  1. Who have Welsh Fire retained?published at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Welsh Fire

    • Tammy Beaumont (£25k)
    • Hayley Matthews (£25k)

Welsh Fire originally decided to only retain three players, despite having the option to keep four, but Australia's Annabel Sutherland pulled out of the tournament.

That means they now only have two players and will be adding six in the draft. They now also have two overseas slot available.

And now let's take a look at who needs what in the women's competition.

Again we'll go in order of last year's standings from eighth to first, so again we'll be starting with Welsh Fire...

  3. 'Mignon du Preez gave me a yellow rose for being a super fan'published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Autumn
    Trent Rockets super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

For the men's team we're champions and we've retained most of our team. We don't need a lot. We're returning champions and the people that we’ve retained are enough to help us.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

In the men's team it's David Willey, Steven Mullaney and Tabraiz Shamsi. For the women's team I would like Sarah Glenn and Migon du Preez.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Northern Superchargers because their physiotherapist James Pipe is the cricket coach at my club.

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

I like it when the players come round and start signing our shirts. I really like watching them out there too and it’s a bonus to win.

I really liked it when Du Preez gave me a yellow rose for being a super fan.

I remember when Alana King bowled ten dot balls in a row. It was so exciting and the whole of Trent Bridge was going crazy! We saw the hat-trick as well and that was amazing. She's been retained as well which is very exciting for us.

  4. 'I want Babar Azam at Originals'published at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Redu
    Manchester Originals super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

If you look at the middle-order batting I think we lack depth. With Phil Salt and Jos Buttler we have the talent up front but we need the middle-order talent if those two get dismissed early. Hopefully we can get a middle-order batter who can bat and bowl.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

Pakistan's Babar Azam. It would be great to see Babar in a Manchester Originals shirt in the summer. I’ve been watching him in the PSL and seen how good of a player he is.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Trent Rockets because they won it and beat Originals' men's team in the final. In the women's competition it is the Oval Invincibles because they have won both tournaments so far.

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

There’s too many! But I’ll have to say when Josh Little got a five-for against the Oval Invincibles because I was there and that might have been the best games of The Hundred because it went down to the last two balls. It was such a great atmosphere at Old Trafford. I can’t wait to go back!

  5. 'Our team needs batters like Aaron Finch'published at 15:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    The Coster Boys
    London Spirit super fans

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

Lennie: I think our team needs batters like Aaron Finch because we’ve not got many batters. Without Ben McDermott and Eoin Morgan we’ll need more batters.

Ronnie: I think we would like to have Ben Duckett because he is a good batter and we know he can do well for other teams.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

Lennie: Chris Green because we’ve met him lots of times and he’s really nice.

Ronnie: My dream draft signing would be Joe Cracknell because he is a wicketkeeper too.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Lennie: Trent Rockets because they’ve got Dawid Malan, Alex Hales, Rashid Khan, Colin Munro.

Ronnie: Manchester Originals because how can you not be envious of someone who has Jos Buttler?

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

Lennie: My favourite moment was when I met Glenn Maxwell at the start of the game. He sadly got out but he came up to us afterwards.

Ronnie: When we sadly got knocked out of the eliminator but then Liam Dawson gave us his shirt and helmet.

  6. 'We need another fast bowler like Issy Wong'published at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Amelie
    Birmingham Phoenix super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

We need to strengthen our batting to get some good players to get a good total and maybe another fast bowler like Issy Wong because she is fast. I’m watching her play for Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

I would have chosen Ellyse Perry but we’ve retained her so I would like to see Sophia Dunkley because she scores run fast at the start of the innings.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Trent Rockets because my uncle supports them!

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

Will Smeed scoring 100 runs and he smashed it everywhere, the crowd went bonkers!

