Er, Pat Brown won't bat just yet.

The umpires have taken another light meter reading and we're off.

Just four balls in the session. Four!

Not without incident though, as Gloucestershire grabbed a third bowling point off the last ball of the 110th over and Ed Middleton has his first wicket at first-class level.

  4. No play today at Edgbastonpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Northants 250, Warwickshire 142-4

    It's official!

That is it for the day in Birmingham.

Umpires Rob Bailey and Neil Pratt went out for an inspection, took a look at the wicket, the outfield, the depressing sky over the city centre and the falling drizzle, then went back in to have a quick think - and they have now called it off.

So there will be no play today at Edgbaston.

    Glos 377 v Derbys 398-9

Well, here's the strategy laid bare.

Ed Middleton is round the wicket and Watt aims a flashing drive outside off and inside edges to square leg for no run.

Got hold of it this time! Driven through cover for four.

The field is spread deep with five on the boundary.

Down the pitch...missed, fumbled and then stumped by James Bracey!

That's Ed Middleton's first wicket in first-class cricket and Gloucestershire have a third bowling point.

The last batter is Pat Brown...

    Yorkshire 500, Glamorgan 273 & 35-2

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Yorkshire are eight wickets short of victory in Cardiff after forcing Glamorgan to follow on 227 runs in arrears, with Matt Revis claiming a first-innings five-wicket haul and Ben Coad also causing havoc in the home ranks.

The new ball did the trick in style after lunch, as Coad trapped Dan Douthwaite lbw for 37 with his first delivery, then produced a jaffa to bowl James Harris off-stump next ball.

But the visitors changed the bowling and opted for some ill-advised tactics as the 10th-wicket pair of Andy Gorvin (47) and Jamie McIlroy (30 not out) were able to settle in and then prosper for career-bests.

Both hit their first sixes in the first team in a stand of 56 to bring an unexpected bonus point, before Revis cleaned up Gorvin's stumps to celebrate his five-for.

With 145 overs to win the match, Yorkshire made early inroads second time round as Coad had Zain Ul Hassan caught at slip without scoring and Colin Ingram (14) edged Bess to slip.
