Australia have got the upper hand. They have probably got enough already to win the game.

It's interesting to hear Marnus Labuschagne talking about the awkwardness of the pitch.

We all know how much more interesting game when there is something on offer for the bowlers.

Marnus doesn't really get on top of you as an opposition but he just doesn't get out. He is such an important player.

It's hard to see India getting close unless Virat Kohli or someone plays a genius innings.

  3. 'We were quite poor this morning' - Labuschagnepublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 9 June 2023

More from Marnus Labuschagne on BBC Test Match Special: "We fought well. There is plenty in the wicket and our bowlers got plenty of reward from it to get ourselves in a good position.

"We made a bit of a meal of it in the morning but I thought our bowlers were exceptional after lunch after we addressed that we were quite poor.

"Not much needed to be said. Pat just addressed it, said we weren't good enough and we've all played enough cricket to know that was fair.

"They got straight back into their length quickly and got us back in it. With the hard new ball, there is plenty in it, more so going up and down than it is going sideways."

  4. 'We have a formidable score already'published at 18:18 British Summer Time 9 June 2023

Marnus Labuschagne, speaking to TMS: "We have quite a formidable score already but you just never know. Any of their guys in Shubman, Kohli, Pujara, they can all be tough to dismiss.

"We have got to keep crawling along with our lead and take our scoring opportunities.

"My hands are just about hanging on. I've got good bone density. It is lively out there, and that does make it challenging when they bounce like that off a length, but that happens as a batter and you've just got to find a way through it.

"We're certainly not taking this game as Ashes preparation. But it is certainly handy to have a Test of this calibre before a very big series. We've got a lot left to do in this game though, and we will come back and start well tomorrow."

Australia lost David Warner for one and Usman Khawaja for 13 but still sit in a commanding position.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith did most of the work, steering out of their position of jeopardy with a partnership of 62 before Smith got out having a wild swing.

  6. 'Funny things can happen'published at 18:13 British Summer Time 9 June 2023

India batter Ajinkya Rahane, speaking to Sky Sports: "I am OK [after being hit on the finger]. It is painful but quite manageable.

"I am happy with the way I batted. We had a good day today. We were looking to get 320 or 330 but overall we had a good day. We bowled in partnerships and that was very important.

"Australia are slightly ahead of the game. For us what is important is to think about the moment and session by session. In the morning the first hour will be very crucial. We know funny things can happen."

It took a sensational catch from Cameron Green to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane for 89. India were eventually bowled out for 296 meaning they conceded a first-innings deficit of 173.

It has been another absorbing day of Test cricket.

The first session was brilliant. India started on 151-5 and lost KS Bharat to the second ball of the day.

In difficult conditions, Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur took blows and survived scares in a defiant partnership of 109.

It's not enough yet for Australia to feel absolutely comfortable but they do look like they are destined to win this one.

    That's all folks.

Marnus Labuschagne lets the final ball go by.

    Australia are tightening their grip.

12 overs have been unbowled today. That's pretty much a whole hour.

We've lost 30 overs across three days.

Ooooft! Almost one last moment of celebration for Australia. Cameron Green inside edges close to his stumps.

We have been on a bit of Ashes watch.

And so far we've learned two things. Get Spider-Cam around Steve Smith in the field, and get everyone in the crowd wearing red when he bats.

  16. Aus 121-4published at 43 overs

    Labuschagne 40, Green 6

I tend to agree with Finny. We're going to have one more over today.

I think Australia have enough runs already.

Especially with their bowlers, and how we've seen the pitch behave.

  18. Aus 120-4published at 42 overs

    Lead by 293

There are 14 overs remaining in the day. We're not going to get them. They'll be off in six minutes.

I'd be bringing in five-run run penalties for every over not bowled.

Four runs come from Umesh Yadav's comeback over. They should have stuck with Jadeja.

I am very surprised to see Jadeja taken out of the attack.
