    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 141-5

    What are Hampshire doing?

Three wickets in successive overs for Essex as Liam Dawson sweeps fellow spinner Simon Harmer to Jamie Porter, jogging back from square leg.

Very poor shot. The ball was well outside off stump and he top edged trying to 'fetch' it to leg.

  2. wicket

WICKET Goldsworthy c Leaning b Singh 122published at 12:34 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 394-4 v Kent

One over after Tom Kohler-Cadmore drives down the ground and launches Bhuiyan Arafat into the upper tier of the pavilion for an eighth six, Kent have a breakthrough.

Lewis Goldsworthy miscues a drive off Jas Singh and hits the ball straight to Kent captain Jack Leaning at cover.

The new batter is a young man called James Rew.

He's had a pretty good season...

  3. wicket

WICKET Sudharsan c McManus b Procter 3published at 12:31 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 49-3 v Northants

Not a happy debut innings for Sai Sudharsan.

He tries to sway out of the way of a Luke Procter bumper and gets an edge off the shoulder of the bat through to Northants keeper Lewis McManus.

Surrey are in real bother here.

  4. 50 runs

    50 for Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 388-3 v Kent

Spectacular. He appears to be getting his eye in for England ODI duty.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is back and across, launching Bhuiyan Arafat over mid wicket for six!

His 50 comes in 27 balls with no less than SEVEN sixes and a solitary four.

  5. wicket

WICKET Vince c Westley b Critchley 46published at 12:30 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 138-4

Suddenly, it's giveaway time at Chelmsford.

Having swished the first ball of Matt Critchley's over for four, James Vince goes for another big one, gets right underneath it, and Tom Westley takes the catch at long-off.

Good job Surrey can't see what has happened in the last few minutes. They won't want Hampshire giving Essex any freebies.

  6. 6 runs

Kohler-Cadmore punishes Kentpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 382-3 v Kent

Enjoy this while it lasts. The clouds are gathering...

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is forward to Jas Singh, driving the bowler down the ground for six.

Bhuiyan Arafat is dealt with even more spectacularly, with a swing over mid-wicket and out of the carpark!

    That's his sixth six.

Four more lofted over long on and that takes him to 49...

  7. wicket

WICKET Middleton b Harmer 48published at 12:25 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 134-3

Fletcha Middleton misses out on a fifth half-century of the season.

He tries a slog sweep, but the ball spins back between bat and pad and that is Simon Harmer's second wicket of the morning.

Call it the impetuosity of youth, or the skilful application of experience, depending on whether you are a Hampshire or Essex follower.

That's better by James Vince, who times the shot superbly as he lofts Matt Critchley's leg-spin away for six.

Critchley drops the next one short and Vince slashes it away to third man for four.

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 123-2

  10. Division Two updatepublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

It's been a good morning for Derbyshire keeper Brooke Guest, who has taken five catches so far as Sussex have stumbled to 61-5.

One-Day Cup final hero Harry Swindells is now at the crease for Leicestershire, who are 80-4 after 23 overs, having bowled out Yorkshire for 155.

  11. wicket

    WICKET Patel c J Broad b Procter 5published at 12:20 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 43-2 v Northants 357

Got him! It's a soft dismissal, too.

Procter bowls wide of off stump and Ryan Patel is forward, pushing the ball straight to Justin Broad at point.

Did that ball stick in the pitch a bit?

    Regardless, Surrey are in trouble.

Sai Sudharsan is in at number four for Surrey.

  12. new ball

New ball taken at Tauntonpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 357-3 v Kent

Jas Singh will try to stop the glut of runs, bowling to Lewis Goldsworthy...

His third ball is driven by Tom Kohler-Cadmore...

It's in the air and lands just short of wide long on.

Two runs scored to bring up a fourth-wicket stand of 50 in just 36 balls.

  13. Bears lead Middlesex by 194published at 12:19 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 v Warwickshire 315

Tim Murtagh (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

Tim Murtagh is applauded as he leaves the field for what could well be the last time at Lord's, holding the ball aloft after finishing with figures of 6-83.

However, it was Tom Helm who picked up the final wicket of the Warwickshire innings, with Olly Hannon-Dalby the man to go for 10 after he and Chris Rushworth had steered their side beyond 300.

Middlesex will have an awkward three or four overs to face before lunch, needing 194 to make their opponents bat again.

  14. 6 runs

Kohler-Cadmore on the chargepublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Somerset 357-3 v Kent

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Tom Kohler-Cadmore continues his assault on the Kent bowlers with his second six, driving Jack Leaning over long off.

Joe Denly is into the attack and Kohler-Cadmore is on bended knee, smashing the third ball over mid wicket and into hospitality suite for six more.

Six more off the last ball of the over with a near-identical shot.

"Tom Kohler-Cadmore on 31 in what feels like ten minutes."

  15. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcestershire 179-4 v Durham

With the players off the field because of rain, the umpires order an early lunch at New Road.

Worcestershire lost Jake Libby early for 57, but Jack Haynes and Azhar Ali added 55 for the third wicket before both departed in successive Paul Coughlin overs.

If the Pears fail to reach 400 in this innings, Durham will be confirmed as Division Two champions.

  16. wicket

WICKET Bohannon c Moores b Mullaney 6published at 12:15 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Lancs 91-3 v Notts

All of a sudden this isn't looking such a great start for Lancashire...

They've now lost three wickets for seven runs - and Nottinghamshire skipper Steven Mullaney has two of them.

Josh Bohannon pushes at one outside off stump and Tom Moores, standing up to the wicket, takes the catch neatly to secure the visitors' first bowling bonus point.

  17. Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 106-2

The latest Sam Cook over ends with James Vince steering the ball into the gap where second slip could have been and it runs away for four.

A deliberate shot by the Hampshire captain, who is 21 not out , with partner Fletcha Middleton just five short of 50.

  18. Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 42-1 v Northants 357

Tom Taylor is round the wicket to Ryan Patel - who is forward to defend.

Maiden over. A solid start for Surrey, who are getting little to hit from the Northants attack.

  19. Frustration for Northantspublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 41-1 v Northants 357

A moment of good fortune for Dom Sibley, who is forward to Tom Taylor and edging the ball through first slip for four.

A clear edge that didn't quite carry and ran away fine.

At the other end, Ryan Patel edges Luke Procter wide of third slip for four more.

    He's off the mark.

The last ball is turned away to square leg by Patel for one.

  20. wicket

WICKET Briggs c Simpson b Helm 99published at 12:07 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 v Warwicks 298-9

Danny Briggs will be kicking himself as he heads into the Long Room.

A rare hundred was there for the taking - it would have been his first ever in the County Championship. But it's not to be as he tries to hook Tom Helm and top-edges to give Middlesex wicketkeeper John Simpson a routine catch.

Middlesex have secured their third bowling bonus point, while Olly Hannon-Dalby and Chris Rushworth will need to scramble a couple more runs to take their side to 300 and a second batting point.