  7. 'A fast bowler like Shabnim Ismail would be good addition'published at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Keya
    Oval Invincibles super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

We need an aggressive all-rounder. Someone like Davina Perrin who I've played with and saw she did well in the Under-19s World Cup. A fast bowler like Shabnim Ismail would also be good addition.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Southern Brave because they have Smriti Mandhana who is really good with the bat and Lauren Bell who is really good with the ball.

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

When we won the competition two years in a row!

  8. 'We need more batting power'published at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Emily Easingwood
    Northern Superchargers super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

From last year we need more batting power to keep up with the other stronger teams. For the men’s team Ben Duckett would be a good addition, he had great stats last year. For the women I think Danni Wyatt, she has proven herself in the England squad and is experienced.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

For the women’s Kate Cross because of what she has been able to show outside of The Hundred. She’s quite experienced and will be able to guide the younger players and the team on the field.

For the men’s Babar Azam. He has come up with a high price and would be massive influence in the team.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Trent Rockets because they have Nat and Katherine Sciver-Brunt because they have done really well on an international scale. With Katherine Sciver-Brunt she is very experienced and will be able to guide the younger players on the field. She is one the best female cricketers and both of them together would be amazing.

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

I like that The Hundred is quite simple and for anyone who isn’t involved it's easy to understand. In previous years when I've gone to watch Northern Superchargers I've been able to take friends and family who are new to cricket.

  9. 'We would love to have Danni Wyatt'published at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Felix
    Southern Brave super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

On the men's team we need better batting. The fielding was good-ish but the batting wasn’t the best as we thought it could be. It would be good if James Vince managed to bat better this year.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

On the women’s we would love to have Danni Wyatt return because she is a great fielder and batter.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

Trent Rockets because they have retained very strong players this year.

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

I remember on the women's team they needed two or three runs in the final over and on the last ball they whacked it for six and I was like ‘wow!’.

  10. 'We're in the best position because we have the first pick'published at 15:24 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Harry
    Welsh Fire super fan

What does your team need in the draft, and why?

Results wise it was disappointing so we're looking forward to a new positive start for Welsh Fire. Ideally we need something in batting and bowling because our results reflected that we could've done better in both areas.

Who is your dream draft signing, and why?

We have three big contracts to give out and Babar Azam is in one of those brackets and he would be brilliant for us. I would also like to see Kieron Pollard. I watched him for a number of years in various tournaments.

For the women's team we we have some fantastic talent retained like Tammy Beaumont and Hayley Matthews. She was one of the best players of the tournament last year.

Which team are you envious of going into the draft, and why?

We're in the best position because we have the first pick and no international players signed up yet. We really enjoyed watching Birmingham Phoenix play and seeing their team of Chris Woakes, Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali. That's a pretty well stocked team.

What’s your favourite moment following your Hundred team, and why?

The games were exciting, the weather was fantastic last year and showed the stadium at it's best. All the challenges and the nets out there was great. We got to see the world's best players too and meeting them was amazing.

    Image caption,

Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored 132 runs in nine innings for Trent Rockets in 2022.

Ben Duckett is an obvious choice for a team in need of a wicketkeeping middle-order batter, and there is a good chance he will be available at the time of the Rockets' first pick.

If Duckett is picked up, the Rockets might consider going for Tom Kohler-Cadmore instead - they could also use their Right to Match card here.

Should they decide a quality seam bowler is the priority, they might consider the likes of Olly Stone or Paul van Meekeren.

  14. What do Trent Rockets need in the draft?published at 15:18 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Trent Rockets

The Rockets' priority will be either a seamer or a middle-order batter, with the latter perhaps more likely given their need for a wicketkeeper as well.

They have already filled their overseas spot so will be shopping for the best domestic talent.

The positions of their picks, with one very early and two very late, limits their strategy and much will depend on the rest of the draft as to who they can pick up.

What price brackets do they have open?

    £125,000 & £40,000 x2.

    What picks do they have?

There are going to be 30 signings in the men's draft and Rockets have the following picks: 5, 27, 29.

