one bounce for four.
