A single apiece for Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.

Australia have only scored 35 runs in this session.

We've been playing for an hour and 45 minutes.

  2. Anderson analysispublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

This is interesting... there are some subtle differences, which may suggest why James Anderson is not getting the success he enjoyed last summer.

  3. Aus 94-2published at 46 overs

    What is that!?!

James Anderson offers Steve Smith some width and he tries to chop it away but misses.

It was a very ugly shot and he's fortunate that he's not edged behind.

Robert Allen: So why’s Bairstow not going for that catch? Amazing take by Root, but that’s a keeper's catch all day.

You're going to want to watch this a few times to appreciate just how good it was.

The smile on Joe Root's face there shows there is no better feeling in cricket than taking a brilliant catch.

Well done Marnus, you batted for nearly 100 balls and put on less than Moeen did with one leg.

Unbelievable catch, he didn't just go to his left, he went a long way to his left. That was Bairstow's catch.

What a catch that is, to his left. Labuschagne is having a mutter there as he walks off. This was a brilliant catch from Joe Root.

    Labuschagne c Root b Wood 9 (Aus 91-2)

    WHAT. A. CATCH.

    Wow. Wow. Wow.

Mark Wood straightens Marnus Labuschagne up and a thick edge flies between Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root at first slip.

It should be Bairstow's catch but he doesn't move at all, and Root has to react late and take a superb one-handed grab to his left.

The ball was almost behind him. Superb.

Marnus Labuschagne scored just eight off his first 75 balls. The last time an Australian had fewer in England off 75 balls was in 1909. Charlie McCartney had 7 off 75 at Headingley.

Usman Khawaja has 37 off 123 balls by the way, and Marnus Labuschagne has nine off 77!

Re Sam @12:12 - No one has said that Australia are playing bad cricket, but you cannot say it's exciting cricket! No doubt Ben will do something weird to change the temperament soon! Gonna fall asleep otherwise.
