    Kent v Lancashire 106-4

Josh Bohannon picks up another single to move to 52 at the interval.

But Matt Quinn's three wickets will make Kent the happier side over their lunch, after Lancashire won the toss and decided to bat.

The bowling point Kent have accrued has doubled their advantage over Middlesex to TWO points, as things stand.

  2. Postpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Hants 44-2 v Surrey

Solid opening bursts from the Surrey new ball pair.

Kemar Roach with both wickets and Dan Worrall going for only 14 in six overs.

Jordan Clark and Jamie Overton replace them. Tom Lawes also part of this superb attack.

But Overton goes too full to James Vince and gets punched down the ground for the Hants captain's first boundary.

  3. 50 runs

for Josh Bohannonpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 105-4

Division One's top run scorer delivers again.

Josh Bohannon gets a couple away off Aron Nijjar and that takes him up to 51, and his season's tally to 1127.

It's his fifth 50 of the summer. Can he go on to make his fourth century?

Middlesex will really hope he can!

  4. 100 runs

up for Lancashirepublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 103-4

Just before lunch and Kent throw the ball to India leg-spinner Yazvendra Chahal.

The leggie took five wickets in his previous Kent game, but was left out for the game at Somerset last week.

Josh Bohannon and George Balderson milk him for five runs and that sees Lancashire tick into three figures.

  5. Yorkshire to bowl firstpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Yorkshire v Worcestershire (12:40 BST)

Yorkshire have won the toss and are going to bowl first when play begins at Headingley.

Dom Bess and Matt Milnes come into their team for the two Bens, Mike and Cliff.

Yorkshire: Lyth, Bean, Masood (c), Hill, Wharton, Revis, Tattersall (wk), Bess, Thompson, Milnes, Coad.

There are two changes to the promotion-chasing Worcestershire line-up as Josh Baker and Ben Gibbon replace Adam Hose and Logan van Beek.

Worcestershire: Libby, Roderick (wk), Azhar Ali, Haynes, Kashif Ali, D'Oliveira (c), Allison, Leach, Baker, Pennington, Gibbon.

  6. wicket

WICKET Gubbins b Roach 8published at 12:13 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Hants 34-2 v Surrey

It was looking like this could be the end of Kemar Roach's opening spell.

Two half-volleys are first clipped through midwicket and then driven past extra-cover by Nick Gubbins.

But then he goes even fuller just outside off and Gubbins jams the bat down only to drag on!

Roach slumps his head in a little embarrassment but he's got a second wicket.

  7. wicket

WICKET Bell c Finch b Quinn 40published at 12:13 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 96-4

Matt Quinn wins the battle with George Bell!

Bell had struck Quinn for three fours in the bowler's previous two overs, but the bowler puts another one up for the batter to drive and this time it's nicked behind.

Experience trumps youth as Bell goes off, punching his bat. It's also a third wicket for Quinn.

A nice bonus before lunch for Kent - this is now a very good morning.

  8. Trent Bridge inspection due at 13:00 BSTpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire v Middlesex (start delayed)

As Kent enjoy a fine morning at Canterbury, Middlesex are stuck in the Trent Bridge dressing rooms.

News is that lunch will be taken at 12:30 BST, with the umpires due to inspect at 13:00 BST.

However, the outfield is wet so we will do well to start anytime soon.

  9. wicket

WICKET Albert c Sibley b Roach 11published at 12:03 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Hants 20-1 v Surrey

    Surrey have the breakthrough !

A slightly lazy hang of the bat outside off from Toby Albert to a good length ball in the channel and he nicks low to second slip.

Solid catch from Dom Sibley down by his left boot.

  10. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 82-3

Matt Quinn comes back into the attack and George Bell greets him with two imperious shots through the covers.

One off the back foot and one off the front.

Bell moves to 34 off 37 balls.

Quinn grabbed two big wickets in his opening spell, but this is his first Championship cricket since July and first match since a One-Day Cup game on 20 August, so coming back for multiple spells today will be a test of his stamina.