  15. Why have those players been retained?published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Trent Rockets

Daniel Sams celebrates taking a wicket for Trent Rockets in the 2022 HundredImage source, Getty Images
    Image caption,

Daniel Sams took seven wickets and scored 105 runs in Trent Rockets' successful campaign in 2022.

The famous saying says you don't change a winning team but Trent Rockets have had to release some players with each team only allowed to retain 10.

BBC Sport and CricViz have looked at why they might have retained three of their lesser-known players.

6.81 v 8.40 - Quick bowler Sam Cook has a Hundred economy rate of 6.81 against left-handers, compared to 8.40 against right-handers. That makes him a really effective option against left-handers.

50% - Australia's Daniel Sams was a key figure in Rockets' success last year, both with bat and ball. He generally bowls outside of the powerplay (after the opening 25 balls in The Hundred) and 50% of his deliveries outside that period are slower balls.

47% - spin in the powerplay is a feature we're seeing more and more in limited-overs cricket and Matt Carter is an effective option in that phase of the game and bowls 47% of his deliveries in that time.

  16. Who have Trent Rockets retained?published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Trent Rockets

    • Joe Root (Eng)
    • Rashid Khan (£125k)
    • Alex Hales (£100k)
    • Dawid Malan (£100k)
    • Lewis Gregory (£75k)
    • Luke Wood (£75k)
    • Colin Munro (£60k)
    • Sam Cook (£60k)
    • Samit Patel (£50k)
    • Daniel Sams (£50k)
    • Matt Carter (£30k)

The 2022 winners have retained 10 players as well and will be adding three domestic players in the draft after keeping all three overseas players.

  17. Postpublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Henry Moeran
BBC commentator at the draft in London

There’s a real buzz around the broadcast centre, and having just spoken to Southern Brave’s Tymal Mills it sounds like many teams already know the direction they’re going with their picks. That could all change - of course - if another team gets in first.

  18. Who might Manchester Originals target?published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Manchester Originals

Devon Conway plays a shot for Southern Brave in the 2021 HundredImage source, Getty Images
    Image caption,

Devon Conway scored 97 runs in four innings for Southern Brave in the 2021 Hundred.

Given the Originals do not have a pick in the £125k bracket, they will likely miss out on Ben Duckett, making them more likely to use their overseas pick on that role.

South Africa's Rilee Rossouw, West Indies' Shimron Hetmyer and New Zealand's Devon Conway are all players who could fit the bill, and they can expect at least one of them to be available at the time of their first pick.

  19. What do Manchester Originals need in the draft?published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Manchester Originals

The Originals need to strengthen their middle order, ideally with a left-hander.

Their bowling attack is pretty well-stocked, with all bowling types covered besides an off-spinner, so they could look to either find a batter who offers some off-spin, or a specialist to complete their attack.

They only have one overseas spot to fill with Wanindu Hasaranga and Josh Little occupying the other two.

What price brackets do they have open?

    £100,000 x2 & £50,000.

    What picks do they have?

There are going to be 30 signings in the men's draft and Originals have the following picks: 11, 13, 22.

  20. Why have those players been retained?published at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Manchester Originals

    Image caption,

Josh Little only joined Manchester Originals in the middle of last year's tournament but ended up taking 13 wickets in just 84 balls.

Manchester Originals' squad may consist of the least well-known names but they gelled superbly in the second half of the 2022 season to reach the final.

BBC Sport and CricViz have picked out three really important players in that run to shine a light on.

2.2m - Paul Walter, or Tall Paul as he was nicknamed, had an average release point of 2.2m in last year's Hundred, the third highest in the competition.

56% - Ireland left-arm quick Josh Little bowls 56% of his deliveries in T20 cricket shorter than 8m, meaning he likes to bowl it short and dig it into the ribs or above of the batter.

55% - Left-arm spinner Tom Hartley bowls 55% of his deliveries in the middle overs (between ball 26-74 in The Hundred) and has an economy rate of 6.80 in that phase.
