  1. Division Two updatepublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

Leicestershire decide to give new signing Umar Amin a couple of overs just before tea and he has Josh Shaw lbw for eight in the second of them.

The home side well on top now and looking to clean up the Gloucestershire tail in short order.

  2. Tea at Scarboroughpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Yorkshire 209-6 v Derbyshire

An excellent day so far for Derbyshire all-rounder Anuj Dal at Scarborough.

He has Matthew Revis caught behind in the penultimate over before tea and has figures of 4-54 from 17 overs.

New batter Dom Bess hits a boundary off Sam Conners in the next as Yorkshire add 111 during the session for the loss of four wickets, and partner Jonny Tattersall remains on 41 not out.

  3. Tea at New Roadpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Worcs 202-6 v Glamorgan

Logan van Beek and Brett D'Oliveira have hauled Worcestershire back into contention after they slumped to 110-6, with Jamie McIlroy claiming three wickets for the visitors.

Van Beek has just reached a debut half-century, with D'Oliveira on 39 to share an unbroken partnership of 92.

  4. Tea at Wantage Roadpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Northants 201-7 v Lancashire

Sam Whiteman led a charmed life at the crease but when he eventually departed for an eye-catching 79 you could see how delighted Lancashire were.

Lewis McManus has just cracked Tom Hartley for a four and three to bring up the 200, but that's about the only good news.

They were 77-1 at one stage but the hosts go into tea seven down and still 49 runs away from adding to their meagre haul of three batting bonus points in 10 matches.

  5. Tea at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Hampshire 164-5 v Somerset

It's been an attritional session, with tight bowling and fielding by Somerset restricting the home side's ability to score.

Nick Gubbins missed out on what would have been a gritty half-century when he was bowled for 49 by off-spinner Shoaib Bashir - the third wicket to fall in the afternoon.

But Liam Dawson has given Hampshire some impetus with an unbeaten 43 and Ben Brown is there alongside him, with four to his name.

  6. Parkinson shines for Durhampublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Durham v Sussex 198-4 - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex commentator

A good session for Durham, taking four wickets, with three of them to the leg-spin of Matt Parkinson.

Having reached 110 without loss and Tom Haines and Tom Clark having reached half centuries, Sussex then lost four wickets for 43 to a mixture of poor shots and a magnificent catch by Parkinson to dismiss Haines.

Ollie Carter and Tom Alsop have added an unbeaten 45 for the fifth wicket, and on a pitch already offering some turn and uneven bounce every run could be vital in a game that Sussex will feel they need to win to keep their promotion hopes alive

  7. 50 runs

for Logan van Beekpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Worcs 200-6 v Glamorgan

Not a bad way for Logan van Beek to mark his County Championship debut for Worcestershire!

The all-rounder brings up a half-century from 73 balls, taking a boundary off Ben Kellaway - his 10th overall - and lift the Worcestershire total to 200 at the same time.

Good fightback by Van Beek and Brett D'Oliveira, who have now added 90 for the seventh wicket.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Broad c Salt b Balderson 6published at 15:25 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Northants 194-7 v Lancashire

Justin Broad is not happy. He turned his back as Lancs appealed for a catch behind but turns back to see the finger up and seems to let the official know his thoughts on the matter.

George Balderson wasn't particularly vociferous in his appeal, if that means anything!? His short delivery flew up at Broad who tried to play a back-foot defensive shot.

Tom Taylor heads out to the middle. The last recognised batter joins Lewis McManus.

  9. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Surrey 224-4 v Warwickshire

Surrey were 111-2 at lunch and the afternoon has followed a very similar pattern, but with three more runs added.

Ben Foakes dabs Will Rhodes for a single to reach 50 off 72 balls, but the dismissal of Dom Sibley may still be playing on his mind.

Sibley was run out for 65, with Foakes unwilling or unable to answer his call for a single, after the pair had added 57 for the fourth wicket.

  10. Tea at the Riversidepublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Durham v Sussex 198-4

Matt Parkinson's introduction after lunch has changed the game.

