    Northants 232 v Lancashire 42-1

Ben Sanderson has a face like thunder...

He's nipped one back and thudded into Keaton Jennings' pads before his bat gets there, but there's a shake of the head from the umpire. Was it missing off-stump?

More frustration for Sanderson and skipper Lewis McManus as the next delivery flies through everything and to the rope for four byes.

Just over eight overs remain this evening.

    Surrey 322-4 v Warwicks

An innings of class and maturity by Ben Foakes, who brings up his third Championship century of the season with a push for one off Ed Barnard.

It has taken 161 balls, included 16 fours, and it's his 16th hundred in first-class cricket. Oh yes, and he's gone past 600 Championship runs for the season too.

Partner Cameron Steel ends the over with a boundary - he is 64 not out.

WICKET: Carson c de Leede b Potts 8published at 17:20 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Durham v Sussex 266-9

Matthew Potts has his 48th scalp of the season. Jack Carson cuts a short ball to point where Bas de Leede takes the catch and Durham need one more to finish Sussex off.

Six overs and change remaining. Would Durham even want to bat for a few overs tonight?

  7. Division Two updatepublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

Ben Coad strikes at Scarborough, having Harry Came caught behind for nought, and Derbyshire are 0-1, replying to Yorkshire's 297 all out.

Leicestershire are going along nicely, having bowled out Gloucestershire for just 159. They are 43-1 in the ninth over and Rishi Patel is 26 not out.

  8. Postpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Surrey 316-4 v Warwicks

Off drive by Ben Foakes. Four runs. He's 99 not out. If he wasn't pencilled in for winter touring activities with England, surely he is now.

  9. wicket

WICKET Allison b Harris 37published at 17:13 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Worcs 275-8 v Glamorgan

Ben Allison was looking well set for a debut 50 - but it's not to be as he swings at a widish delivery from James Harris and drags it back onto his stumps.

That ends Allison's partnership of 64 with Brett D'Oliveira and it's a third wicket for Harris. Two more for Glamorgan to get, with Joe Leach marching to the middle now and nine overs remaining tonight.

  10. Postpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Northants 232 v Lancashire 26-1

Keaton Jennings might have just produced the on-drive of the day, and that's saying something given what Emilio Gay was doing before lunch.

A delicious meaty punch back past Ben Sanderson all the way to the ropes takes him into double figures.

  11. Postpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Durham v Sussex 264-8

Jack Carson produces a gorgeous cover drive to an over-pitched delivery from Matthew Potts to find the rope. He has seven. His side have 264. Just 36 more needed for a second bonus point, but only two wickets in hand now.

  12. Raine reaches 50 wicketspublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Sussex 260-8 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Ben Raine is the leading wicket-taker in Division Two and has now reached 50 wickets in a Championship season for the third time. He did it with the sixth delivery of the second new ball, as he had Tom Alsop caught behind on 59.

Alsop punched the air in anger at himself as Raine set him up nicely, with line and length followed by a ball which was wide of off-stump and tempted him into a drive.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice soon followed him back to the pavilion, hooking Matthew Potts straight to Graham Clark at long leg on 31. Aristedes Karvelas then fell second ball, lbw to Raine for four.

Durham have fought back well after Sussex were 110-0 after 33 overs. Tom Haines made 51 and Tom Clark 58.

  13. 50 runs

partnership for D'Oliveira and Allisonpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Worcs 265-7 v Glamorgan

It's been an impressive fightback by Worcestershire, who were reeling at 33-3 and then 110-6.

Ben Allison has looked accomplished, pulling both Jamie McIlroy and James Harris for fours just now as he and Brett D'Oliveira bring up the 50 partnership.

Allison, who's making his Pears debut on loan from Essex, is 30 not out with the skipper on 68.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Wells lbw b Sanderson 8published at 17:00 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Northants 232 v Lancashire 11-1

    The breakthrough for Northants.

Luke Wells took a big step across towards off-stump and then tried to flick Ben Sanderson's delivery into the legside infront of his pads... the only thing missing was his bat.

Wells trudges off but can have no complaints. Josh Bohannon joins Keaton Jennings at the crease.

  15. wicket

WICKET Fuller lbw b Brooks 27published at 17:00 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Hampshire 226-7 v Somerset

The new cherry bears fruit for Somerset, in only its second over.

Jack Brooks swings it in to James Fuller, who's trapped shuffling across the stumps and that's pretty plumb.

Hampshire are still 24 short of a batting bonus point as Keith Barker comes out to join Liam Dawson, who's unbeaten on 76.

  16. 50 runs

for Cameron Steelpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Surrey 310-4 v Warwicks

Surrey have their second batting point - and now they have their fourth half-centurion of the innings.

It wasn't an elegant shot by Cameron Steel, who could barely reach a wide one from Chris Rushworth, but managed to make good enough contact to send it down to third man for four.

His 50 took 87 balls and he adds another four with a flick down to fine leg. His stand with Ben Foakes is now worth 123.

  17. new ball

Somerset take new ballpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Hampshire 222-6 v Somerset

Just as you think Somerset are seizing control, the home side come up with a useful partnership and Liam Dawson and James Fuller have done just that, adding 50 so far.

So the new ball will be welcome for Somerset and Lewis Gregory, who's already picked up two wickets today, is going to be given first use of it.

  18. Division Two updatepublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

Leicestershire have lost their first wicket, with Sol Budinger bowled by Gloucestershire's Josh Shaw for three. Rishi Patel is eight not out and has now been joined by Lewis Hill.

Yorkshire have been bowled out for 297 by Derbyshire, narrowly missing out on a second batting point.

Ben Coad was caught behind off George Scrimshaw - Brooke Guest's sixth catch of the innings - with Matthew Fisher unbeaten on 37 off 22 balls.

    Durham v Sussex 260-8

The collapse continues. Ben Raine has No51.

Ari Karvelas plays across the line and is thumped on the pad dead infront.

Jaydev Unatkat, the 31-year-old Indian Test bowler, is the new man for Sussex, making his debut in English cricket.

  20. wicket

    WICKET: Hudson-Prentice c Clark b Potts 31published at 16:52 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Durham v Sussex 255-7

Matthew Potts bangs in a short one which Fynn Hudson-Prentice cannot resist trying to hook... only to send it straight down the throat of Graham Clark at long leg. He didn't have to move.

He's fallen into another trap. Another soft dismissal.

Ari Karvelas is the new man.
