So Leicestershire need 168 for what would be their third Championship win of the season.

Wiaan Mulder hits Luke Charlesworth on the rear pad and that is his second wicket of the morning, giving the South African figures of 4-61.

The One-Day Cup finalists have a game in hand on the top three in Division Two, so they are still very much in the promotion picture.

Interestingly the visitors have requested the heavy roller to be used before they begin their reply.

Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson head out. Jamie Porter will take the opening over for Essex, who might feel their total was under-par.

We'll see what the pitch does.

The play this morning has settled into a similar pattern to yesterday evening, with Hampshire content to plod along, and slowly but surely bat Somerset out of the game.

However, when Jack Brooks strays onto Fletcha Middleton's pads, the Hampshire opener whips him confidently through midwicket for the first boundary of the day.

Middleton moves on to 37, and the lead is now 221.

    EIGHT FOR JOSH DE CAIRES.

8-106 from 39.2 overs. He's holding on to that ball as the sides head off, and rightly so.

Sam Cook can only glance his lofted delivery to Ryan Higgins at slip and the Essex innings is over.