Both Tom Clark and Tom Haines made half-centuries but Parkinson's quickfire treble, which might have become a fivefer, given some narrow misses, has put the Division Two champions elect on top after the visitors were 110 without loss.

Tom Alsop has 46 and looks key to Sussex's push for a decent bonus point haul.

  11. Division Two updatepublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

James Wharton drives loosely at Anuj Dal and the Derbyshire seamer has his third wicket at Scarborough.

Wharton made 58 and Yorkshire are now 200-5 in the 61st over.

Gloucestershire are 133-6 after 58 against Leicestershire, with Harry Tector running Wiaan Mulder down to third man for four in the latest.

  12. ouch!

    Worcs 179-6 v Glamorgan

Worcestershire's seventh-wicket pair are starting to drag this back into their favour and there's another setback for the visitors as opening bowler Timm van der Gugten pulls up with an injury mid-over.

Van der Gugten has to go off, with James Harris completing the over, and Glamorgan - having reduced their opponents to 110-6 - would dearly like to break this stand between Brett D'Oliveira and Logan van Beek before tea.

  13. Postpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Durham v Sussex 188-4

Matt Parkinson is turning it square. Wow. He's delivered that to Oli Carter, pitching outside leg stump and it's bit into the surface and ended up fizzing wide of off-stump and even evades keeper Ollie Robinson.

Obligatory gardening ensues from Carter to make sure there is not some massive jagged rock buried in the track which has caused the ball to move that much.

Carter has 19 with Tom Alsop on a steady 43.

  14. 150 runs

up for Hampshirepublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Hampshire 150-5 v Somerset

Liam Dawson would have been very unfortunate to be given out to that bump-ball catch by Jack Brooks, but he'd have had only himself to blame if he'd been run out just now.

Dawson pushed Neil Wagner behind square and set off, but was sent back by Ben Brown and dived desperately as Tom Abell took a pot shot at the stumps. A direct hit would probably have sent Dawson on his way.

In between those close calls, the all-rounder's played a couple of nicely square-cut fours to move on to 32 not out.

  15. 50 runs

for James Whartonpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Yorks 187-4 v Derbys

James Wharton has been short of runs in red-ball cricket this season, but he's down the track to Alex Thomson and there is his second half-century of the Championship campaign.

It's taken him 102 balls and he follows it by sweeping the next away for the ninth boundary of his innings.

His partnership with Jonny Tattersall is now worth 58.

WICKET: Zaib b Balderson 31published at 15:06 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Northants 180-6 v Lancashire

Another pretty soft dismissal if truth be told. Saif Zaib has shown some lovely flashes but this time he has pushed loosely at one from George Balderson which is always coming back from outside off and smashes into his stumps.

Those batting bonus points suddenly look a long way off.

Justin Broad and Lewis McManus is the new pairing - they are both on nought with seven overs until tea.

  17. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Surrey 208-4 v Warwicks

Cameron Steel flashes wide of the slips off Oliver Hannon-Dalby and finds the third man boundary.

Three balls later, he drills a full delivery down the ground. A much better stroke and it's four more.

  18. Division Two updatepublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

Leicestershire have their second bowling point as Tom Scriven has Zafar Gohar caught behind to leave Gloucestershire 120-6. Scriven now has 3-19 from 12.3 overs.

Just a leg bye from the latest Alex Thomson over at Scarborough, where Yorkshire are 174-4 after 56, having been asked to bat first by Derbyshire.

  19. 200 runs

up for Surreypublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Surrey 200-4 v Warwicks

Spinner Danny Briggs drops a fraction short and Ben Foakes has time and room to square cut for four as Surrey's total reaches 200.

The recent dismissal of Dom Sibley was a setback, but the Division One leaders can be reasonably content with their batting efforts so far after being put in this morning.

  20. Postpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

    Surrey 191-4 v Warwicks

OHD thinks he's got Ben Foakes but umpire Steve O'Shaughnessy spurns his lbw appeal.

Foakes then dabs the Warwickshire paceman to third man for four before clipping the final ball of the over through the leg-side for another.

He is now 40 not out.
