    Glos 377 & 159-6 v Derbys 403

Ed Middleton is playing a useful hand here for Gloucestershire.

He gets his third four with a lovely late push down the ground off the bowling of Pat Brown.

The waters feel a little calmer at Bristol since the hosts lost 3-27 after lunch.

Can Lancashire prize another one out before tea at 3:10?

Stevie Eskinazi drives Luke Wood into the off side for a single.

Jack Davies blocks a full toss from Wood and ducks under a bouncer next ball.

Luke Wood is really steaming in here, bowling with two slips but this Middlesex pair are holding firm for now.

WICKET Hutton run out (Nijjar/Chahal) b Nijjar 84published at 14:51 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 265 & 328-8

The breakthrough. Out of nowhere. A calamitous run-out is the end for Brett Hutton who sets off for a run after Joe Clarke clips into the leg side.

Yuzvendra Chahal fires in a wide throw which Aron Nijjar does superbly to catch and dive to break the stumps before Hutton can get back to his crease.

A career-best knock and he gives Clarke a hug on the way by to absolve him of any blame.

The lead is 147. Kent have life.

Dane Paterson joins Clarke seeking to take their hope away.

for Ben Coxpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

    Sussex v Leicestershire 448-6 - target 499

A maiden first-class half-century for Leicestershire, brought up with a thick edge off Jaydev Unadkat.

That's Cox's first fifty since he made one against Leicestershire in May 2022.

The on-loan Worcestershire gloveman is going a long way towards keeping his new side in the promotion race against his parent club.

    Awkward.

Job is still not done though.

    Sussex v Leicestershire 444-6 - target 499

The reason we're all frantically scrabbling for stats is because this was not supposed to happen.

Leicestershire's incredible 392-7 on the final day at Headingley in May was their third highest ever fourth innings total. The best was 394-7 at Grace Road in 1947.

They are in uncharted territory. They need 55 runs to win.

    What a match.

    Glos 377 & 155-6 v Derbys 403

Ed Middleton gets a gift of a ball from Pat Brown which spears towards leg stump - and the new Gloucestershire number eight is forward, glancing it in front of square for four runs.

The seventh-wicket partnership is worth 24 and the hosts lead by 129.

  9. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 265 & 320-7

Kent are crowding the bat with six close fielders at Canterbury, increasingly desperate for a breakthrough.

    Lancs 413 v Middx 194 & 91-3

Luke Wood is bowling over the wicket to Stevie Eskinazi, who leans back to sway out of the way of a bumper and is struck on the shouder.

The ball runs away for a bye, or leg bye as adjudged by the umpire.

He hasn't even flinched. Looked painful from here though.

45 overs left in the game.

    Glos 377 & 150-6 v Derbys 403

The 50th over of the innings is a productive one for Gloucestershire, who pick up 12 runs.

Graeme van Buuren is back and across, pulling a short ball from Alex Thomson square for four.

A single apiece off the second and fourth ball and Ed Middleton is forward, swinging in front of square leg side for four more.

Two more singles to Graeme van Buuren off the last ball.

    That's the innings 150.

  12. 100 runs

partnership for Leicestershirepublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

    Sussex v Leicestershire 440-6 - target 499

Ben Cox has 45, Tom Scriven has 77.

They need 59 to complete the third highest run chase in the history of the County Championship.

If they get close enough and bring it up with a boundary it could become the highest fourth innings total in Championship history and possibly the second highest ever in England, behind Cambridge University's 507 at Lord's in 1896.

    They couldn't, could they?

  13. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

Warwickshire 45-5 (chasing 176 to beat Northants)

A chance goes begging as Worcestershire-bound Tom Taylor has Michael Burgess dropped at third slip by Hassan Azad.

A tough chance. One handed, to his left. But still a missed chance.

And that is then followed by a big shout against Burgess in the next over, from skipper Luke Procter, in his first over after coming on to replace the heroic Ben Sanderson.

  14. Postpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

    Lancs 413 v Middx 194 & 89-3

Jack Davies moves to 21 with a lovely flowing front foot drive through the off side for four runs off Luke Wood.

    64 to win.

    They couldn't, could they?

And now Zafar Gohar has gone.

Gloucestershire six down and in danger of a defeat that looked highly unlikely this morning.

Another batter falls to the sweep - this one top edged to Pat Brown at square leg.

Alex Thomson has his fourth wicket.

Ed Middleton is in at number eight for the hosts.

    The lead is 128.

  20. Postpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 13 September 2023

Tom Scriven has swept his way to 67, one shy of his first-class best, and the runs required is down to 80. Ben Cox playing a fine anchor role with 35 at the other end.

    They couldn't, could they?
