A maiden from James Anderson to start with the new ball.
England - and The Oval crowd - would love it if he just ran through the tail here.

Hate the result, but that was great umpiring. When the second bail was off Smith was in his ground. If we'd had another frame he might have been gone.
Phil, Stockport
Here we go.
Should Steve Smith have been given out?
Thumbs up for out, thumbs down for not out.
Trail by 73
Steve Smith repeats the shot and after an umpire check picks up four more.
Beautiful strokes.
Aus 206-7
It's almost inevitable, isn't it?
A fluent flow of the bat brings Steve Smith four down the ground and another half-century.
There's a tiny raise of the bat but he knows he's got work to do.

As much as I hate to flog a dead horse further that's poor keeping from Bairstow again..
Michael from Ripon
Surely that is the nail in Bairstow's wicketkeeping career for England. But for him England would have won this series before this match.
Matt, Lancashire
It is complete negligence that Bairstow is keeping, and hubris from Stokes and Baz that he's still there. England win this series with just an average keeper, let alone the best in world in the form of Foakes.
Anon
A maiden from Joe Root and England have opted to take the new ball.
Stuart Broad is coming on.
Matthew Henry
BBC Sport at The Oval
There are boos at the decision but not too much discontent, compared to what we have seen earlier in the series.

Tidy over from Harry Brook with two singles and a bye coming off it.
One more over until the new ball becomes available.

Adam Wheeler: Absolutely shocking decision. Out.
Nunya Bisnis: That's a SHOCKING decision!
Will Maddock: If we used zing bails that would have been out. Just saying.

Another talking point here, Bairstow's glove just touches the stump before the ball goes in. Australia need Smith to score some quick runs.

People will be talking about this for a while, thank goodness it is a neutral umpire.
After those boos The Oval has settled back into a hum.
That's likely to cause a lot of controversy.
We'll bring you a video clip shortly.

There's no point booing, it's not Steve Smith's fault. It was a brilliant piece of fielding. Fair play to the third umpire for going through that absolutely minutely.
Boos around The Oval, apart from the Australia fans, who are celebrating wildly.
Steve Smith was one frame out when the bails were dislodged but they were disrupted by Jonny Bairstow first, the third umpire deems.
There's a wry smile on Bairstow's face.
Broad is chirping at the umpires.

He has hit the stumps before the ball has got there.

This is such a key moment.
Is the bail in the groove still and then it comes out when Jonny Bairstow gathers and hits the stumps?
This is so, so close.
We've been checking for almost three minutes now.
England have celebrated and Steve Smith was walking off.
But they are looking again.
Has Jonny Bairstow dislodged the bail before he's got control of the ball?