    Hants 20-0 v Surrey

A little bit of nip on show, as you'd expect with the new ball and a bit of moisture in the surface.

But Hampshire will be very keen this week to ensure there are no question marks about this pitch having been docked three points for a "below average" deck against Essex back in July.

This is their first home game since that ruling was handed down.

Meanwhile, Toby Albert reaches a long way out to drive Kemar Roach off a thick edge to third man for four before Fletcha Middleton flicks a straight full one from Dan Worrall to the midwicket fence.

  12. Division Two latestpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

Durham skipper Scott Borthwick has gone on the attack at Chester-le-Street, racing to 47 off 40 balls.

The champions have sped to 90-1 in just the 18th over against Leicestershire, whose own promotion hopes fade with every boundary.

Sussex have lost three quick wickets against Gloucestershire to fall to 76-3 - Matt Taylor with two of them.

Derbyshire, who like Gloucestershire are looking for their first win of the season, have started well against Glamorgan in Cardiff. They're 68-0.

Play between bottom side Yorkshire and Worcestershire, who need two points to seal promotion, will get under way at 12:40 BST.

  13. 12:40 BST start at Wantage Roadpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Northants v Essex

A slightly longer delay in Northampton with a session removed but they'll toss shortly and Essex can set about trying to pull off something extraordinary.

They'll probably need a maximum haul of 24 points to stand any chance of dethroning Surrey.

  14. 50 runs

partnershippublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 68-3

The first spin of the match at Canterbury and Josh Bohannon greets his second ball from left-armer Aron Nijjar with a lofted shot for four.

In the next over, George Bell pulls one through midwicket for two and that brings up the 50 partnership.

The two Bs, Bell and Bohannon have restored a bit of order from 18-3.

Matt: Why would Lancashire bat first to give Crawley time to come back???? It's almost like they want Middlesex to be relegated...

The fact that Kent have picked two spinners and Lancashire want Tom Hartley to come in as a second spinner alongside Jack Morley suggests both teams think this pitch will turn later, hence Jennings' call to bat first.

    That's my call anyway!

    Hampshire 6-0 v Surrey

So Surrey in the field and they can take a huge stride towards sealing the title if they can bowl well today. They need just five points to make it back-to-back County Championships.

Kemar Roach and Dan Worrall have been an irresistible new ball pairing at times this season and it's a tight start.

Hampshire could still pinch second place and a few more quid this week so still something to play for.

    Kent v Lancashire 54-3

    Close!

Nathan Gilchrist gets an edge from George Bell but it lands just in front of Jack Leaning at slip.

And as is the way so often, next ball Bell whips one past mid-on and away for four.

  18. 50 runs

up for Lancashirepublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 50-3

George Bell steers a shot deep out towards the cover fence and takes a couple.

That brings up Lancashire's 50, but Kent will be happy to have three wickets in their pockets.

Middlesex need to better Kent's points total in this round to avoid the drop, and their match against Notts is still delayed by rain.

  19. Lunch at Headingleypublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

Yorkshire v Worcestershire (play to start 12:40 BST)

The rain has relented at Headingley, but we will have no play this morning in Leeds.

There will be an early lunch at midday with play due to start at 12:40 BST, if the rain stays away.

In a revised schedule, there will be 80 overs spread over two sessions.

Zak Crawley on duty for England ODI sideImage source, Rex Features

Zak Crawley will be captaining England in the third and final ODI against Ireland in Bristol this lunchtime.

But he is down on the Kent teamsheet as their nominated player, and he would be eligible to come into the match from tomorrow, all being well.

Crawley has smashed 158 and 170 already at Canterbury this summer and another knock similar to that could ensure their Division One status.

Lancashire also hope to introduce a player from England duty tomorrow.

Left-arm spinner Tom Hartley is expected to replace Will Williams in their line-up if he makes it across from Bristol in one piece.

Wonder if Zak and Tom will share a lift?
