Kohler-Cadmore off the mark in stylepublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 320-3 v Kent

Well, don't bother playing yourself in!

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is forward to Jack Leaning, driving the ball into the top tier of the pavilion for six.

    It's only his second ball!

  2. wicket

WICKET Azhar c Bedingham b Coughlin 25published at 12:05 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcs 179-4 v Durham

Azhar Ali won't want to spend time contemplating that shot - but he's going to have opportunity to do just that as rain stops play at New Road immediately following his dismissal.

The Pakistani attempted some sort of uppercut, but only succeeded in giving David Bedingham batting practice.

Three wickets so far for Durham, who are moving inexorably towards the Division Two title.

No news yet on whether Adam Hose - who doesn't wear an armguard - will be able to resume his innings after being struck by a ball from Coughlin.

  3. Division Two updatepublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

A magnificent spell for Yorkshire by George Hill, who has 3-20 after trapping Umar Amin lbw with the final ball of the 19th over against Leicestershire, who are 70-4.

Tom Clark is 31 not out for Sussex, who are 57-3 in the 22nd over after being put in by Derbyshire following two days of watching the rain.

  4. wicket

WICKET Umeed c Finch b Leaning 49published at 12:03 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 310-3 v Kent

One over after bringing up the 100 partnership for the third wicket with Lewis Goldsworthy with a lofted drive down the ground off Daniel Bell-Drummond, Andy Umeed is out.

He's stuck on the crease to Jack Leaning and squared up in defence, edging behind to Kent keeper Harry Finch.

The new Somerset batter is Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

  5. wicket

WICKET Jennings lbw b Mullaney 42published at 12:02 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Lancs 88-2 v Notts

As the saying goes, one brings two - and now both Lancashire openers are back in the changing room.

Keaton Jennings prods forward tentatively at Steven Mullaney, with bat tucked in next to his pad, but the umpire rules that ball struck pad and not bat and upholds the Notts captain's appeal.

Two new men at the crease now for the Red Rose, with Steven Croft joining Josh Bohannon.

    Surrey 33-1 v Northants

    Dom SibleyImage source, Rex Features

Great shot by Dom Sibley, who is forward and driving Tom Taylor through wide mid on for four runs.

Luke Procter is in the attack now. Jack White was off the filed briefly this morning but has now returned.

  7. wicket

WICKET Miles b Murtagh 29published at 11:59 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 v Warwicks 296-8

    Six wickets for Tim Murtagh!

Middlesex needed another badly - and he was the most likely of their bowlers to oblige, with Craig Miles giving him the charge but misjudging the pace of the delivery.

The inevitable clatter of bails and stumps send Miles on his way. Warwickshire lead by 175 as Olly Hannon-Dalby strides to the crease.

  8. Hose retires hurt as Durham look to seal titlepublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcestershire 177-3 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Only 27 overs were possible in Worcester on day one, while day two was wiped out, so it was a pleasure to wake up this morning and see the ground bathed in bright sunshine.

Durham could wrap up the second-division title today. They need five points to make sure. However, Worcestershire are second, so if they can bowl them out for less than 400 and restrict them to only three batting points it will be job done.

Two wickets have fallen today and Adam Hose has just retired hurt after being hit on the hand by Paul Coughlin, only the second delivery he faced.

On this day seven years ago Durham beat Hampshire at The Rose Bowl and believed they had relegated their opponents. However The ECB had other ideas and sent Durham down instead over financial issues.

It was a controversial moment in English cricket. It would be apt if Durham could wrap up the title on the anniversary of that fateful game.

  9. wicket

WICKET Wells b Fernando 28published at 11:56 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Lancs 84-1 v Notts

That's what Asitha Fernando was looking for this morning - the sight of middle stump rocking back!

Luke Wells is the man to go, trying to hit Fernando on the leg side. He misses and the ball careers into his stumps, ending this lively opening partnership of 84.

Josh Bohannon makes his way out to join Keaton Jennings in the middle.

  10. Somerset reach 300 at Tauntonpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 300-2 v Kent

Jack Leaning is into the attack and the second ball of the Kent captain's third over is smashed over long on by Andy Umeed for six.

Great shot, with the batter dancing down the track.

He gets a single off the next ball and Lewis Goldsworthy brings up the Somerset 300 in the 75th over with a tidy front foot drive through cover.

    Two batting points for Somerset.

  11. wicket

WICKET Burns c Gay b Taylor 11published at 11:51 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 26-1 v Northants 357

Tom Taylor is angling the ball in to Rory Burns and getting it to straighten, but the Surrey captain is solidly behind the line.

Out this time! Edged and taken by at second slip!

Great catch, taken low by Emilio Gay with third slip diving towards him.

The new batter is Ryan Patel.

  12. wicket

WICKET Haynes b Coughlin 35published at 11:48 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcs 172-3 v Durham

That is a loose shot by Jack Haynes, airily driving at a full ball from Paul Coughlin which may have swung in a little, and his stumps are rearranged by the Durham seamer.

That is the first point for promoted Durham - who need a maximum of five from this game to clinch the Division Two title.

Adam Hose is the new batter and drives his first ball square for four. A confident shot, but he was reaching for it.

  13. 100 runs

100 for Lewis Goldsworthypublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 290-2 v Kent

    Lewis GoldsworthyImage source, Getty Images

Daniel Bell-Drummond bowls over the wicket to Lewis Goldsworthy, who plays and misses outside off.

But the next ball is glanced leg side behind square for four and there's the century!

It's only the second first class ton of his career and his first of the season.

177 balls with a dozen fours.

  14. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 76-2

Paul Walter isn't quick enough to bowl that short to James Vince.

Hampshire's captain is off the mark with four runs, the ball pulled away to square leg with some authority.

  15. Postpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 v Warwicks 290-7

With Ryan Higgins off the field injured, Middlesex have exhausted all their bowling options this morning - and, as so often, they've turned to Tim Murtagh.

Murtagh already has five wickets on his Lord's farewell and the home side need more from him, so he's been brought back for his second spell of the day.

No joy so far for the veteran, though, with Craig Miles smoking a half-volley to the cover boundary as Warwickshire continue to pile on the runs.

Miles is 26 not out, with Danny Briggs just six short of what would be only the second first-class century of his career.

  16. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcs 170-2 v Durham

Since taking the wicket of Jake Libby, Durham have sent down too many four balls for their liking.

There's another from Bas de Leede which Jack Haynes lifts over mid-wicket to bring up a 50 partnership with Azhar Ali.

  17. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 25-0 v Northants

First bowling change of the innings.

Tom Taylor is coming on for Ben Sanderson.

He starts his spell with a maiden.

Dom Sibley is again hit on the pad by Jack White and a more muted LBW appeal is turned down. A bit of inside edge there, perhaps?

The fourth ball is very full and clipped down to fine leg for one.

A leg side ball is turned away to square leg by Rory Burns for four.

  18. Postpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 277-2 v Kent

Four more runs for Lewis Goldsworthy, who drives Bhuiyan Arafat through cover to move on to 97.

Remember, this is his first game in the Championship this season.

He'll have a point to prove here.

Four runs to Andy Umeed at the other end with a flashing drive off Daniel Bell-Drummond, edged well wide of the keeper and down to third man.

Nothing Harry Finch could've done about that. No slip in place!

  19. wicket

WICKET Gubbins c Critchley b Harmer 1published at 11:41 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 71-2

He is so dangerous on a helpful pitch.

Simon Harmer's first ball to Nick Gubbins turns enough to take the edge of a defensive bat and Matt Critchley takes the catch at gully.

Hampshire now under pressure following a 68-run opening stand, but Fletcha Middleton is 30 not out and has now been joined by captain James Vince.

The Foxes are 59-2 after 13 overs with Umar Amin now having joined Sam Evans in the middle.

Sussex are 41-3 after 15 against Derbyshire, with James Coles the latest to depart, edging Anuj Dal to the keeper.
